If youre looking for the local dive bar, this is it. Regulars lined up at the bar, cheap drinks, smells like a bar with history. Theres also an open air rooftop thats nice and quiet in the summer. Bartenders are friendly and pour generously. Informal, casual, cheap, classic. We stop in every so often after work for cheap beer and people watching.

I’m pretty sure I gave the bartender$20 and got no change back for two captain cokes. . I asked him about it and he went to the till and pulled out a $10 and he said that’s what I gave him. He could have pulled my $20 out just as easy I only had $20 dollar bills on me. . Any ways. The floors were very sticky. Probably have not been mopped for a few days. Bar tender was more interested in dancing with the girl behind the bar instead of making drinks. Went up stairs and the prices were more.

Cool and unique bar but the bouncer was such a buzzkill. Don’t expect to come here to have a fun time, they will just shoot it down. Hey we are gonna host music, but we will yell at the performers for playing anything more than slow beat and get mad at you if you do anything more than slow side to side dance. Oh and you can’t do this and that.

Was on a date. We had a couple of drinks and then left because it was a bit crowded, but overall atmosphere seemed pretty chill. Id go there again and recommend.

Three floors of great entertainment, drinks, and atmosphere. 10/10 highly recommend you check it out!

Its not the Kathies it once was. Idk somehow just doesnt feel the welcoming spot it used to be. Glad theyre sticking it out tho.

Went to Kathys to enjoy the outdoor deck. Bar was not crowded on a Sun afternoon. We werent acknowledged and had to find our way to access the outdoor deck. The bartender seemed busy entertaining his friends at the bar. There wasnt any signage that youd have to get your drinks before going up. We tried coming back down, but the elevator wasnt working properly. We finally got it to work by hitting level zero and it finally got us back to level one. We were so frustrated and disappointed we just left. Again, no acknowledgment from the staff member before we walked out. Unless youre a friend of this particular bartender, Id encourage you not to waste your time. We really were looking forward to it.

Terrible service. Don’t bother if you aren’t a regular. So unfriendly. Happily went around the corner to another establishment.

Classic dive bar, reasonable drinks and friendly staff. I didnt eat here, just went for drinks. Their was a fairly strong sewer odor in the front of the bar but wasnt noticeable in the back. Not sure where that was coming from, maybe a city problem.

Hadnt been out with my Love in quite a while we went to an old favorite and its still a favorite. We had a blast. Played some pool, had some drinks, danced a little. 3 levels with a slightly different atmosphere on each. Definitely a mixed crowd. The drinks were made well!

Was having a great time until the bartender commented on the tip that was left. Trust me, if he would’ve been more personable or came to our table, he would’ve gotten a better tip, but we tipped accordingly per the drinks that were ordered. Would I stop here again? Probably not.

Used to go here every now and then to see live bands all they way back when it was Ottos, then Kathys. In town recently and thought I’d stop back for a beer with my friends. Some door guy on a power trip denied entry because my license had expired. I’m in my 50s with a gray beard! Been all around the world in different establishments for 30 years and this kid thinks I’m below drinking age, That’s ok cause they’ll never see a dime from me ever again.

Typical dark pub atmosphere, surrounded by large tvs with sports on. Darts, pool, cold beer on tap, open til 2 am every 🌙.

A good atmosphere and fun place to drink and have fun with friends. Love the rooftop area although its the only big bar downtown now and gets very crowded. Prices are decent and a lot of drink options.

You go to Kathys to drink and hang out with friends. No frills nothing crazy no fancy drinks. Just a awesome please to be when youre in the mood to go to the barn

Good bar, younger crowd at night

The lighting was very dark. Lots of cobbwebs up in the front corner. At the time we got there, nobody was friendly at all. I said high to all of them tried to have conversation and nothing. The night bartender came on and had a personality.

Avoid at all costs. Smells like sewage, staff is horrible, clientele are the worst.

Kathy is the bestie. I met another guy earlier in the day and he complained that it smells like a urinal cake in there so i went to check it out and he was exactly right. But a fun place once you get over it. Super fun people and the staff is so so.

