Albany Sauna is awesome. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. I was able to make a reservation for a hot tub and sauna via text. And it was super easy. The private hot tub had a retractable roof so you could soak under the sun/sky/stars! And the Finnish Sauna was definitely an experience. Definitely listen to the instructions because it’s HOT! But again, a really unique experience. I loved it. They also have so many awesome local and well known products for sale in the retail part of the space. Thank you for a great and relaxing time!!
Taking a sauna today was like visiting an old friend who would put on a new suit. I have not been there in years and the establishment to be cleaned up a bit even providing conditioner and shampoo. Yes, it’s gotten a little more expensive, but they do give you a discount if you bring your own towel. Great way to spend some time and refresh in spa light conditions without breaking the bank.
I was in town from the east coast for a wedding and stopped here for an hour long sauna in the afternoon before my red-eye home. This place is really great, a nice balance between a dry sauna and a Finnish steam bath. It gets pretty darn hot - perhaps not as hot as a Swedish dry sauna, but certainly hotter than the Finnish steam bath I go to back home. They provide the towels you need and some nice bath products. The private changing room is spacious and even has a fan to help cool down during those essential breaks. The sauna also has a private shower. A fun, relaxing, low-key sauna that I really enjoyed. I was able to make a reservation by WhatsApp text and easily found parking nearby.
Lovely place. Staff is helpful and friendly. The hot tub rooms are spacious and full of natural light and fresh air (shade overhead). Most massage rooms are also open to the air outside, but even the ones that aren’t open air have a great spacious feeling. Hard to describe how wonderful it is. My current go-to is a 90-minute massage by Regina preceded by a soak in a hot tub. They provide a robe and slippers for the transition from the hot tub to the massage, too.If you prefer to book appointments online, note that there is no online scheduling on the website, but they do respond to email and text. They then call you to get your credit card number to prepay, which makes sense to me.
THE HOT TUBS ARE BACK!Beautiful, ceramic tile lined hot tubs with Jets and swirlers and bells and whistles in large rooms in which you can look up at the sky or use their shade covering which is operated by a hand crank. I forgot how good it was to have a local hot tub!Note: The massage staff is particularly great here, and you can ask for a particular kinds of massage and work with them to get what you need like I did today. Excellent! This place has become my absolute go-to in terms of health, sanity and relaxation. I am almost reluctant to let my friends know about it, because up to now its been my little secret, but stuff like this deserves to be shared, and with the latest upgrades to the place, and the amazingly curated selection of sauna gear (Buckets, scrubbers, etc.) and one of the best soap collections in northern California, overwhelmingly locally-made, and sold, with a great book selection, (youd be surprised how many books there are on saunas and the culture around them) the essential oils, natural scents, and restoratives, make this place more than just a sauna (which would be fine all by itself), and take into full sensory experience territory, and is something I think everyone should try at least once. Finally, there is on staff, a rotating cadre of some of the best message artists and physical therapists, on the West Coast, including everything from Shiatsu, to Swedish deep tissue. When you need a real time out, and just want the world to stop for a second, for the price of a lunch, (1/2 an hour in sauna or tub) you can slip and feint stress like a pro, in a single visit to this place.Happy hot tubs!
Had a great visit to this sauna and hot tub! So many nice touches like an overhead hot waterfall in the hot tub, cold spout in the steam sauna, scented towels, and complimentary bathrobes, slippers, and a Aveda toiletries to use. I really loved how the hot tub space had no ceiling and allowed the sun to stream in. Cost was $110 for two people to use the hot tub and sauna a half hour each, plus 15 minutes for showering. The only thing I wanted was an ability to play music, but that could be a difficult feature with all the water and heat.
Ive visited many times in the past few months. Yesterday I had an AMAZING deep tissue massage with Bianca!!!! She is a true healer & I am grateful for her talent.
