We visited this bar to watch RuPauls Drag Race. The crowd was not very welcoming (a bunch of pretentious ppl tbh). We ordered food and it was good, it arrived sooner than expected. The staff was attentive and polite but it was almost impossible to watch the show. There were not enough speakers or the volume was too low. The only place where you could actually listen was on the section on the right with a big screen
A comfortable, welcoming space! We visited Seattle from DC and stopped by Union twice -- once on Sunday night (also St Patricks Day), which had a busy end of Sunday Funday vibe, and then early Monday evening, which had a much more relaxed happy hour crowd. The space is large and accommodating, with a mix of indoor and outdoor tables. It can be whatever you need it to be -- you can hang by the bar and meet new people or grab a table for some private conversation. The bartenders were incredibly sweet and make great cocktails.
Glad Union has reopened. The new location has a great vibe, with plenty of open space and socially distant tables.Service was a little slow initially, but it looks like they have more staff now and it’s much better. The food is great! I’ve had several meals from their menu and was surprised by all of them, especially the breakfast burger on the Sunday Brunch menu. The spot is great for happy hour, a night out with friends or Sunday brunch.
Although we understand, I am a 68-year-old man who got pickpocketed earlier so I did not have any ID on me. I was visiting from DC so I did not realize that I needed one. I do have a copy of my passport and my drivers license on my iPhone, to see if any exception could be made. It was obvious that I am of age and know that if for some horrible reason, the police raided the place, those would both be acceptable. A shame you lost our business.
My boyfriend and I visited from New York on a Saturday afternoon. We had a great time getting a few drinks.Crowd seemed nice enough.Drinks were pretty good, for Seattle.Didnt get to check out a dance party or a RDR watch party - cant wait for next time.
Was visiting from Tulsa when I recently had an unfortunate experience at Union, a gay bar in Seattle, and I feel compelled to share my disappointment, particularly regarding the conduct of the owner/manager, whose attitude tarnished the entire visit. From the outset, it was evident that the atmosphere was affected by an unwelcoming energy. Could have just been the night I thought as I fully understand that the service industry can be hard. But I noticed several points of friction with a few patrons that were uncalled for. I witnessed an attitude that was consistently mean and unapproachable, creating an uncomfortable environment for my group. It was disheartening to witness such lackluster customer service, especially in a place that should embody inclusivity and warmth. The negative encounter with management overshadowed any positive aspects of the bar (my server and bar tender were great). Its truly disconcerting when the management team fails to uphold the principles of hospitality and inclusiveness, which are vital for any LGBTQ+ venue. I hope the management takes steps to address these issues, as a welcoming and respectful environment should be a priority for any establishment in the LGBTQ+ community.
The seven of us ladies, absolutely loved everything (food, service & atmosphere). I came to their original opening 2018 (former location) for Pride - nothing but great memories. The review citing water is lying - every bar on the hill & Union has self serve water. They are not required to be water maids. All of us are foodies & thought the bar food was good, hot & tasty. Most likely the person saying they got food poisoning out of the hundreds they served, that one couple got acohol poisoning from drinking too much. Happens to the best/worst humans. Bravo to Union! Best energy ever! Thank you!
Just came here for the first time since I moved to Capitol Hill . Great service and good environment . Loved the menu and strong drinks. Regret not getting our servers names ( wearing pink shorts and studded hat ? ) but he was so kind . Will be back again ! THANKS 🖤 also CLEAN BATHROOMS ( rare on the hill )
Given the other Cap Hill options, Union feels like the most inclusive gay bar that’s just not catering to one gay stereotype (diesel, pony, queer bar, eagle). They have a great indoor and outdoor fire, friendly staff and good drinks. Unfortunately on several visits the bar area has wreaked of vomit.
