Awesome gay bar! Stopped by here the other night and had a great time. Danny the bartender is flirty, funny, and mixes a strong drink.
We made this place a stop on our celebration of my youngests 21st birthday pub crawl, and enjoyed our visit and drinks! We went upstairs where we could toss some beads from the balcony and had a great drink and chat with the bartender, who gave us some good ideas on other places to visit. Everyone was friendly, the place felt clean, and the atmosphere was great. Thank you for being part of our evening!
One of, if not the best Gay Club in New Orleans. Always a good time to be had by all and the bar staff is exceptional.
Bay absolutely is the best bartender!!! Love how welcomed he made my wife and I feel we will definitely be coming back too see him more
Always have a great time visiting when we are in town. Disco on Sundays is fun, especially with the napkin toss! The upstairs balcony is great for people watching, and they have a neat Sopranos themed pinball machine by the stairs. Thank you to Shane, Nick, and Otis at the downstairs bar for being so welcoming and making our trip special :)
One of the best bloody marys Ive ever had -- it had pickled string beans and chili-stuffed olives. Great no-nonsense place. I wanted a drink at 9am and I got a good one! My kind of place!
My wife and I recently visited New Orleans. On a recommendation, we visited this wonderful establishment. We were greeted by Jeremy, a very fine bartender and several patrons. Everyone was very friendly. I would highly recommend visiting Cafe Lafitte in Exile if you are in the quarter. Jeremy makes the best hurricanes, but his special recipe Bloody Mary is to die for! I loved the bar, but I specifically give this one a five star review because of Jeremy’s enthusiasm and drink making abilities. I will go again on my next visit and spend even more time.
What a fun and inviting place! Literally have spent the night meeting people. Bartenders are stellar!! Jeremy is the best!! Really know how to take care of their customers and deter harassment from non patrons
Jeremy was an Awesome bartender, very knowledgeable about the area and also very entertaining! We were visiting from the Napa Valley, stopped in for a brunch time beverage and ended up staying much longer than anticipated because we were having such a delightful time (also gave us yummy food recommendations)! Thank you Jeremy for a memorable experience! 🤩
Bale was our bartender. Such an amazing person. We came back multiple times just to chat with him!
$14.25 for a drink that wasnt even all that!I will not return here. They use a measured pour system, which charges you by the shot. So, be careful what you order.I ordered 3 long Islands on a non-holiday, Monday night, and was appalled when the tab was $42.75. Thats $14.25 per drink. The measured pour system charges BY SHOT. THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR A DRINK! $3 for a shot of triple sec in a drink? TRY AGAIN!!
This is the oldest gay bar in the country, stemming from lafittes blacksmith down the street, which is where the name comes from. I love this place. I’ve been going there for years. The upstairs is filled with great natural lighting, they have a pool table, and a balcony—which is one of the best places to people watch on bourbon street. They also host one of the best karaoke nights in town on Wednesday night. Highly recommend.
JEREMY IS THE BEST!!!! He’s so sweet and funny. We had so much fun coming back to see him each night. Until next time Jeremy!
Whoaaaa, I was in here this afternoon for a cocktail prior to the New Order concert, and the vibe was nice as ALWAYS. However, in coming back in here later after the concert, I unfortunately met some new bartender named Lucias. Where did yall find him, Pensacola???!!!! He DEFINITELY is NOT friendly!!!! And is not I expect to see in a New Orleans gay bar!!!
Oldest gay bar in America doesnt accept American cash!?! Isnt it ironic -- dontcha think? Visited last night for the first time in years and was appalled to learn that my cash was not good there. Classist, bankster-loving elitism. Barf-out, totally! Staff were pleasant. BYEEEEE!!!
Spending my 2023 Thanksgiving with my dear queer friends at Cafe Latfitte in Exile during its Wednesday Karaoke Night. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, and huge inventory of songs to choose from.