I used to like coming here. They did give us our money back.On 2/27/24, I went here with my husband, who is Black, btw - when things like this happen is hard not to wonder if the people have preconceived notions - and half way through our tub time he noticed some brown stuff on my shoulder. It was gross. We got out. We tried washing it off but it was really stuck to my skin. We had to wash it briskly, 3 times before it came off. It was greasy and sludgey and sticky. In addition to that, the woman running the facility at the time was rude all the way through. Its probably because she needs more love and acknowledgement in her life, but she acted like the roof was on fire and every task was monumental when we made the appointment. When we came out a little early complaining, she shouted I just had that tub drained and refilled this morning! Which felt like she was trying to blame us for the sludge. We are clean people. This was not the issue. I made it clear that she should refund me and she did but said I see you decided to stay for the whole tub anyway! While she refunded us. We had come out early, btw, not that this matters. Also, we didnt realize it until 30 mins into the tub, and it took 10 min to wash it off of me.I work at a high end Spa. What you say if you dont want a bad review is OH my God! Im an so sorry! Youre right, that is disgusting! Im so sorry! Im not sure how that mess got by us, Im have it taken care of right away! Here is your money back and here is a gift certificate for a free tub. Sorry!Nothing like this happened.Sadly, I will never go back. For pics, look for my yelp review.
Everyone working here is so sweet. A really comfy place. So glad I found this gem!Had a wonderful facial by Angel and could really see the difference in my skin afterwards. Regina has a very healing touch for massage. All the staff were lovely. And the steam room was proper hot! Fun experience over all.
Perfect for couple’s getaway! The hot tub is very clean and nice. It even has a waterfall, which is a rare find in the U.S. The staff is extremely accommodating and nice too.
I’ve only been for the hot tubs, and 5 stars across the board for those! But I can’t speak to any of the other services, I’d love to try them one day
My friend and I visited this gem for the first time, and we were already planning our next visit! We both enjoyed the sauna and hot tub. You have control of adding more steam to the sauna room if youd prefer to sweat and bake a little bit more. The hot tub was spacious for the two of us. We especially loved that it was an outdoor private hot tub with powerful jets. The midday soak in the hot tub was just what we needed to feel like we were in a land far away. Would absolutely recommend this spot to everyone!
I had a facial with Angel and absolutely 10/10!! As a trans person, it felt amazing to be treated and cared by another queer person, and Angels attention to detail and demeanor made it just that safe and luxurious. Highly recommend to anyone, and especially any queer person who wants to pamper themselves in a safe space!
The best home town sauna around. Friendly welcoming staff and super hot steam saunas. Highly recommend a 1/2 hot tub followed by 1/2 sauna.
Great care providers and a well put together retail area in the lobby. Clean, calm, with lots of service options for a smaller establishment (tubs, massage, sauna, shower, etc.). Miss the rustic wooden barrel hot tubs but the updates are well done and the private spaces with open air are always a lovely vibe.
I’ve had a dozen or so facials in my life but Angel has been the only person I keep coming back to! I’m on my fourth months of treatment with her and she helped me build a sustainable skin care regiment. The difference over the last 4 sessions I’ve had with her is insane!!! My redness and mild acne issues have melted away. I can’t recommend her enough, I usually opt for the deluxe version and truly can’t get enough of her touch! GET A FACIAL HERE TRUST ME.
I had a facial with Angel last weekend & it was the best experience. She was so caring & knowledgeable. The facial was relaxing and effective!! I will be back thanks to her service.
This review is for Angel, the esthetician. I have never gotten a better facial in my life, she’s knowledgable, her touch is so healing and she’s incredibly kind. The most sacred and non judgmental space I’ve ever been in. Her hands are magic. And she knows how to help your skin. I know what she recommends to me is in my best interest and that’s all. Honestly she’s such a blessing and I won’t go anywhere else.
Nice spot, good clean tubs! Will definitely be back sometime to try the saunas. A little more expensive then other spots, but cant really complain, youre in a hot tub!
