The beat was pulsing as I made my way upstairs. It was a relief that it wasnt too crowded up there. Although, I was disappointed to find that even the beers were warm. I was really craving a cold one, but no such luck at the upstairs bar. When we stepped out onto the balcony, we were treated to an amazing view of Bourbon Street. The hustle and bustle down below was incredibly entertaining. The bar staff were all top-notch.
A sad place. Unwelcoming bartenders, guys always asking for money inside and outside the bar, unfriendly service, and a do-nothing owner. I hear it used to be good, but after many visits, and seeing so much drug use and pickpocketing (very prevalent here—watch your belongings if you dare), I would say skip this faded dive and try Mag’s across the street with Princesse and friendly service—oh, this place is cash only too…convenient for running 2 sets of books. If you’re a Bloody Mary fan, stop in on Sundays, tho, and make sure to pay your respects to Willamina and tell her Joshua sent you—she has ALL the stories from her 50+ years living in the city and loves making Bloody’s with ALL the garnish.
Really underwhelmed and disappointed. Staff was rude. The people weren’t really friendly either. People kept asking me about my sex life and then I got groped my a stranger and I left.In a city with 1,000 bars, this is is not worth your time. 999 better options available in every directions.
Pretty nice place. Friendly staff and patrons. The upstairs (the Eagle) can be lots of fun too :-)
I came to this amazing bar and had a great time, I always heard about up stairs, so I has to check it out and had a great time, planning my next visit.
Best bar in New Orleans by far. Nice people - patrons and staff. You will have a great time here. Reasonable prices. Never a cover. Check out the upstairs lounge after 9:00 p.m.
This bar and its staff literally saved my life when I was younger. Of all the things I miss about living in New Orleans, the Phoenix is damn near at the top of the list.
UPDATE: They no longer have a bag check (or maybe never did but provided the courtesy out of politeness) so you must carry your shirt if you wish to remove any items of clothing. Bring the bare necessities if you wish to go upstairs. Bags and fanny packs are not allowed and they will not allow you access.Still a great bar and atmosphere, but sadly I carry too much to fit into my pockets for upstairs entry! :(Respect the rules and you will have a fantastic time! One of the last true wonderful seedy bars left in New Orleans. No clothes check but bring a small plastic bag if you wish to take your shirt off. If you are thoughtful to the staff they will keep it for you. Tip them well too! I would recommend the second floor restroom if you need to relieve yourself due to the space to spread out.
I love this place is my first time here but the bartender stole my money I paid with at 20 bill and he only govme at change for 10 so he is drunk man first time here and I have this experience thats not good take care of you cash... o dont have complain about the place my complaint is about the bartender the place is awesome
This bar any, New Orleans has its own spirit, I like to visit there when I am in New Orleans. The floor upstairs is interesting 😅, the drinks prices are extremely cheap may be the cheapest I ever seen, they take only cash though, but they have an ATM machine! And it’s amazingly open 24 hours .
Too wide open for me but magnificent nonetheless
Great place for cheap drinks and fun times. A good feeling and the bartenders are very friendly. Every time I go I feel welcome and for whatever reason I have the most intense conversations with people. Also the leather shop is awesome. All around a good energy with the right amount of debauchery lol.
Super low key spot in New Orleans great drink prices music for everyone near most of the other gay bar in the FQ. GOOD LUCK to the worker that got fired the other night
Very poor service, upstairs the bartender was very rude, we had to go downstairs for a decent drink, was strong, fair price, still not a great experience, I would not recommend it
Do not go here! They encourage police brutality. If you go to an event here and it gets too “rowdy” or “political” they’ll call the cops on their own patrons and you could possibly be detained!Edit: There’s a fine line between “supporting the police” and encouraging unnecessary brutality/arrests against queer patrons. There’s a lot of other bars that do not try to suppress free speech and allow queer people to be their authentic, dissenting selves- this bar is not one of them.
The bar service here is always friendly and efficient. Excellent craft beer selection. Really reasonable pricing and a great happy hour. The COK shop is awesome also, great selection to meet all of your expectations. Other services can also be found at the top which are great as well! All in all, whether you are just visiting or you live here, this place will fulfill your needs.
