I enjoyed an 80-minute massage with Scott. It can only be described as perfect. He found the areas that needed extra attention, asked for feedback to ensure the pressure was what I needed and worked hard for the entire time. It was so luxurious. Then I enjoyed the sauna, incredible shower and lounge area. Bring a book and enjoy the peace + tranquility at A+C!

Experience was perfect from start to finish. Lovely staff. Massage with Liz was great, I could tell she was actually focusing on what my body needed not just going through the motions. Was very nice to be able to relax after in the sanctuary room, brought my book and enjoyed a cup of tea, curled up in their very comfortable robes. Next time I’ll choose a weekend day so I can fully enjoy the sauna and showers.

I’ve had such a great experience at Ape + Canary so far! The staff is wonderful and the space itself is so comfortable, welcoming and relaxing. I have especially loved getting my nails done by Melody. I always get so many compliments on my nails! The membership is well worth it, and I would highly recommend Ape + Canary.

A+C is truly my happy place. I always take advantage of the sanctuary space and have some tea or water and just unwind. The waterfall showers are amazing and the services I receive are nothing short of magical. Thank you so much for being my calm space where I feel cared for!

The best spa experience I have ever had. I got a couples massage with my partner & we both will definitely be back. Both heavily considering buying the membership. Would 10/10 recommend to the people I love most. From now on will be asking exclusively for gifts cards to ape + canary for all future holidays. Im 25 & that was the best Saturday night Ive had in a while. Bravo.

Have been getting my hair cut and styled for the past couple years. Staff are welcoming and cater to your needs upon arrival. Enjoy getting to my appointments early so I can use the locker room sauna and shower beforehand. Waiting rooms are peaceful and have a good selection of drinks. Lead stylists Ben and Colleen are masters at their craft and have great chemistry. Always leave feeling fresh and reborn. Overall, highly recommend this salon and spa as one of the best Rochester has to offer.

I had an escape package here and it was lovely. The space is really inviting the sanctuary was especially cozy.I had a massage with Sam and he was wonderful. I went in with a pulled muscle in my back and he was very attentive to that area. Finally felt some relief the next day after days of decreased mobility and pain.Adrijana did my facial and it was the most relaxing one I have ever had. My skin looked amazing after and I felt even better.I finished my time with a pedicure by Melody who was very detailed and a joy to talk to!I can’t wait to return!

I visited your spa last Saturday for a package (facial, massage, pedicure). The facial was amazing, the girl was really respectful and kind. The massage was questionable with Collin. I thought the basic rules for massage was not to talk about the flaws of a client. During this massage I was asked if I had Scoliosis because one shoulder sat lower than the other, I was asked if I ever had knee surgery due a large scar that I got falling down when I was a teenager, if I had moles removed on my back as he noticed a suture. He asked me because my back was so tight if I stand on one foot. All of these things that he was pointing out about my body did not help me with relaxing which was my goal for this massage because I became self conscious and it’s all I could think about. I don’t typically talk at all during a massage but I felt like I had to respond to the questions. He was a very nice gentleman, however I would not go to him again. Honestly I would never have picked a male to begin with but I was never asked a preference when I called to schedule. The pedicure was okay, she seemed very rushed during it but I did ask her to help me open my locker as it was jammed which set us back a couple of minutes so that might have been my fault. At the end she did not have time to walk me back to the sanctuary as she said she had to set up for her next client. She just seemed very agitated/rushed the whole time. Overall I would like to come back for a facial in the future but not sure about anything else for services based on this experience. I spent over $400 that day and it wasn’t great. I don’t want anyone to get in trouble, I just wanted to voice my opinion.

Always a pleasant experience at Ape and Canary. Benn has been doing my hair for years. I have tried facials with Madilyn and there fantastic as well. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. I would encourage anyone to try it once! Great job guys.

Absolutely incredible experience! You are brought in and it feels like a vacation experience packed into 90 minutes. The staff are so kind and generous. You are given snacks and comfortable robes and drinks and you have a great time while you are there. The masseuses are excellent at their job and respectful. Facilities are spotless and make you feel at home. Can’t wait to go back!

I go to Ape & Canary to get my hair cut and colored by Angela. She has been my go-to stylist for years now. Angela always greets me with warmth and professionalism, making me feel comfortable. She takes the time to listen to my hair concerns and desires, offering valuable insights and recommendations.My hair used to have a lot of breakage and damage. Angela helped me restore my hair. Now it’s healthiest it’s ever been! She also recommended the perfect cut to make my fine hair look thick.Her expertise is evident throughout the entire process. From the cut to the color, every detail is executed flawlessly. I just went to Ape + Canary for my first experience and it was wonderful. I had my hair cut and styled by Angela, and she was absolutely amazing. I immediately booked and eyebrow wax in 3 days and another haircut in 3 months. Highly recommend!