After eight years I was finally able to get back to this bar. It was a rainy Monday afternoon so we were thankful to Nicholas for warming us up with some stiff drinks. Although considered a gay bar everyone was welcome. It made feel like I should have been back more times in between this eight years!
Popped in for an afternoon drink. Very friendly bartender who took great care of us. A nice cozy bar that felt very welcoming to me (as a fat, cis, queer lady) and my mom (a grey-haired cis lady). Worth a visit!
I just visited tonight from California. I originally looked here searching for kind accepting people. I thought this was a safe space and all I wanted was validation like the queer safe places I bartend at in SF but the bartenders and patrons here were cruel and mean. I left in tears. I try traveling alone trying to find good pure energy. This is not the place. Please. Please take my word. If you are trying to find a friendly environment who cares about you please go to another bar
The food 5The service and staff are amazing and worth so much more recognition! The environment when you walk in is very important and this place DELIVERS!! So queer friendly and welcoming inclusive energy so slunty so it such bespoke dive esque so inclusive
Jeremy was wonderful. Will be back... Made our trip. What a historic part of the quarter, and an exciting, important place to visit. Jeremy - lots oflove from the Australians!
Very fun spot but also very curious on the history of the lantern in the main bar area. It looks very concerning and beetlejuice-y
Cafe Lafitte is a comfortable welcoming space for anyone and everyone that I cant recommend strongly enough. Mikaila is an old school classic bartender who can manage a crush of tourist parties while still keeping a smile in her face and a (metaphorical) song in her heart. This bar is an institution, she is an asset; there is nowhere else on Bourbon that comes close.
2 stars for the bartender downstairs who was really friendly but upstairs bartender was nasty and rude to my friend and I for no reason . My friend bought a drink downstairs and we decided to check out the balcony upstairs . The moment the older white man saw me the very first thing he said was “ what the hell you doing at my bar “ . I thought he was joking at first but he was serious . Then I informed him we just had just bought a drink downstairs , then he said upstairs was another bar and that if We wanted to check the balcony we needed to purchase drinks from him. Who on their right mind or any sense of self respect would give money to someone who literally uncalled for treated them not only as humans but customers with disdain and rudeness . All that happened in front of two other people sitting at bar upstairs who laughed at us , we were pretty much humiliated and I was so caught off guard that I couldn’t even react to it im still processing it . The white older man clearly don’t like Latinos and he’s not shy about it . If you are Latino go to the first floor only or elsewhere .
Visited there and ordered a bloody mary, the bartender stuck his dirty hands in the jar for olives. So gross, walked out and threw in in the garbage.
We were ordering breakfast at Clover Grill and asked for Bloody Mary’s. They sent us across Bourbon Street to Lafitte in Exile. I got three and the bartender helped me carry them back to Clover’s. Great Bloody Mary’s and one super bartender
Ryan was so amazing, helpful and friendly. He made me a great cocktail that was super refreshing and tasty and gave plenty of suggestions about what to do in New Orleans. I also enjoyed talking to him about anything and everything, best bartender ever!
My favorite place in New Orleans, no question. Mikaila and Otis are amazing, the vibe is low-key and super welcoming, and the regulars treat visitors like family. The Lafitte in Exile is my first stop anytime I’m in New Orleans and I’d be a daily visitor if I lived there.
Otis was very amazing and nice and sweet and compasiniate and personable and welcoming and we can cannot wait to come back .
Super awesome stop with great prices drinks. Every bartender is very attentive and accommodating, be it a busy holiday or a normal day of the week.Do youraelf a favor and grab a PoBoy from the across the street and snag a drink here.
My first gay bar Halloween night 1975, met hottie who had just got out of the Navy. I had just got out of the Army. Best Halloween Ever!