I have had a working relationship with the Phoenix for years now and I can’t say enough good things about it. It provides a wonderful indoor and outdoor space for the LGBT community to socialize and relax, with very fair beverage pricing. Additionally, their store has a variety of merchandise like leather, toys, apparel, and other supplies. Easily my favorite gay bar in New Orleans!
The best bar in town. The staff is wonderful and we had a great fun on Sunday with the Italian guys dancing on the dancefloor. Thank you very much for your hospitality. See you soon ❤️
Fun bar especially upstairs. No food here
The upstairs and the leather shop were fun. But Ive been multiple times to this bar and the bartenders are aloof while the other patrons just flat out ignore you. Apparently if youre not a local people dont care to bother with you. Very unfriendly atmosphere.
Gaygaygaygay! The Eagle upstairs is a delight.
Its a cool bar. But Im going to assume its too dark because it seems hard for people of darker skin to be seen by bartenders due to the dim lights.
Love the kinky bingo they host there every other month or so. Went there with friends. None of us were gay and we felt very welcome there and didnt feel uncomfortable. Nice little bar. Highly recommend this place
My Brother and his boyfriend once owned the Phoenix, so hubby and I popped in to take a look inside. Yep, its a corner bar! It sits on the out skirts of the night scene which I thought was cool. Either its a hike walking back to Burbon St or we were just lost as heck. It was worth it!!
My boyfriend and I were visiting from Berlin for 4 nights in New Orleans and every single night we ended up here. Super friendly staff, very reasonably priced drinks. We had a great time! 😍
Total snooze fest. Stay in the French quarter!!!!! How this place got such great reviews is beyond me. Cold. Long ways out of the way...and just a rude, non-pleasant place. Bleh!!! Its only redeeming quality was the 3 cabs outside waiting to take us back to more happening gay bars in the French quarter.
Hottest bar in town for beards, leather, bears and raunchy behaviors. Friday and Saturday nights are pumping up stairs. Not for the faint at heart or poor vision. Its dark as a starless night at the upstairs bar and the goings on will leave you saying...wha? Or o hell yes!
Cash only so annoying an inconvenient
The Phoenix successfully merges the classic levi/leather bar aesthetic with the friendly neighborhood dive. Drinks are always cheap & its open 24/7/365. Friendly bartenders, local club events on the weekends & a well-stocked store for all your sexy needs, the Phoenix is the best gay bar in NOLA
Super friendly neighborhood style bar that happens to be gay. Great drinks at low prices. Oh and they have an upstairs that is special for gay men, only. The shop is kinda cool as well!
A great gay bar in NOLA. The Eagle, upstairs, in what was obviously once the attic of the old house in which the Phoenix Bar lives, is great fun. The more crowded the place is, the more likely you will have a rapturous event while there. Hint, hint...
Michael is a great bartender. My favorite for sure. Great personality and very friendly. Visited for my first Southern Decadence. Will be back for sure!
Gay bar catering to the leather crowd provides a no-frills 24/7 hangout with a pool table. HighlightsBar gamesFast serviceGreat beer selectionGreat cocktails
Always a ghost town except during special events. One of the few gay bars in America were you can still watch live sex acts of all kinds (during special events). Not a friendly crowd. Be in a clique or be ignored.
The phoenix bar is a very warm welcoming place to all. The upstairs is welcoming to the few male customers who brave it. The bartenders are all nice. And the store is convenien.
Awesome bar. I just got REAL PISSED OFF when the bartender told me thats my last song my selection of music. If i wanted to be limited on the music I listened to I would have stayed at home with my brothers. I like the bar but telling me I cant play certain music is a NO NO. Ill try again maybe in a few months but for now I will try somw other venue...maybe Golden Lantern.
A great, if somewhat subdued, atmosphere (6:45pm on a Tuesday). Friendly bartender. Had a wonderful Bloody Mary. Highly recommend ~6/25/2019~
A nice local gay bar. Five or six blocks from the French Quarter. Enclosed smoking patio, notoriously uninhibited portions of the upper room. Not for the faint of heart.
