First time going to a Jass club, so I figured I would go to one of the best! We were able to get a table and share a couple of drinks watching Lady D and the band. It was a wonderful experience and a great performance. We truly enjoyed it. I would go back anytime. I met a couple of locals and had a blast! Highly recommend coming her for a show!
First time visiting The Blue Room for a show. This happened to be the 5 oclock Friday night free jazz show. It was a real treat seeing (hearing) Lady D and her band! Great ambience, a wonderful mix of people in a really welcoming space. Had previously visited the museum, a dont miss! and was just as thrilled with this experience. Highly recommend!
Small intimate space, went to hear Lady D and her band play smooth jazz. She was great, as was her band. Strongly recommend. Had a drink only. Street parking no problem.
I have wanted this experience for years and The Blue Room delivered!! The music got into my soul and I dont think Ill ever be the same after. The vibe is on point, the service immaculate and prompt, the Mayor recognized me from earlier in the day at the museum and walked my wife and I in and sat us.The musicians are truly special. I felt so fortunate to sit right in front of the action. So close, that I could hear them chatting between songs. Id have never known how much improv was happening otherwise i was left even more impressed. There were a few guest artist that stepped up and joined in. The night ended with a rocking jam session. I got jazz, I got the blues Id been craving, I left satisfied.I would do this again!! I cant wait.
We really enjoyed our time there at The American Jazz Museum particularly the Blue Room where they had some Live Jazz. It was great!! We were visiting from El Paso Texas. We were there for the Thursday Night Football game at Arrowhead but got to experience a lot of the nice places Kansas City has to offer.
This is a Jazz bar... that night we were there to see a new singer named Nya, look out for her, she was very good! I live in KC, all my life so my family visits the Blue Room at least once, twice a year! But since Covid not as much as before. They do not serve food, parking is on the street or nearby parking lots and they sell bar liquor/sodas only. The atmosphere is fun, and jazz-y so anyone would enjoy going there. Dont go hungry! LolGood local musicians and sometimes world renowned musicians play there... the cover charge depends on who is playing that night, from free to $30 .I recommend the Blue Room ! Should have taken pictures that night but didnt unfortunately...you wont be disappointed if you go!
Always great music!! Home of KC jazz and bebop! Come see this iconic gem of KC and fall back in time to jamming with jazz giants!Be sure to stop in at the museum next door. Also how about an authentic jam - check out the Mutual Musicians Foundation around the corner on Highland at 1-5 am Friday and Saturday. 100 yrs continuous operation protecting and promoting our legends. Not up for the late night jam? Check out their new Sunday jams at 5:30 pm!!! You wont be disappointed ❣️ 🎶🎹🎷🎸🎺🥁🎷🍸
Lived here all my life, love Live music here, but since Covid theres no food and the service is subpar
The performance was excellent. The service was disappointing. The server ignored our group the entire time we were there. We even tried getting her attention, which she also ignored and continued to serve patrons who entered after our party. We ended up getting our own drinks from the bar. We were there to see friends perform, but will not return after this experience. I expected more from this establishment 😔
Awesome place with lots of seating for an evening listening to jazz and poetry. Love the vibes
We typically come here for Monday night jam sessions. The musicians are wonderful, and it is awesome that younger musicians get an opportunity to play. Everyone is very welcome to one another. People of all ages and backgrounds come to play or just to watch. The service is excellent. I order dirty martinis, and this place really knows how to make them. We have brought friends visiting from out of town here, and they loved it!
I love this place. So many talented people have graced the stage
No food is served. The place is absolutely fantastic and so is the JWB band that features Clifford Mills when we go.
I rarely review places unless theyre outstanding and this venue is fantastic. If you found this review somehow, please do yourself a favor and come visit The Blue Room. If it hadnt been for my friend vouching for this place I wouldnt have ever gone and I wouldnt know what I was missing out on. The music is outstanding, the staff is phenomenal and the overall atmosphere is welcoming to new people and so positive. I want to come back even if its out of my way just to experience what I did tonight again.