I went in to kill some time before I could check in to my hotel. The regulars were friendly, talking to me about where I am from as well as the music playing in the bar. The bartender (Derek, a very attractive Canadian man) was just the nicest! I can imagine that he deals with crappy people all the time, working on Bourbon street and what not, but I was impressed with how nice he is. I will definitely tell my friends who want to have a drink and meet some interesting people to go there. And I will make it a point to return on my next visit.
My favorite gay bar, the oldest one in the country. (Which probably means the world,) Attractive interior with a friendly staff and a balcony good for people watching on Bourbon Street. Towards the quieter, more residential end of Bourbon, away from the really crazy stuff.
Low key bar right on bourbon street with friendly bartenders and great prices on drinks. Very nice wrap around balcony on the second floor as well as an additional bar and pool table. Nice variety of music. Crowd skews a bit older, but it is generally a mix when ive been in the past. Smoking is allowed on the balcony and on the sidewalk outside. Can get crowded and stuffy at times but generally during larger events (decadence, Halloween, etc)
On June 27, a friend and I went on a road trip from Houston to Chicago, making a stop in New Orleans. We walked Bourbon Street and wanted to find a low key establishment to hang out for a while. We walked past Cafe Lafitte and decided to try it out, promptly going to the upstairs. It was on the earlier side of the night, and the downstairs bar had about 10-15 people in it. The upstairs bar was completely empty, and the balcony had just one person on it. We came into the bar with a drink from another bar - clear cup, about 2/3 empty. The bartender, Keith, greeted us, and my friend and I stepped onto the balcony. The bar manager, Benjamin, swiftly ran outside and, without greeting us, coldly told us that we have to purchase a drink in order to use the balcony. We told him it wasnt a problem at all and we were just about done with the drink that we came in with, showing him there were about two sips left. My friend and I continued conversing when about three minutes passed and our new best friend Benjamin walked over and said, Guys, Im serious. You need to buy a drink or leave.I understand that it would be extremely rude of us to bring in a full drink from another bar and use this bar for their balcony, but we made it very evident that we only had about two sips left in our drink and we were going to go in the bar and purchase another in just a moment, a point we had to reiterate again. After going inside, Keith, the bartender, apologized for Benjamins highly unprofessional behavior, and began talking to us as if we were old friends, not newly acquired enemies to the bar. Keith was very friendly and accommodating and we bought a couple drinks from him over the next hour or so. When my friend and I stepped back out onto the balcony, a balcony we NOW had access to since the bar had our $8...a bartender from a different bar came up and talked to us. He works at Good Friends, a bar just off Bourbon Street, and he, too, was extremely friendly. If anything, Id recommend Good Friends over Cafe Lafitte in Exile. As a bar manager, Benjamin should have been friendlier and not scared away two customers, as the bar that night at that time was dead. Rather than rudely hound on us like we were hoodlums, try being a little more proactive in your approach Benny. Take notes from Keith and bartender Chris from Good Friends. You could learn a thing or two from them.We will not be visiting Cafe Lafitte in Exile again.
Not a gay bar. Oldest gay bar in the US, my ass. We were the only gay people in there. The rest were drunk straight people. Worst gay bar ever. Dont add to the narrative. If you want a place to go for drunk straight women, this is your bar. No gay guys need apply
I visited this bar with my partner several times during my trip to New Orleans and I have nothing but fond memories of it. One of the bartenders, Jeff, was particularly nice, and we loved talking to the bar’s regulars. I highly recommend the popcorn if you get the chance!
Otis and Nicolas are amazing. Pour meter on the drinks kinda sucks but beers are nice.
Fun fun fun ‼️ Sunday napkin toss
It’s a good option for stop by for a drink and enjoy some AC. They also have good area upstairs and outsideI think the biggest complain that restrooms here are absolutely disgusting.
Ryan (DOWNSTAIRS) is too old to adopt. ONLY thing wrong about Lafitte! Had a WONDERFUL time here Halloween week. Every staff member here is amazingly friendly, would have liked to meet Mr. Bubbles, maybe next time. Great music & awesome vibe!Have Ryan make you a Hurricane!