Ape + Canary is fantastic! Ive gone there for manicures, hair coloring/cuts, and recently a lash lift and brow tint. The service is consistently excellent, and the staff is knowledgeable and caring. The atmosphere is calm and enjoyable, making it a perfect spot for self-care. Highly recommend!

I will never go anywhere else for a massage but ape & canary. Scott delivers a calm experience while giving the best deep tissue I could ask for. The sanctuary is calming and the locker rooms are clean & have everything you could need.

I’m obsessed with my time I get with Angela! Best atmosphere, I leave feeling amazing, but also educated! Angela will make sure you leave looking and feeling great, but also understanding what and why she does what she does, and she’ll also teach and train you to treat it yourself at home. I don’t write reviews often, but my first time experience at Ape+Canary was really great and deserves five stars. Jack was very professional and did a great job cutting/styling my hair. I will definitely be going back!

Do not recommend. This place is beautiful but the customer service is awful. When I attempted to schedule an appointment for partial highlights, the coordinator told me they would confirm that 4:30pm was a manageable time for a visit since it would be closer to their closing time. When confirmed (they texted me and had me provide pictures of current status of hair) I was told I was all set but when I arrived, I was sitting for 15 minutes and was told that in order to do the appointment, it would have to be scheduled another time since they were going to be closing soon. I then mentioned that I was told otherwise and offered a service which was overpriced for less work than what I came there for. Very unprofessional service cashing me to walk out.

I had a facial and it was amazing! I will definitely be going back. The sanctuary room is so relaxing and everything was very clean! Even received a complimentary chocolate and glass of wine which was a wonderful surprise!

UPDATE: as expected, our wedding day went perfectly. Madelyn did an incredible job with our makeup. We didn’t have issues with it until the end of the night, despite being applied first thing in the morning!! Jack did my wife’s hair and it was so elegant and beautiful! A+C is a super convenient spot to get your hair/makeup done for any event + bonus points if you’re staying at the Strath right across the street!My fiancée and I came for a makeup trial and Madelyn KILLLLLED it. It was a very cozy and fun experience and she asked us throughout for honest feedback, giving us every opportunity to look exactly like we wanted to. It was hard to give feedback because at every single step, it was perfection. We can’t wait to return on our wedding day!! :)

Ive gotten several massages here - Jeanne and Liz are both wonderful, and I always leave feeling very relaxed. I do wish the hair salon wasnt right above the rooms, though, as sometimes the sound of footsteps can be heard.

My hair stylist was Jack and it was a wonderful experience. He took time at the beginning to get on the same page as me and was very helpful in communicating what I wanted. Overall a great experience and I can’t wait to go back in 8 weeks!

Colin did a wonderful job on my deep tissue massage. Really relaxed the tension in my neck! Also very attentive and checking with me throughout to make sure he was doing what I wanted and I was comfortable!

A lot of places call themselves spas in Rochester but have all the atmosphere of a hairdresser or tanning salon. This place really does feel like a oasis in the city. Everything went smoothly and Scott gave my self and my wife an excellent massage (I work in rehab and give massages so I know when someone is doing a good job) I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone!

I had kind of a weird request, for a long needed root touch up, while in town visiting from elsewhere. Jack and the salon staff made the whole experience seamless and I’m very happy with my color. I would definitely rebook if I am in town again.

Christina Poma cut, colored and styled my hair. She’s very knowledgeable of picking a perfect color scheme, given my complexion and desires. My hair is the perfect color to finish off the summer and enter into the fall. It’s obvious she cares about her clients and works to the highest level. Thank you!

Every time I spend time at my spa (I feel so bougie saying that) I leave feeling refreshed and at peace. So much of my life is spent in high stress situations, my monthly trips to Ape + Canary have become a necessity. I absolutely loved my experience at the Ape + Canary !For starters my facial (express facial with dermaplanig) with Sherry had me glowing afterwards, you can really tell the way she moved her hands that she loves her job. (no pun intended) Hands down the best facial I have ever had! You will not be disappointed very knowledgeable and made me feel so comfortable ( PS the products they use work wonders). Secondly i had an AMAZING massage with Liz, she has amazing hands and educated me on what she could tell was going on with my body. Not the average salon massage therapist at all, she listened to me and worked her magic. Im so very thankful for such a great experience!Another highlight was the couch in the sanctuary OMG amazing and so relaxing.Was the perfect place to relax between appointments along with the awesome hot sauna! All of staff was amazing ALL of them i love when customer service is this excellent! I live in Colorado but next time im in Rochester i will defiantly be back!