Been going there for years whenever I come to NO. Great indoor and outdoor spaces, drinks, staff and men. Men will be men. Always have to come there when I go to New Orleans - or vice-versa.PS - Thom from Dallas says slurp.
I always love a local gay bar. Phoenix is no exception. Everyone is nice, and the prices are just right. I met loads of new people and felt at home the whole time.
Slightly small venue, friendly with cozy atmosphere. cash only with atm onsite. pup friendly so a huge plus. will definitely make another trip.
We came here randomly on a Tuesday night while bar hopping and, despite the place being mostly empty, had a great time. Fetish shop in the back, porn upstairs, friendly bartenders and great overall vibes.
Ezekiel is an awesome bartender. By far the friendliest one I had the pleasure to meet on my visit to New Orleans.
There are some very dark and questionable things that are going on upstairs. Door man could have warned us but instead just said good luck f#%*ing!!
I just Love the friendly environment and the way the establishment is open to all genders no matter ethenic background. Lets not forget the OneStop Shop for all the latest fashion accessories.
Still one of the best bars in New Orleans. Like home away from home.
By far my favorite bar in New Orleans! Great drinks! Friendly Staff! Low key atmosphere!
Best leather bar
I loved this place. Visited from Atlanta. Does anyone know of any good apartments in the area thinking about moving to New Orleans.
Worst service Ive ever experienced. The upstairs barteneder was ok, but downstairs he was as rude as can be.
Its fine. Dont bring a party here unless the bar is hosting it
Always a good experience no matter the time of day. Bartenders are friendly and a safe place for gay people from all walks of life.
Love the pheonix its a great place to chill meet others to talk with GREAT BARTENDERS wayne,Dean, and all the others are awesome , upstairs is a hot added feature very nice as well
Stay downstairs is great! But upstairs is only bar I’ve ever been too where the customer pays when the bartender knocks a drink over
One of my favorite gay bars anywhere. You can buy poppers and great here as well!
By far my favorite bar. Great mix of neighborhood, bear and leather.Hes that in New Orleans.
Lynx was awesome!
What a great place to chill and socialize. Very friendly staff and reasonable drinks.
Not too bad as far as gay dive bars go. Very dark inside, except the back store
:-) Good drinks, friendly patrons and staff. A usual haunt for us whenever we are in New Orleans.
Super great barstaff and comfy bar. Also they never screw you over on drinks.
Best leather bar in New Orleans hands downSmoke room, store, and upstairs play room bar. Just can not be beat hands down
Always a friendly, respectful, and often fun staff ! This place IS my extended gay family !!!
Great bar, friendly people, great bartenders.
The worst place I have visited.
Fun and friendly crowds, bartenders and staff. Upstairs gets a bit wild at times!
Some times you just need a nice dark bar to do what you want be yourself get some leather on.
Great bartenders, and the clothing shop is reasonable. Upstairs is a late night hook up spot!
HOT Bartenders, friendly outgoing patrons and AWESOME atmosphere!!! I LOVE the Phoenix!!!
Cool place to go for us locals at 3 am on a Monday night because we aint going to sleep right now.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! HAD A BLAST! BEST GAY BAR IN NOLA!
Best bar in NOLA! Cant wait to go back again!!
Great spot, super friendly staff and guests. Will def return on my next trip.
The atmosphere during the day is dead. The music that the Bartender play is depressing.
Who hasnt heard some sort of word of mouth about The Phoenix? Not for everyone, and thats fine cuz the ones that do go, are certain to go back again.
Good dive/cruise bar. Used to be better but the city “fixed” it
Wow this place is great for those last minute ideas and the bathrooms are so clean!
Good people and staff. Fun place. Leather welcome.
Friendly staff, gluten free ciders and great patio
Enjoy hanging out with friends
Might indeed be the last true gay bar in New Orleans!!!! Thank god!!!!

I love this place. Great prices for drinks, wonderful bartenders and an atmosphere worth experiencing. Bring cash. No credit cards accepted.
Great place
Given the good reviews, we went there twice. Fairly dirty bar reserved for an elderly clientele. We go to other nicer bars. On the other hand, the store is nice.