I love the Blue Room and everything about it. They don’t serve food and don’t have an extensive selection of alcohol but it’s definitely adequate. People go to the Blue room for the wonderful music, atmosphere, and camaraderie and it never fails to impress.
Did not eat. Went for the Jazz. After 30 min while sitting at the bar, I asked the bartender for a drink. Southern style, leave ya alone...not busy early on. Parallel Street Parking-fun stuff. Make the trip, interesting part of town at night
Drove from Des Moines IA to spend Christmas weekend in KC. Purchased tickets 3 weeks in advance for the 10pm show on 12/23/2023. I arrived 20 minutes prior to the show and i was shocked from the moment I entered. The show was sold out yet while waiting to show my tickets they sold 8 tickets to a group in front of me. Once i entered, it appeared that the folks from the earlier show had remained inside. The place was overcrouded with no room to seat or stand. The place was over its capacity to the point that a fire marshall would have had a field day and shut the place down. The AC was non-existent. Hell was cooler than this place. I waited to see if folks would leave but more people was entering. There was no control at the entrance either as people was just walking in without anyone checking for tickets. I just left and I did not even try to get my money back as upset as I was. I will never go back and I would not recommend this place to anyone. If I could give it a 0 star I would.
I cannot give the music and hospitality of 4/28/23 off my mind. I havent been to a Jazz Venue in some time, and the Music had me crying inside over Why I ever left. The richness of the trio playing was absolutely transporting! Im horrible with names, but I caught one singers name, Chloe. Terrific. A while later a quartet played that was a total joy, especially in watching the good time that Trent (I think) had, playing that trumpet. The music - great, the house - great, and the people - Great! I WILL BE BACK to the Blue Room!
The Blue Room was a great experience. A jewel in the 18th and Vine area. Prolific musicians and excellent service! Get there early for best seating!
The Blue Room does not offer food. You can however contract an outside food catering service to bring food in for an event.
THIS PLACE IS NOT ONLY RELAZING ON HAPPY HR FRIDAY NIGHT 5.30 TO 7.30 WITH LIVE BANDS WHO ARE AMAZING BUT OFF THE CHAIN TOU HEARD ME! LOVE LOVE LOVE! DRINKS ARE THE BOMB AN WORTH IT
I wish I could give 10 stars. This place is unbeatable for real Kansas City jazz. The people there treated us like family. I was even given a private tour of the museum by a very kind lady who showed me her relatives that were in the historic photos in the museum! And then there was the MUSIC! The music was off the chain! Overall a great experience! Highly recommended! Thank you to all at The Blue Room‼️♥️
Always a good time. This time we went for the Jazz at Noon series. My 9 month old sons first time. I was sad there wasnt any type of beverage service, even carafes of self serve water or coffee would have been great
I love The Blue Room for its jazz, history and people. The Blue Martini is my Indigo Hour ritual. The Good Drink is a house Special. Staffing is always a problem, dont expect instant service. (The Museum is always underfunded). The cheerful attitude of your server will make up for it. So go immerse yourself in history at the 18th and Vine.
The live band was awesome, the crowd was very enjoyable and the people who were in charge and making sure that their customers were fully taken care of, we had a great time.
Saw Joe Cartwright, and several other free performances, was so impressed with the entry free nights. Children are allowed in as well for thier musical enrichment. Excellent date night place!
LOVE LIVE JAZZ!! IT HIT THE SPOT
I always enjoy a good jam session at The Blue Room. Its great to see a menagerie of folks on stage together playing and improvising together- so much fun!
This is one of my favorite spots on Friday night. Well, depending on the band but it has been pretty good lately. They do need more servers. The one we had was overwhelmed. This is a great place to hear some good music.
Great venue with full service bar. I attended when Lisa Henry was singing. The audience enjoyed the show. The waiters were kind and the bartenders were quick to serve. It is attached to the American Jazz Museum and contains several walls of Jazz memorabilia. A very welcoming environment and a good place to listen to some good music and meet new people with similar interests.
We went for Count Basies birthday. Phenomenal group, very friendly. They took the time to interact with audience members between sets and took requests. Ive been to Jazz clubs all over, but the Blue Room is special. Cannot recommend it enough.