Just got a facial from Angel at Albany sauna and it was hands down one of the best facials I’ve received and I get facials monthly. I just returned from a river trip and my skin was so congested and dry to the point of almost peeling. I love the way she really got in there and cleared out my pores. I feel like most facials kind of skimp on the extractions which can be annoying because that really why I’m there… please get all the dirt out that I can’t see! I could tell Angel thoroughly extracting all the areas I can’t get to like sideburn area and under the chin. Usually after extractions like that there will be residual redness but she was so methodical with the cold rollers and warm compresses there was all glow and no redness at the end of the facial. Also my face went from flakey and peeling to bursting with moisture. Angel will be my go to facial tech in the East bay. Plus the chance to do a 30 min steam before the facial is heavenly. Highly recommended!
I wanted to love this place but unfortunately after using the private hot tub & waterfall, I woke up the next morning with an extremely painful and large stye in my left eye. Giving 2 stars because the cleanlinesss of the water and overall facilities concerns me. However, the person who booked us in was quite nice and helpful. Plus, they check for your vaccination status and I appreciated that.
Albany Sauna is terrific. The outdoor private hot tubs are good sized, very clean and perfect temperature. There is a shower in the room for rinsing off and Aveda products for both body and hair. Staff is friendly. I like that they give an option for renting a tub for 30 min. will be returning soon!
Very clean. Professional and detail oriented staff. Must have some record of vaccination. Don’t forget to choose an indoor or outdoor hot tub as desired. It may be a cold day!
My partner and I came here for his birthday and enjoyed a private hot tub under the sun in a private room with waterfall spout and shower/changing room. We then each had our own private massage and I felt like my therapist did a good job in getting into some very tight muscles.
This wonderful sauna has been around for decades. One can get a massage under the sky or indoors. Facials are available, too. Lots of quality skincare products, art, books, and jewelry on offer. Hot and cold beverages, as well as sweets, are available. Charming and helpful staff.
I just wanted to add my two cents. I went for a tour today and was in complete awe of the history of this place. Freddy, the new owner(and daughter of the previous owner) was kind enough to show me around. I dont think people realize that of every bath house in the Bay Area, this is the only one that offers private sauna rooms that all pull from the same fire/stones. There is essentially a giant furnace in the center of the building. The rooms are engineered around the brick furnace. You and your friends get complete privacy with a closed door to moderate the steam experience to your liking, while not having to listen to strangers who struggle to tolerate the heat. If youve ever shared a sauna with someone you know theres always a groaner. Apparently, this sauna is the last of its kind. Several were made like this in the past, but none survived into the 21st century, accept this one. And the updates for the two private hot tub rooms are elegant and intelligently designed. Made with an entirely open roof you can look up at the blue sky or feel the rain on your skin. Both rooms have hydro therapy pipes that run over the center of the pool so you can have your shoulders massaged by running water. Its just insanely wonderful in this place and I cant believe Ive slept on it after living in the Bay for 13 years. I will be telling all my friends to book here when they need to really unwind. Lastly, if you book a massage here and are still nervous about covid they do all their massages in open air spaces. Meaning if its not done outside the room has a skylight to let fresh air flow into the room.
What a jewel of a place. Love it here. I’ve finally tried the new hot tub and it was magical. Its private, chlorine doesnt smell too strong (I have sensitive nostrils), the roof is open with an awning if the sun gets too intense. Check out the pictures. I truly love this special place. I come out of there floating but grounded, so peaceful and glad Im alive too experience the warm, care of this place with each person that makes this happen that work here. Thank you, Everyone! ✨️ 💛💫I feel like its a home away from home here. Freddys warm, generous and kind. Loving the updates with the rooms to change in before and after the sauna. The robe (and sometimes slippers) is a very nice touch along with the more plush mat. The addition of the citrus aromatherapy is great on the face towel but my favorite is still probably their lavender. Regina is intuitive and is a wonderful masseuse. The front desk has many different products, from bar soaps, CBD balms, Japanese or arnica bath salts to purses.
Very nice and clean . Very peaceful and worth the $. staff was very sweet and allowed me to reschedule my appointment because I got sick. Would definitely go back.