The space is nice, has a good history. But the bartender made the worst hurricane I had while I was in New Orleans. We were there early in the day, can’t really judge the mood.
Great place, every year at Christmas I see him there,a wounded, widowed warrior who comes to drink a toast to his fallen gay comrade who set this bar as his psuedo mosoleum. (Heard the story 9 years running) soldiers are closer than brothers...and this man Timmy or Jimmy last year leap to the aid of a newlywed lesbian couple when they were being stalked by a drunken weirdo by distracting him with a cute line about being the token breeder for them and then getting this drunken loser to admit that he was married and chasing tail....all in two minutes.the drunken faithless loser left and I was amazed at how he was right back to being an old man...but for a moment he was bold and courageous when it counted....if I see him this year I will hug him....they dont make men like that anymore....it was HOT to watch it all go down....
Such a fun and completely delightful place to come for drinks and Karaoke. The staff and patrons were so wonderful, my husband and I felt very welcomed by all. We will be back for sure.
This is by far my favorite locals hangout. You get sassy but friendly bartenders, drag queens who will let you join in on the show and drinks that will leave you falling off your barstool.
Very scary according to the owner he purchases his food over a week before use. Sounds like you will never get fresh food here.We had already purchased all of our food and drink supplies ... and we had the rug pulled out from under us at the last minute, Church said.On Feb 5 for use from Feb 12-16
Tyler was amazing!! What a wonderful bartender and genuinely kind, attentive person. He made our completely unplanned stop here an absolute joy!!
Drinks are great, prices are good, atmosphere is excellent, and there is this really hot and fun bartender named Gabriel that works there. He is very sweet and entertaining and a lot of fun to look at.
My partner and I usually go early afternoons. The bartenders, Robert Miller (Bob), Jeff Palmquist, and Nicholas Lazar, were outstanding, made us feel welcomed as always, with their smiles and attitudes.
Im gonna tell you we accidentally walked in because my wife needed a bathroom.I said, my wife is going to the bathroom and i am buyung a beer. The bartender helped her out with the KEY to the room and yes I bought a beer and a margarita for the MRS.I was very apprecitave for the compassion and respect from the bartender.Thank you!
We went to New Orleans this weekend for a bday celebration and on our first night we came across with this amazing bar! We continued going every night because of the good and friendly service they have starting with their bouncer Lee and bartender Chad!!
Proceeded to attempt to use the womens or unisex bathroom only to discover that it was locked with a sign that said to see the bartender for the key and that you must purchase a drink to use. This is discriminatory towards woman as the mens piss trough was open to the guys with no stipulation about buying drinks to access the privIege of using the bathroom. I dont care if this establishment is gay or not, they are violating the law, (might as well have a sign in the window that reads: no women allowed) Ill be contacting Louisiana state senators offices by email to inform them of these illegal and misogynistic practices.
Just sad. I’m a out of town bartender just on a little vac and your bartender is stoned or something on something. All over the place. Charge me double!!! I waited for a drink over 10 mins. Just a bad experience
Great vibe at this place. The bartenders are friendly are so are all the locals that frequent here. Good drinks, good people, and good music.
Nice bar with great staff and wonderful prices. If you like the bar scene, youll love this place!
This is my favorite place in NOLA. First experienced in 1984, not much has changed , still a great place. (well, I havent seen anyone f****d on the pool table recently. Fond memories
Great bartender, but had the rudest manager who decided randomly we were not allowed to take pictures within the bar. We cant take pictures of our vacation here? Ok, well leave.
This is always my first stop when visiting Nola and I am never disappointed. You cannot beat happy hour prices and friendly bartenders!
My bf and I had a really good time. The drinks were really good! Our bartender was really cool and the vibe was awesome!
Gorgeous bar! Staff was very friendly! Will def go back when we have more time. Great music too!!!