Awesome night at a very cool spot. I will be looking forward to my next visit. Would be nice if coffee or LaCroix was available.
They have great bands. I especially love the Preston Portley band and I hope I spelled that correctly. Their music is wonderful. The drinks are good here. The place is small but that makes for a intimate, yet fun atmosphere.
We saw Lisa Henry here last Saturday. She was absolutely incredible, and so were her accompanying musicians. Such talent! She was hilarious and had a great stage presence. The ambiance was chill, but the jazz club itself is upscale. I would recommend dressing nice. The best part is that all ages are welcome!
Lady D and her group was slamming they played 60, 70 and current music all that sung her back up singer and drummer were fire. The bass guitar and painist was slamming to got a chance to take pics but not on my phone. She said whats up Boston so you know my head was blown up and she did audience participation which was splendid. My twin and I stayed for quartet was able to take pic with joe, yes again not my camera the phone camera was horrible but my friend she took pictures so I was happy. Would definitely recommend the locals, people in the USA and overseas to come to your establishment. Definitely next time in Missouri will come again. You certainly are the cats meow with all that JAZZ. LOVE THE PICTURES AND MURALS AND LADY IN CLEAR PIC JUST BEYOND THE WALL.
Very trendy place with awesome live music. The older black lady at the front desk collecting cover charge can be more friendly. The older black gentleman who was hosting guests was very pleasant. Might be the manager or owner. Love the deco and atmosphere.
Im giving 4 stars for music and atmosphere.Poor Service, no server at the table, bartender was slow and not very friendly. Needless to say, tip reflected service. Im sure the place lost money on drinks, but the music was over the top.
I went there for my birthday and had an absolute ball. The drinks were great and the musicians were amazing. Cant wait to go again.
Its been a few years since I had been, but was so great going back. Went for Monday night jazz jam sessions and really enjoyed it. Great music, the performers really know how to put on a show. Makes for a nice night out.
We caught a nice jazz band, and the place was full of nicely dressed locals. The front door guy was very friendly but the waitress didnt seem interested in serving us drinks. The band was on a short break and the room wasnt packed, so there was no reason for the lack of service. We did get two rounds, but gave up while waiting for the third and went across the street. If you dont mind waiting for drinks this is not a bad place.
This is definitely one of the nicer jazz clubs in the Kansas City Region - bar any. Ive frequent this place quit often this year. Indigo hour is my favorite time, and the Mayor of Vine is always a great host. Service leaves a lot to be desired. There is one young lady who provides service, one would accept at such an establishment. She has a dark complexion, very attractive, young lady in her early twenties. Sorry, I dont know her name; but, she is the desired server for most patrons. The others will write your orders on napkins, and won’t use server trays. They act as if it’s beneath them to use server trays or to carry more drinks they have hands. I only think of the revenue lost on lack of drink orders. There is a wide mix of music on tap at the Blue Room. If you like to patronize a Venue that puts the music as the focus; then you will enjoy the Blue Room. Four shows each week with two free shows on Monday and Thursday. Fridays evenings is my choice! Friday and Saturdays are reserved for top local talent and touring artists.Due to the Service, Id have to give the Blue Room 3 STARS. Please hire additional bar tenders, and bring on a professional wait staff. If they did this, this would be the Venue of Choice for most who love Jazz.
Waitress asked us to get our own drinks so I stood in line only for her to take my money get the beer from the bartender hand to me and never gave me my change her nightly tip i suppose but in all the music a 10
Classic jazz club within the KC Jazz Museum. The Indigo Hour every Friday is a great way to start the weekend, and of course later shows on Friday and Saturday night—if you want to have a true KC Jazz experience visit the Blue Room y’all! @kimyarla
Beautiful Jazz Bar with a lot of History. Drinks are Delicious and well made. Service is Awesome. Jazz band was Awesome. Beautiful and Historic with a museum of the History of Kansas City Jazz and all of the performers who have played there. Definitely coming back
Great ambiance. Sassy older server. Kind of a classy place but you can dress up or down and feel comfortable. Loved the music. Not too loud where you could still have conversation.
