I was in Pittsburgh for a day trip with my daughter and I must admit I did the “touristy” thing and looked up to see if any diner drives in and dives stop were near me. After asking a few locals they confirmed that I had to try the fish sandwich here. Upon our arrival parking was very close which j appreciate. The waitress greeted up warmly and said we could sit wherever. The food itself was ok but the reason for the lack of stars is the atmosphere itself. The place is in need of a deep cleaning and new lighting. While I’m sure it was different when Guy Fieri came here years ago what I experienced was very last luster.

Forgive the photo of the pierogi, I forgot to take one until we were half through eating it. Well this is definitely a little dive bar, it has that stale smell with a hint of cigarette smoke, the seats in the booths have seen better days, when you sit down you sink down in the middle. But we knew this was a dive before we went there, we went there for the pierogies. The jalapeno cheese pierogi was good, it was huge, thick dough, fried light brown and there was so much filling, the flavor of the filling was decent there was a lot of jalapeno pieces in it, the texture of the filling was not the smoothest. But it was just a pretty decent homemade pierogi. The potato and cheese pierogi was not impressive, the filling was bland and flavorless. We tried most of the places on Pittsburghs top 10 pierogi list and we both agreed that forgotten pierogies and Dorothy 6 were the best.

Knowing it’s a Lenten Friday, I called at 4:20 pm and placed an order for pierogies to be picked up. I was told “Hmmm, that will be an hour.” I thought that was excessive, but okay. I visited my brother until 5:10 a few minutes away. I walk-in and was promptly ignored for 10-15 minutes as dining in people who arrived well after me were seated and given drinks. One waitress asked if I’m there for a pickup order. (Yes). More time. I was asked by a second waitress if I had two takeout orders for pierogies (Yes) she continued that it would be a few minutes as they were finished with one order and getting ti the other one. Then 5 more minutes later I’m told by another waitress that I’ll need to wait until a little after 6:00 pm. It was clear to me that my order was given to others. A second order may have been also given to someone else. At that point I simply left. IT WILL BE A COLD DAY IN HELL BEFORE I GO THERE AGAIN. Let’s face it. An easy order was horribly and poorly handled. No attempt was offered to make things right. It was clearly presented to me that it was my fault for the mixup. It’s been a long time since I’ve had my time casually used up by such a group of confused and passively rude individuals. Do yourself a favor and head elsewhere.

Soon as we walked it the place smelled like a memory from both mine and my friends childhoods that instantly made us relax in our seats at this little place, we got ourselves some tea and that in itself was deliciously home brewed. While we waited for our food we watched as the members of tonights blue grass live jam came in and listened to them play as we ate, which again brought waves of nostalgia and comfort as I myself am from west Virginia. The food was amazing and I am still thinking about it 2 weeks later! Some of if not the best sourkout i have had since my mom used to make it down home in the crock pot. With portion sizes and a price you cant beat, I would recommend this place to anyone!

The food is amazing! I ordered the 3 pierogi platter not realizing they are the size of baseballs! They came with applesauce and just enough butt and onions. I will definitely be going back. Its not so bad that I wont go back. I loved it 😍

If you havent been to this place you need to go there. The portion sizes are enough to feed two people and it is delicious. They are not kidding about the pierogies being the greatest in the world. My friend and I preferred the spinach and feta one to the cheese and jalapeno. The fish tastes fresh. We both got a version of fried fish that was crispy and delicious. Also side note the coleslaw is very good and so was a French fries. I also had the French onion soup which was good. The way staff was amazing and checked on you regularly. There is a little bit of a wait time between placing your order and getting your food, but they have machines and TVs to interact with until your feet arrives. It is worth the wait though.

WORST restaurant experience of my life. After an hour of waiting for our food, we asked what the delay was. The waitress said that the owner went on vacation and they were a little short staffed. OK, but then after another 25 minutes of waiting, we asked when our food was going to be served. We were told maybe in 20 minutes since the to-go orders were prioritized and we kept getting pushed to the bottom of the list (all excuses and unapologetic). Needless to say, we left without eating.Perhaps they arent interested in serving out-of-town guests.Shame on you Starlite Lounge - you should be embarrassed.

This bar/restaurant has delicious food! The fish sandwich is huge and their homemade pierogies are to die for. Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive Ins and Dives even visited here to check them out. My boyfriend and I come here every Friday because in addition to the food, they have a band play every Friday. And because many of the same people come to hear the band every Friday, you get to know everyone. It has a sort of Cheers atmosphere. If you’re ever in the neighborhood, stop by for a bite to eat. Arrived with a party of several. Food was delivered in waves, with around five minutes between wave. Every person at our table did not receive their food until eighty minutes after we had all ordered. Two in our party ended up taking theirs to-go and left as soon as it was delivered. At times, I had difficulty hearing those around me due to a loud singer in the other room, who was also singing on top of music playing on the radio. The food itself was good. I don’t blame the waiting or kitchen staff on the long wait—they were clearly short-staffed, something I blame on the management, who probably don’t pay well and so aren’t getting many job applications.

On Fridays during Lent, it is my favorite place for fish. Their fried fish sandwich is incredible. No other one around compares to it. The side of stewed tomatoes is really good.