Great local bar, love it. Come down and get messed up. This place is great.

A terrible place to go for nightlife. The place is packed wall-to-wall with terrible, rude, obnoxious twenty-somethings, the atmosphere always feels like youre about ten seconds away from getting in a fight with some random a-hole, theres nowhere to sit, and even if there was, the people next to you probably arent gonna be people you want next to you. They used to have bands on the weekends, but the cheapskate owner refused to pay em a little more during the Covid nonsense, so they just decided to never have bands again.Id honestly rather have a colonoscopy every weekend than step foot in this place, much less give em my hard-earned money.

Probably the best bar in downtown Rochester if youre looking for a place to have some cheap drinks and hear live music. For sure not the classiest establishment but you get what you pay for. They also have a really cool rooftop in the warmer months. The only inexpensive place I really will go to downtown.

So, it wasnt exactly bad going here, but I wouldnt go out of my way to go back. Its a more change of scene before going to the actual bar type of place. It has a lot of wasted potential. They have 3 floors. The top is the roof and has a bar area, which is cool.The middle has pool tables and a little bar. The bottom has a bar and a stage for local bands.The service was a little teeny bit slow. But the place was really, really messy and sticky.

Best part about this place is theyre still open late lol. Pretty much nothing else in Rochester is. Dive bar, expect some sticky floors and cheap drinks. Rooftop is cool when its open. Definitely worth stopping in and seeing if it is your vibe

Roof top was super casual. The regulars playing pool were super friendly. Joe the bartender was great and Ill be back for late night fun soon!

Great spot in town to catch a live local band, have a drink after work, and not pay out the ears for it. Essentially a cheaper less dance-y bar compared to others around it. The shows on the roof in the summer are my favorite though, and very much worth checking. About as much of a bar as as bar can be.

Good downtown location Still a great place for music and drinks but honestly, not like when Kathy owned it. Rooftop (both stairs & elevator access) is beautiful and comfortable if youre lucky enough to find seating. Theres almost always only 2 bartenders at each bar (now only 2, 2nd floor is wasted space now) on busy Friday & Saturday nights in my experience, so you may have a good wait for drinks. Was given a warm can of beer, literally warm to the touch... bartender was not impressed that I preferred a cold one and she gave attitude when I nicely asked for a cold one.Darts & pool Sunday thru ThursdayP.S. Favorite part about Kathys is they let just about anyone in , even if you are 16. 17 , its fine ,the younger the better in their opinion 🥳 yall can even fight and theyll just make you go home for the night . theyll only ban you for small things if they dont like you . so juss stay on their good side ya feel me 😏 I think my absolute favorite thing about this place tho is watching the minors who cant handle their alcohol being carried out of the bar 😊😊😊 Kathys a winner for sure . make sure yall visit 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Ive never had a tap beer smell and taste so bad. Clean your tap lines! The place smells like salty garbage. Never going back. Take my advice.. stay far away.

Its a classic bar, nothing fancy but its fun. Regular spot for Rochester locals, so you feel like youre walking into Cheers or something. Drinks are cheap with a wide selection. My only real issue is the layout & how crowded it gets makes it kinda claustrophobic

This place has been around for a long time never gets old! Always enjoy all 3 floors shoot some pool, darks, pool tabs and free popcorn 🍿! The atmosphere is great especially the rooftop drinks and even some pizza 😉

They dont serve food. Its a nice little bar would go back again.

We asked the question wheres there a dive bar around here? At the previous brewery we visited, and we got what we asked for at Kathys! 16oz silos of Busch light, loud music and a pool table! Its not a fancy place but it was exactly what we were looking for

Been going here for years. Bartenders are awesome, quick fast, they know their job, u can go on the rooftop,they got live bands, watch a game,, play darts, or just meet some cool people,, i go by when Im in the area.

They do not care about their customers. They let the bar & hallways get extremely packed. Hope there is never a stampede or fire. There will be many injuries & poss death.