Table service lower level a little slow, not to mention taking a beer bath from one of the Helpful Henry Volunteers trying to clear my table which didnt need it. However the atmosphere was great, talented artist & performers were very outstanding. Especially the BMW Band.
Need to hire more servers, get rid of the one server that has been there forever she is not pleasant at all, actually she is mean. They just need more help
Had a great time friends of mine are in a band and they rocked it a perfect day after Thanksgiving and the place was clean and they made sure everyone was able to sit down
Very special place! Sons of Brazil were amazing. Outstanding staff .. and beer selection was great (and reasonably priced) which was a bonus.
This was my first time visiting the Blue Room in Kansas Citys historic 18th and Vine area. So many jazz and blues musicians played in The Blue Room that one can almost feel their presence well there.I had no idea of the depth and scope of everything here. The Gem Theater adjoining it has audio recordings both premixed and mixed that are first-rate that helped the novice and more experience listeners to understand better.
This place is a treasure. Im so glad I went to the American Jazz Museum and found The Blue Room adjacent. The music is wonderful, the staff is amazing, and the ambiance and atmosphere is nostalgic. I will be back!
Dug the music, vibe and setupOur waitress, although, very pretty. Got pretty upset with me when I walked in and got a drink at the bar. They should be more clear when ppl walk in. I would have gladly tipped her but I just didnt know.
My first time there and it will NOT be my last! Hidden jewel in KC nightlife. James Ward Band was phenomenal; server Lanette was a joy, and the atmosphere was wonderful!
Just traveling through from nebraska and my girlfriend and I stopped by this place for the evening not quite knkwing what to expect. We found good drinks, great atmosphere and great great music!!! A must see for anyone who appreciates a good bit of jazz... never knew I did really before this experience. A must visit!
Had a wonderful time listening to Blair Bryant. This young man is so talented and can play a guitar so good. My only draw back about this club is when you order a drink they put so much ice in the drink you cant really taste the alcohol in it.
First time going to a jazz club and liked it. I really liked the environment but not the service. Had to get my own drink since the waiter never came to the table. The music was descent, dissappointed that it wasnt traditional jazz.
The Blue Room was a fabulous experience. The music kept us lifted floating above the stars.
Love this place. The music is always great to listen to. Not large enough for the crowd but being a historical landmark makes this impossible.
Late night Saturday. The music was great! Relaxed atmosphere. The Host cool as the other side of the pillow. Waitress was super sweet.
This is in classic and a standard place you must visit while in Kansas City. Friday and Saturday is when youll hear the best, but Monday nights are nice too because theres no cover charge and anyone can sign up to sing or play. I would make this one recommendation to owners: provide something for patrons to snack on while they listen to music.
Love love love The Blue Room the band was fantastic, the waitresses were on the ball and the drinks were awesome! The experience was reviving to the spirt of what jazz is.
Great live music, good drinks and good service. Not an overflow crowd as it often is on a Friday evening, but most tables were full.Looking forward to going back soon!
Music was really good Ida Mae really done well....as for as the rest...where do I start ok the seats felt like bricks very uncomfortable. though nice the staff was lazy and took 45 mins to get asked about drinks etc. Hopefully this place can be turned around soon for I can revisit
This was an Awesome place for great jazz. Everyone was very nice and super friendly
Great atmosphere and skillful bartenders.
The music was good, but not style of jazz we were seeking. Drinks were watered down.- didn’t order a second round. Charged a 10.00 cover to boot.
The best jazz club and listening space in the region - bar none. If you like to patronize a venue that puts the music as the focus, then you will enjoy the Blue Room. Four shows each week with two free shows on Monday and Thursday. Fridays and Saturdays are reserved for top local talent and international touring artists. 5 STARS
I had an opportunity to hear Lady D, last night. Excellent show, very talented vocalist. Its the Blue Room, it always meets and exceeds all expectations.
I saw Charlie Hunter here a few years ago on a trip to visit family! Wow, was it great! I would love to get back out!
Ill be back. Very nice.
Loved hearing Jazzy Jazz on her amazing flute . Parking was great and well lighted parking lot..