I decided to call on my lunch break to see if they had any time available for after work. It was a miracle…but they did!I was in hot tub 6. I had it all to myself, but it could fit 4 average, two large size people comfortably. I say this because there is no way 4 of me could fit into the tub!! The water was hot, chlorinated, and I could turn the jets on and off! With the personal shower and soap in my hot tub area I bathed before my soak and after. This helped get the chlorine small off my skin. The staff had the right mix of attentiveness and leave me alone! Just perfect. I will be returning!
Very professional operation. The remodel has done wonders for the quality of the hot tubs and ither spaces. A truly relaxing and clean environment for a quick spa experience (without ridiculous costs).
This is an gem of a sauna. It take some getting used to working the steam system but is very steam punk and unique. You get quite a private area. Very professional staff, I also had a great massage there. I recommend to all my friends.
Great place to relax get a sauna and massage. Steve is the person who works front end. He is always professional on the phone and in person. I have been coming here for years place is clean and cozy. I have my own personal person I like to get my massage from. Her name is Ava she is amazing she on medical leave from a bad accident. So now I get to try someone new. My family also come here and they love to have Eve!
Staff and cleanliness are perfection. Went in for the hot tubs which are now fully renovated. Dont be shy to try it out for the first time. Private shower and changing room avalible in every hot tub room.
Weve been here a couple times, and have always had a fine time. The prices are reasonable. We prefer this to Berkeley Sauna on Acton and The Hot TubsThe Sauna is an old (est. 1934) Finish-style spa, with open-air, wooden hot-tubs and strong jets. The tubs have a special jet which sprays down from the ceiling-- this provides a spectacular massage. Not to hard, not too soft. The facilities are a little run down, but still quite enjoyable. The staff arent spectacular, but they are friendly. Unlike the other reviewers, weve never had a bad incident with the staff.
There are multiple smaller sauna rooms served from a single large stove which is interesting - I was worried going in late in a Saturday that the shared stones would be cold, but there was still a lot of heat in them. The steam is great, its soft and long rather than sharp and short from an electric stove.
My new happy place, everything is spot on from first touch to service, on to facilities. Jasmine was my excellent therapist & front desk run by Tenzin was great to explore the local (and European like Claudalie) products. Will be back asap.
Great hot saunas, excellent massage therapists, local products for sale. A nice local spot. Im bias, Ive worked as a massage therapist on and off since 1996! I always seem to come back home where ever I go. New hot tubs should be finished very soon. Come see the new retail products and get a sauna, its great for the mind and body!
Located one block from downtown Albany, this place offers steam saunas (which are harder to find). Its clean, the prices are reasonable (around $20 for half hour sauna. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hot tubs are under renovation so not currently available. The facility is older but well-kept. Recommended, give it a try
Amazing place to restore rapidly. The steam is so powerful. I highly recommend especially when you need a quick reboot. The staff is also really amazing and you get to choose your own essential oil. Big fan!
Had three massages in the last 3 months, and my wife 1. All of them have been excellent (both by women). Theyre slowly moving toward opening up fully. The massage is outside in the courtyard, which is refreshing, and they take covid protocols seriously.Everyone locally should be going to places like these to make sure they remain open during the pandemic, and beyond. Cant afford to lose them.
I have been an occasional user of their hot tubs for over 20 years and the service has been reliable and simple. Neither a high-end spa, not a dark dive, the Albany Sauna and Hot Tubs has always been a clean, honest soak for my body and mind. Its the neighborhood tub to visit before heading up the Avenue to the theatre or to get a bite to eat.
I miss the old redwood tubs but like the new tubs too. The chlorine is a little strong but that is probably required by the health department too.
Was able to visit before the pandemic hit. Clean and extremely relaxing. Tried the hour steam for $45. Definitely worth the visit to help detox and sooth muscles. Convenient location, easy to find, nice and clean was a huge plus.
Ive been to this place once, the service was not great - hardly anyone to answer questions when we were there and half way through our hot tub time , the hot water ran out. Called to book a second time as we got a gift card , a nice woman picked up but she didnt know what to do so she handed us over to a very rude man, whom came on very confrontational - typical questions like pricing and available booking slots were thrown back to us as though we were inconveniencing him. Definitely not worth using our gift card when the annoyance is this high. Sad thing is we live just around the corner and would love to support the business.