The staff here is outstanding, and the Sunday night napkin toss is a joyous atmosphere. Special S.O. to Otis & Kavin!
Fantastic experience, great vibes and delicious drinks. Would fly back here to do it again.
Seriously cheap drinks if you show up up early enough in the day. Not a large place but a nice one.
Jeremy the bar man was a gentleman and a stud. Make sure to visit if you are in the neighbourhood
Friendly employees!!! Great crowds!!! Love this bar!!! One of my all-time favorite bars in the French Quarter one of my all-time favorite bars in the French Quarter!!!
Best bar in New Orleans for gay people (female or male). A must visit. Say hi to bartender Aletha best bartnender!!
Fun atmosphere and affordable drinks. Kind of rickety chairs tho 😅
Fun place to go and dance too many people complaining about all hospitality buisness must be spoiled we call this the Kind Granola Bar Generation. Please dont be rude to service staff.....
Super weird crowd. The drinks are okay but the atmosphere doesn’t makes this stop worth it on Bourbon.
Great local bar. Friendly staff and really nice folks hanging out having drinks.
This is hands-down the worst gay bar in LA. Could not get a drink here no matter how hard I tried. Was ignored for 30 minutes then he waited on a group of straight chicks that just walked in...Suck it!
Love all the bar staff, just remember, they are like other servers, always tip your bartender.
It was a perfect spot to watch the Barkus parade (dogs!) from the balcony. The staff was all super-friendly.
One of my favorite hangouts. I’d love to take my girlfriend, ahem… but she lives in Canada
If you go here, ask for Jeremy - the best bartender
One of the best bars in the city. You should come and see jeff friday through Tuesday 1 til
Great drinks, casual atmosphere. No drama and age neutral. Music appropriate.
All the bartenders are so great and welcoming. Everyone from gay men, to lesbians, to trans people are welcome!
Jeremy was so so so Awesome so friendly and the drinks were crisp and delicious
I had a decent time. First stop on my visit to Nola. Had a great view on the balcony.
Sunday evening napkin toss! Most classic bar experience in America.
Love the fact ths bar truyt is 24 hours. Oh, and the bartender is fabulous. Xoxo
So much fun.. upstairs balcony is awesome.. whole bar is a awesome!
Great corner space. The people here give it 5 stars. It doesnt hurt to take cute friends with you.
John and Bob were the BEST!!! EVERYTHING!!! Foster the manager was the bomb too!
Very unprofessional bartender. He was actually blowing some guy in the bathroom. Not even good at it.
Great service and got a free bottle of champagne for my birthday!
Decent service a little slow. Food was good but a little pricey. Cute decor
Great for fun late night quick cocktail. Machine pour always annoys me
Random place to land in New Orleans. Thank you my brother Michael Mulcahy Some things happen for a reason❤️
Great staff, good drinks, fun crowd.
Very friendly staff made me feel very welcome for a first visit to New Orleans
You gotta get a bloody here... Ask for cucumber vodka. Really freaking great!
One of the best gay bars to hang out at in the Quarter.
Fun bar in the French just far enough from the crazies further up Bourbon. Check it out.
This was the ONLY gay bar on Saturday night on bourbon that DID NOT have a cover!!
Great place & Great staff. Always a funn time!!
One of my favorite hangout places in NOLA.
At the Gaybar, nice cornerbar where the drinks are served with a smile.
Bar tender is not very attentive for not being busy
This is always one of our favorite places when we come visit New Orleans

Ok, so not exactly what we are used to from Israel, parties until midnight, bars full of people..The bars here are open every night, in August when there are no festivals the place is relatively quiet. The bar is located in the middle of Bourbon Street, as we arrived we were greeted with a smile by the man at the entrance and the nice bartender, who really explained to us about all the days, parties and bars/discos in the area.Really nice, we spent half an evening there..Warmly reigning!
Superb location and nice bartender.