Great music! Acceptable drinks, no food available when I was there, but Ive heard they have food sometimes. This place is really about the music, and that part is great!
Iconic home of KC blues and jazz. You can go in at any night and enjoy top performance musicians. Truly a city treasure and a must for a fan of any style music.
Mellow spiffy homie kinda spot... Saw a live band, music was OUTSTANDING! The Band director took pixs with me after the show 😂. How kool is that?!? During intermission, we were taken on a personal tour. Andre is amazing. Treated us like VIP! There was standing room only, Andre brought us a table & chairs. Where he put us, gave us an amazing view of the band. He made it his mission to make us feel at home. Eventually, we were lead to the floor directly next to the band (which was totally BAD AZZ!!🎶). If i youre ever in KANSAS CITY, two thangs ya gotta do: 1) getcha some barbecue (ask around, the replies i received were pretty consistant👍) & 2) make your way to the BLUE ROOM, be prepared to stay awhile😉... Big ups to the band! Google the website to pick out a venue & get your swag on!!
Standing room only when we got there. But most people left before the last set which was the best of the evening.
Nice atmosphere, great music, friendly staff... I just wish they had food... I understand its technically a museum, but I had to leave early cause I was getting hangry, lol...
James Ward Band was performing it was excellent. Service was top notch
Very nice atmosphere. Enjoyed the live music and meeting people. Friendliest people on the planet. Price on drinks wasnt bad and i give kudos to the service.
Always love this place! They welcome minors if with adult which is also nice for my teem daughter.
Its a nice place to listen to so great local artists. Just drinka little something before you get there...because the one poor waitress is working every section!!!
For fantastic jazz and blues, you should not miss The Blue Room in the 18th & Vine district. Gerald Dunn and his team are on point when it comes to ensuring that patrons ALWAYS have a great time. The mango daquiri is NOT to be missed.
Very good music, everyone was friendly. There was a nice atmosphere in the place. The drinks are cheap and staff is very friendly. Will go here again with friends.
I enjoy listening to the live music at the Blue Room. However when I buy a drink I would like something salty, pretzels, peanut, popcorn or chicken wings or something. That way Ill have something in my stomach and it dont me buy more.
Great music and nice atmosphere. It was a little cramped in the main sitting area, but up top further away from the band it was more spaced out.
One of the finest places to go & enjoy great music Jazz artist, dance till you cant stand. Superb drinks & service....Highly my recommend.
In the heart of Kansas Citys 18th & Vine jazz neighbourhood. Most nights has local jazz groups playing and entry is free too. Drinks are well priced too at around 5USD for a pint of beer and 7USD for a medium wine. I highly recommend this place if you fancy an authentic Kansas City jazz experience. There is also a free car park just over the road!
Im giving 4 stats because, friendly people, great music. But didnt have much for drinks.
What can I say? Its in the historical K.C. jazz district. Cant go wrong here on a night out. Great music. Reasonable drink. Great atmosphere
Love this place! I really cant get enough of coming to The Blue Room. The bands are excellent and the vibe of the room is the best there is.
Friendly atmosphere, danced to Salsa and Flamenco one night. Danced to Cajun music and blues another night. Great prices and seating.
It had been nearly 4-years since ld been at the Blue Room. James Ward on bass guitar was fantastic as always; the Blue Room on 18th and Vine is the place for smooth music.
I had an amazing experience there. Staff was very welcoming and the music was stellar
Historic jazz venue attached to the American Jazz Museum. Rich history and an excellent place to hear local and national artists continuing the legacy of Jazz in the 18th & Vine district.
What a great night of jazz. Everyone is always so talented.
This was our first time and it wont be our last. Such a great and histotic atmosphere and the music was phenomenal.
Everytime I go it never ceases to impress. I love visiting this place. The vibes, the music, the drinks, a must-go periodt.
Love coming to see my family and friends perform. One of the staples on 18th & Vine. If you like live jazz this is the place to go!
Great small room, with great service and no bad seats. They get top talent and the feel of the room reflects the jazz history of the city.
Amazing jazz club! Here for Friday Indigo! Great vibes!
Fun jazz spot and good experience. Didnt have any drink request we asked for however.