Union hasnt been open for too long, and I went with some friends to check it out. Im digging the place. There is a nice outdoor patio space, not big but adequate for seating maybe 5 or 6 groups of 4 or so. Theres another room with a lot of windows/natural light and tables with a fire place and couches around. That room had more of a restaurant feel than a bar. Then there was the big room with the actual bar. Long with the bar in the middle of the room and seating around it. Additional seating on one end, mostly stools and counters.Drinks are reasonable, decent pours on well drinks for $7. Food menu seemed good, also not badly priced.I think the service was good but lacking in some areas - the table service server needed some prompting to come to us as he glossed over us a few times. But it ended up being fine.We came on a Thursday afternoon and it wasnt crowded or quiet - a happy medium. Definitely a good overall feel to it from the crowd and atmosphere. Looking forward to seeing how this places evolves over time. If the prices on food and drinks dont start going up, this could be a fun new regular place to go to.
Felt very “white twinks only”. Couldn’t serve a basic hurricane but said they could do anything. Plus staff IGNORED us after we ordered and didn’t want anything to do with us (gay man & trans fem person).Don’t waste your time, go to a better club like the ‘cuff complex’ or ‘queer/bar’.
I wrote this review when they have a 3.8 stars? LMAO ***k no! Theyre FIVE (5) stars! Never a dull night. Absolutely amazing! Always great to attend with NEVER HAVING COVER, and it is SO easy to work with their Manager Greg
Great bar! Beautifully designed with a great patio. The staff are always friendly and can make a good drink quickly. The food is also fantastic (the club sandwich is my favorite).
Im originally from the Buffalo NY area and Im telling you, Union just might have the best Buffalo wings in town. The service was great, the vibes were chill and welcoming. I think I will be frequenting this spot much more in the future. Cheers!
The bar itself is great and does everything it is supposed to do, but I really dislike the atmosphere it brings about. If you want to experience the Seattle freeze, go to Union and try to interact with any of the customers on a weekend, and you’ll get such fakeness UNLESS you’re really pretty. it’s like Grindr in real life. I didn’t want to give the bar less than a 5 stars because in all honestly, the food is delicious, there’s great service and never a cover, but your customers suck. I’m not sure how you can fix this, but I hope this is helpful. Union Bar is known in the gay community as being a shallow place for all the pretty gays only, and it’s a shame.
Amazing burger and super friendly staff 😊 will be back again!
We were visiting for the weekend and had no where to go on Capitol Hill @3:30PM on NYE. This was the only place opened. It was the best decision we made. The bartender/server that greeted us was so warm, bubbly and inviting. Way better than all the other bars/clubs on Capitol Hill.
Great food, drinks and & Safe bar to go during this pandemicUnion is one of my favorite bars to go in Seattle. They always provide excellent service. They serve nice strong drinks, the food is also great, and they bring it pretty quickly! Since the bars started to open on Phase 2, they make sure to follow CDC and Government guidelines. They will welcome you at the entrance and let you know the rules, make sure you follow them because they are very strict! I really appreciate that. They make sure each table is at least 6 feet apart and after a group leaves they clean and sanitize the area. I really enjoy going there. I feel very safe when going there. THANKS!
Great Drinks!Great Staff!Great Atmosphere!I really like the new space and think its a prime location. The server was very attentive and fast. Everyone in the establishment looked like they were having an awesome time. Good job Union I will be back!!!Made My Night Extra Special!See you soon!
Unique gem discovered in Capital Hill. Feels more like being welcomed into a friends home and relaxing outdoor patio. Excellent place to unwind, have top notch drinks and connect with others. Very welcoming. Staff was attentive and friendly. Enjoy finding a place like this nestled in the neighborhood where you get the personal touch of the owner mingling with patrons. Must return indeed.
Came here with my wife to start off Pride and meet our friends. Had food and 2 drinks each. Ended up with food poisoning and had to go home early. We are really frustrated and unhappy with the experience 😢🤕.
Nice to have this bar back! Staff is attentive and super friendly! Even in these pandemic awful times, if you simply follow the INCREDIBLY EASY RULES you are sure to have a great evening. And special shout out to Shaun for always being the best host/bartender/manager/everything guy!
A cosmopolitan feel with a Cheers like atmosphere, this bar does an excellent job at creating an accessible, inclusive space for the entire LGBTQIA+ Community. Not to mention their food and service is SURPRISINGLY high-quality for a bar. 5/5 recommend.