The floor is always sticky, the bathrooms are gross, and its very crowded most of the time. The rooftop bar is amazing in the summer and there are 3 levels. I avoid the first level at all costs. There is usually live music here. The second level isnt always open but they tend to do smaller EDM type shows sometimes. The rooftop will have Jazz or more mellow live bands. One time a guy peed next to me in the elevator on the way up.

There are actual good looking grown up mature women at this Bar every Friday and Saturday night. So I guess Ill just come out and say it~~~if your a person looking for a potential hook~up or maybe looking too get married and, and, and youre not a douch or um... Well I thinI made my point there but yeah chances of getting together with someone for a friendly after bar rendezvous Weatherby go get something to eat or just go for a walk down the river. Its a cool place.

When visiting Rochester I always make it a priority to stop here! Alot of old memories and look forward to making new ones here. If you like the authentic street bar feel, this is the place for you. Have had nothing but friendly experiences with the owners and staff. Reasonable prices and adequate pours with the spirits. Hands down my Rochester favorite.OH yea, I must add GRETCHEN!

Love the rooftop and 2nd floor. First floor is not really my scene but many people I know that like to watch the live bands love it. On the rooftop on weekends is gets really busy and there is defiantly a shortage of bathrooms.

Used to be a frequent visitor in my younger days, but the horrible jam bands they like to book for weekend entertainment, is enough to keep me away. Now my only reason to stop in is if friends wanna stop in for 1, otherwise, having to listen to stoner jam bands is an excellent reason for me to avoid the fine establishment.

Walked in and got IDd by the bouncer. No big deal. Took two more steps and got IDd a second time. I asked if there was a problem and the girl just rolled her eyes at me. Not only is this place out dated and full of people older than my grandparents, but they inconvenienced me and I will not go back.

Kathys is a great bar in Rochester, MN. Staff is friendly and accommodating to all customers. Gretchen is a fantastic bartender and makes everyone feel welcome! Rooftop Bar is awesome during the warmer months.

The people working at the door are very racist, unprofessional. Worst place to go here in Rochester Minnesota.. will never recommend not even to my worst enemy👎

I have been a customer of kathys for over 20 years. Tonight I experienced the most disrespectful display towards a very regular customer and others I have ever experienced by the bar tender. I will bring this event to the attention of the manager on duty next time I visit

I love Kathys. Perfect dive bar, good place to catch some live music, and the rooftop is nice in the summer. A staple in downtown Rochester.

Its an odd bar. Part dive bar feel part hipster roof top bar. Not sure what its trying to be. However they staff is nice and drinks are poured adequately.

Standard kind of pub. Reasonable drink prices, fun bartenders. Not pretentious like a lot of the other drinking establishments downtown. Bar pizza and free peanuts.

Bored in your hotel room? Kathys has more of and adult crowd and always lively . Live music on weekends too. ..oh and really good pizza!

Good atmosphere, good service. If you wanna meet new people I suggest going at night on the weekend. Otherwise the day is nice, people leave you alone.

Always the go to bar in Rochester. It is a bit unclean I guess but than again it is a bar... live music often which gives Kathys pub a good vibe. Great bartenders!

Fun dive bar, Great bartenders, 3 levels of bar, first floor has good live music, 2nd floor is dark with a bar and sometimes has djs and a dance floor, and roof top had a bar and a fun view of the Rochester sky line - be aware that this is on the weekends and that during the week its just a typical dive bar with its five regular patrons

Website clearly celebrates 2 for 1 happy hour but alas not true.......In fact...I was told no happy hour at all....very true....not a happy hour was spent here.....😡

Summertime on the rooftop bar cant be beat! Weekends can get a bit crowded at night, but that can be blamed on its popularity more than anything else.

Sat for 34 minutes and no one came to see if I needs something to drink. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Would of given them a 0 stars but wouldnt let me.

Admittedly the rooftop bar is fairly cool, but the rest of the bar is pretty average, and usually dirty. Just average overall.