Good for place that doesnt serve any appetizers or food went to see a group but ended up seeing someone else and they didnt play any jazz or Blues
It was a great experience I love the music it was really fantastic the ambiance the service I enjoyed myself very much I wish we in Orange County would have something like this
Saw Bobby Watson and other amazing Jazz musicians...a must see for anyone traveling to KC who knows great music!!
If you love blues, jazz and music history, the Blue Room and American Jazz Museum are amazing! Musical performances vary but most all are very good or great!
Always elegant and classy
Was here for a Soul of Santa charity event.Had a good time.
Great place to catch live jazz in Kansas City!
I was here for an event for KKFI. Omg the environment was amazing and uplifting. As a first timer, it was beautiful and enjoyed every aspect of it. Thanks yall!
Amazing history of Jazz and Music everywhere. Talent was top notch. Quick and friendly service but no frilz drinks.
Cool spot for some jazz!
Enjoyed the different sounds of music very much from various artists in birthday celebration for Ida Macbeth
Very welcoming.. They sang happy Birthday to me! Great music and People.
Great music. Service was a little slow. Might need another server.
This is not open. We tried calling and online showed this jazz club was open. We traveled 15 minutes to go here and it was closed and looks like it has been closed for awhile. Disappointed they have not updated there website
First time there and LOVED it! The people were nice and the music was excellent!
Love the authentic historic jazz club ambience of this place. Have visited many times over the years and have never been disappointed! 😊
Great music.Bad service in the bar.Venue needs maintenance.
I came here with a couple of friends of mine not too long ago. I was impressed great music great food and a great time.
The acoustics were awesome! The people were nice and nicely dressed - it was fun! The jazz band sounded fabulous!

Great place for live music and a drink. Sharing music you dont hear all the time. Diverse
Stopped in for some live music after the symphony and was not disappointed.
Always a good time at the Blue Room Monday Jam sessions are the BEST!!
Fun evening with great jazz players. Woman bartender was rude though.
Because they gave me my own art gallery. There was so many things to see. You must go soon !!!
Beautiful place, friendly atmosphere, amazing jazz music!! Loved every second of it!
First time visiting the blue room. The music was fantastic and the people were very friendly.
Great night listening to the legendary Ida McBeth and her fantastic guitarist, Paul Evans. A fantastic jazz music venue.
Nice laid-back atmosphere there are usually bands or singing Act playing on Friday and Saturday evening
Great venue for live jazz. This place should have jazz every day
My female friend and I went to see the 5-9pm live band play on a Saturday evening and had a good time.
Always a Great Time! Staff is Always Welcoming/Friendly! Music is Always Awesome!
Ok for a late spot but good luck getting an Uber at night from here.
Came to see the Montez Coleman Quartet. Between the music and atmosphere, this place definitely didnt disappoint. Highly recommended!
Lightning setup was professional, great Jazz with comfortable environment feel the mood
Sublime. What a great venue, cozy, amazing sound system, waitstaff on point. Had a great evening listening to jazz.
Great music. Great local beer and drinks.
I always have a good time at the Blue Room. Ida McBeth a her world class band brought the house down.
Waitress took our order & never came back with our drinks after 45mins. We got up & left.
The music was lovely would have given a 5 star but knocking it down due to the drinks not being the best
Music was great! Awesome atmosphere and very kind staff!
Love all kinds of music. Especially Jazz.. great atmosphere and the line up is always on point.
Gotta see some live Jazz in historic 12th and Vine district. Great little Cajun place down there as well.
Love the classy atmosphere here. Great drinks and music.

Nice clean and friendly. Come to listen and drink a adult drink. It was a strong Manhattan.
This is a Kansas City gem. Great jazz, great atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Wonderful! We enjoyed the service and music -- well be back!
Lovely evening out. Thanks Miss Ida and your talented band. Thank you Mr. Mayor.
Great place! Live jazz music! Thoroughly enjoyed myself!
If only the interior matched the vibe of the menu. I liked everything I ordered from this place.
Best kept secret in Kansas City, free music on Monday, smoke free, you can bring your children!