This is the gay bar I’ve been hoping for! First and foremost (the most important thing about a gay bar).....YES, they make strong, cheap, gay size drinks! $7 gets you a well (Pearl Vodka) drink in a sizable glass. If I had one negative about this bar though, depending on your bartender, you will get a stronger/weaker pour. Wish they were more consistent. Anyway, second most important, is the crowd! This place has a great mix!! It is a nonpretentious crowd with plenty of hotties across the board. Finally, the bar. It’s great!! The service is quick and friendly (avoid the first station for a quicker drink, there are stations to the left and around back) and the space is incredible! The outdoor patio is awesome!! It’s beautiful and where I always gravitate to when it’s warm out. There is also a “sun room” or what they call a “fireplace lounge” with big comfy chairs, the main bar, and a side room with old wood charm and a tasteful lighting fixture. I will admit I haven’t tried the food yet, and heard the kitchen was drama because of their chef who was difficult (could just be a grape vine rumor.) Overall though, I am really thankful this bar exists in Seattle and has, well, strong cheap drinks in a great space! Looking forward to many fun nights here.
I had high hopes for this place given the charm and upscale space that was Zoe, but I was so wrong. It was very crowded so good for them but once the newness wears off are people going to still visit given there are 3 other gay bars so close? The patio had tables smashed together making it difficult to navigate, the inside was no easier, it was so dirty (at 7 pm) and the bartender was comically slow and petulant. The waiter roaming the place walked by us 6 or 7 times. When he finally stopped to ask us if we wanted anything, we were ready to get the hell out. No thanks!
This is a great concept bar, but currently poorly executed. My boyfriend and I had a great time during their soft opening. Once again you expect little since it’s a soft opening. Enjoyed the patio and the bar. The bartenders were attentive and did a great job. They should lose the fire fit, it takes up too much room on the patio. And it was great to see some old friends.Decided to go back tonight for date night and try out their menu. First off, no AC in the dinning room (lounge). We asked for them to turn on the 1 fan. It took way too long to get our rounds of drinks and food. No fault to the server. He was covering both the dinning room and the patio. He should cover the dinning room and the patio should be served by the bar. And my HH cocktail was $7 and my second cocktail was $12. Sorry Union I stopped going to Purr because of these prices. All I would say, is compare the pricing and value of the other gay bars near you. The menu looks great and was promising. All of our food arrived over cooked and really late. My $14 burger was well done. And it wasn’t worth the time to send it back. Especially when on Saturday my friend ordered a Caesar’s salad and got attitude from the cook when he asked for more dressing.I hope they work out the kinks, it has potential. But with other offerings within blocks I think there are better places that provide a better value for your dollar.$14 burger, not worth it. Go to 8oz or Diesel.$12 cocktail, not worth it. Go to Madison Pub or Diesel.FYI, I first tried their website and I was going to email them privately and directly, but no posted email addresses, so.....Leif
Really love the atmosphere here. They serve food and I appreciate how they have a small fireplace outside that also has an awning for Seattle rainy days. :-P They also have another fireplace inside where they have seating with tables if you want to order food and a more intimate setting with a couple of couches to sit on. The only thing I feel is missing would be another section for dancing.
Nice strong drinks - love a gay bar
The security guard tonight was horrible you could tell that she really did not like her job and did not like the gays. Hopefully they can replace her with someone that is open minded and respect the community that they are working for.
Generally a fun place to hangout with friends. Decently priced drinks. Wells are only $7-$8 and their well vodka is Pearl. Their food is surprisingly good for bar food. Friends had salads and I had the club sandwich. We all liked our food.
Its great to have a new bar in town, esp. a bit off the corridor. The interior and patios are simple but nicely done. Very open and light - a nice change from most bars. However, weve been (and left) twice because of the ridiculously long wait trying to get a drink. A week ago, the line extended from the bar to the gate. A group of four people gave up and left. We followed.Growing pains and the learning curve are par for any new business. However, understaffing for the bar and restaurant yields only lost customers and poor reviews. If youre going to charge higher prices for food and drinks than other bars, then the attitudes, service, speed, and quality must also be higher.Right now, Union is a novelty, not a necessity on the hill. Id love to see this new bar develop into the finest one in Seattle. To do that, the owners need to increase the staff significantly and train everyone in terms of efficiency and courtesy.