Love it here. Super friendly staffs. The facility is cleaned. Spacious outdoor baths and lovely Swedish style sauna. Def revisit soon.
Such a hidden gem in the East Bay. Amazing private outdoor hot tubs. Perfect for a restorative moment to unwind.
We had a really nice experience until I asked for a glass of water and was told I need to purchase the water in a plastic bottle. Not only is this environmentally unfriendly but also I think its outrageous that after spending 48 bucks for 45 minutes they cant even provide water for their customers.
CUSTOMERS NOT TREATED WITH RESPECT BY THE OWNER!!!! The owner of Albany spa needs to work on his customer service. Hes an incredibly angry man and does not show respect to his customers.I paid for a one-hour hot tub session. When I was escorted back to the spa area I was never given any direction on how to use the facilities, but only told how to turn the spa jets on and off. During my hour session I used the overhead water spout to massage my neck and back. It was quite relaxing and my experience during that hour was great... That is until I left. On my way out the owner stopped me. He proceeded to publicly lectured me on how I was using the facilities wrong, and that I was not suppose to use the overhead spout for that long of a time. He was very demeaning and I was incredibly embarrassed. He scolded me like I was a child.Absolutely no signs are posted anywhere in the facility that direct you on how long or how much to used the spa jets and spouts... yet he expects me to know that I was using the facility inappropriately. The owner then told me to scram and never come back again. Well... good news, I WILL NEVER COME BACK AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE. The owner needs to learn some manners and respect for his customers. If he wants his patrons to use his facilities in a certain way... make it clear to them from the beginning with posted directions on how he would like them to use it. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
Dear Steve,Please learn some phone skills. Please learn how to talk to your customers with dignity and respect. If it’s difficult for you to share information about your establishment on the phone, perhaps you should give the phone to someone who has better customer service skills. I will no longer be a faithful customer because you are such a jerk!
Jasmine the massus was extraordinary.Great place to decompress and get you right for the upcoming work week. Thanks again.
Was great as soon as I walked in. Quiet, welcoming place. Great sauna and explanations on how to use it. Private sauna, great massage. Beautiful place. Sweet and not pretentious. Down home.
I had a guy named Steven (or Stephen) and the massage was amazing. He knew what my muscles, from the recent return to the gym, needed. Already looking forward to my next massage.
Simple, clean, lovely. Very helpful staff who were kind to a newbie who didnt know what was going on.
I have been going to Albany Saunas for about 23 years and Ive always love the place. The cleanliness, friendly staff and all around great service. Strongly recommend it!
An oasis. I love locking myself into a private room and steaming away for an hour! A affordable place to regularly rest and restore.
Ava was recommended and Im so happy I was treated by a friend to her talented hands. Enjoyed a 30 steam first. Awesome Ava!
If you want pamper yourself this is the right place for relax one hour sauna totally a good option. Place is clean and warm.
Massage was fantastic and the hot tubs are great especially if its raining since theyre outdoor
Im from Finland and have been in hundreds of saunas. Albany Sauna is the real deal, the real Finnish sauna experience. Love it.
Great service. Tubs not the same as the big wooden ones, but very clean and nice.
A homey and comfortable place. Not too fancy but clean and well kept. Love the artwork and vintage European travel posters.
Great facility, store and kind people who operate. I like the saunas here. Nice and HOT!
Suana, massage and hot tub, all natural everthing! A must go! Massage therapist are Amazing come in and walk out feeling like a new person! Love it
This is the best place for massage and steam room. The hot tubs have a unique heavy duty shower feature that Ive always loved.
Under new management by daughter of owner. Brand new hot tubs with experienced and friendly staff.
Always an incredible experience
I look them up online but when I went to call to make a reservation it said that their phone number was disconnected i was unable to find another
Funky set up. Good service. Hit the spot but not sure I’ll go back.