I had high hopes. A new bar with the looks of a place that everyone in the LGBTQIA spectrum could hang out, meet up, enjoy a cocktail. I went to a happy hour comprised mostly of queer women and some trans men on a Wednesday afternoon. While the staff seemed welcoming enough, the owners weeks later told us that they no longer wanted us to have happy hours there because our presence offended their regulars. Im a little shocked that someone owning a business would be so willing to show such blatant discrimination against their non-cis male patronages.... but seeing as Im in Seattle (and not in small town America), I think Ill happily take my dollar bills somewhere else. Its really sad to think that even in the heart of Capitol Hill in Seattle, discrimination is REAL.
After a group of queer women gathered here for a social happy hour/meetup, the owner declined to host monthly events because regulars (read:men) were rattled by their presence in the bar. Spend your money at a bar where ALL queer people are made to feel welcome. Discrimination, in any form, is not what our community should be about.
Ive been to Union several times and always had a great time. It can be noisy but its a busy bar with lots of people in it. Met some cool characters and some fun people as well. I really enjoyed myself. Thanks!!!
Over priced drinks with meh food. The remix 2000s dance beats get old fast. Has potential just needs to stop living like its 2010.
Terrible experience. No matter how many times you try to remove my review of your business it will not remove the discrimination you have not apologized for.I will never spend a dollar in a Gay bar that discriminates against the rest of the LGBTQ community. The owner recently asked a group of Womxn not to come back because their regular customers were rattled up by their presence.Discrimination has no place in our community.
I really enjoy this bar. Its a great place to just come, have a drink with friends and relax. The decor is nice and its comfortable. Plus, i can come here without a bunch of wasted people screaming whoooooooo and being obnoxious wink.
Great place. One bartender hates his job tho. You can tell and feel it. Looking forward to going back.
The bartenders are not trained to take foreign ID. My ID was accepted before a couple times, but this time they said they dont accept my foreign passport.
It is a shame we couldn’t get it because we didn’t have our passports and only our European official IDs. They didn’t understand the special situation of being a tourist in Seattle they were such non-inclusive people (we didn’t even look like we are under 35 to be that strict on us)
We have been a few times, various days. Good vibe, variety of music, indoor and variety of outdoor spaces. Good mix of people. Fiendly bartenders. Becoming one of our neighborhood faves.
Cut enough people off because your bartenders dont like pay attention but to themselves! They only like cute guys at their bar!!!
My favorite bar in Seattle
Pleasant space with decent food and drinks, and friendly wait staff. A lot of runners the night I went, and a typical young-ish crowd.
This is one great bar! The people that hang out are diverse, the servers are friendly, food is very good! Love it!
Really amazing spot with amazing staff! The food is also really amazing! I cant wait until after Covid to really enjoy the space. Thanks Union for an amazing time as always.
The server was rude. It took an hour to get a burger and when I inquired there was a poor excuse. To add insult to injury my $14 (over priced) burger was way over cooked and quite terrible.
Great new Seattle space, beautifully laid out, will easily makes a great addition to the neighborhood. Look forward to many more visits here!
Great vibe, great drinks, great service. They have outdoor and indoor seating at this new location.
I liked it.Potentially could become a great after brunch party place like Lookout in SF 🤞
This spot (especially their new space) is fantastic! It’s inviting and friendly and the staff is always so helpful.
Really fun watching football and hanging w friends here. Great space, fun crowd.
Really sad that owners told a group of LGBTQ womxn including my friend that they were not welcome here. Really?? in a time like this?????
Had a great time here. The staff was very friendly
Good place to hang out and excellent customer service. Highly recommend, would go back.
Friendly, spacious, and overall nice bar to be in and look at.
Dont bother sitting at the bar because the bartenders dont pay attention to anyone that isnt standing at their station.
Service was really bad. We waited for our food for an hour. We finally just left.
Go see Chris the bartender, he is the best!
Steven made my experience great!
One of my fav in Seattle !
Fantastic time always!
Bored people, bored music…
This place rocks!!
This I a best place