AMAZING experience here! From the robes and sandals, to the extra attention to detail. The staff is all so kind. Extra heating pads during the massage, chocolate and water at the end. The amenities in the bathroom for washing up afterwards. Everything was amazing! Karisa was especially amazing and provided exactly what I needed and envisioned when I booked a relaxation massage! 1000/10 recommend and will be back!

This was my second time at the spa. I received a dermaplaning facial. Loved it and Madelyn made me comfortable and explained what the service was thoroughly before starting. My face was glowing afterwards.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful side by side massage by Collin and Samuel. Both were attentive of our individual needs, professional, and provided great advice for future body care.

Melody did my nails and I couldn’t be happier! After a lifetime of acrylics my natural nails needed serious repair she made them look so beautiful and healthy I am very impressed I already booked a follow up with her. On top of doing a great job she is also just wonderful to be around, I highly recommend booking with her!

Wonderful, stunning, gorgeous. I had a deep tissue massage with Josh and it may very well have been the best massage I’ve ever had. I used to book Cranio Sacral Therapy through another spa, and I actually found that Josh incorporated many of these techniques during the deep tissue massage. I appreciate how Josh evaluated my individual needs and tailored a massage to provide relief and rebalance - not all massage therapists are created equal, and Josh is a step above the rest. Angela in the salon is fantastic. She was able to salvage a butchered cut from a different salon into something I loved and then was able to get me to the cut I originally wanted after it grew out. Highly recommend!

I suffer from 3 chronic life-long illnesses and saw Samual for a massage before I have a surgical procedure Monday. He was so attentive and made special accommodations to ensure my comfort. I feel amazing and he even found a nerve in my neck that was triggering migraines. I feel like a whole new person after that massage. I enjoyed some complimentary tea (also have coffee &waters) after, along with some time in the free sauna (with any purchase) and then showered and helped myself to free products (spray deodorant, lotion, Q-tips, mouthwash, hair products etc) honestly didn’t even know places like this existed in Rochester and will definitely be back- considering a membership!

Jack knew exactly how I wanted my hair to look. The blow-out was perfect. I also appreciated the last minute availability; I lucked out! Such a lovely location, too, in this historic building.

I have never had a bad spa experience here. All my massages and facials have been wonderful. Customer service is great. Sam was particularly helpful during this visit as far as focusing on where I was having pain and giving me stretches to try at home.

I absolutely love this salon and spa. Ive been a member at Ape & Canary since 2020, Ive booked nails, hair, spa services, etc and I am often hard pressed to find a comparable business.Their prices are competitive with Woodcliff, Del Monte, etc, their technicians, therapists and stylists are amazing, and the sanctuary is perfect. I love all of the amenities the spa has to offer, including snacks, beverages, waterfall showers, sauna, and the coziest giant couch youve ever seen.Whenever I have a date with a friend, or when my moms in town, or when my husband and I just need a day to unwind, A&C is at the top of my to do list.A couple of shout outs - Marlaina is awesome with hair, I love what shes done with my color and cuts, Gabby is amazing with nails, my husband loves going to Josh for his massages, and I love going to Christina and Madelyn for facials. My mom swears by Liz for her massages and I had a great massage with Scott!

Angela Johnson is absolutely amazing!! I have been getting my curly hair cut and colored by her for 2 years and followed her from her previous salon. The entire salon and spa is beautiful and a wonderful atmosphere but Angela is the reason I keep going back. If you need a curly cut or just a cut in general I 10/10 recommend!!

Heard about it from a friend of a friend. And for never having had a massage before, it truly was a amazing first time experience for me and my signifigant other. Beautiful spa!!! I got a massage which was heavenly - honestly the best massage Ive ever had. The atmosphere is so calm and everyone is so sweet. The pedicure I got was really nice too and the nail tech was soooo friendly and welcoming. If I had to say anything to improve (and this really isnt a complaint at all- just an observation), its that there was no soaking with the pedicure. My feet were in the tub less than a minute before she worked on them, and the foot spas dont have jets which I missed. But still a 5 star experience- thank you!

Very relaxing experience.I had a full body massage( Josh ) it was absolutely amazing. Relaxed after in the sitting room and used the sauna /steam room.Definitely worth every $$ .Definitely will make another appointment.Make sure you arrive early to enjoy the relaxing room.

Been coming here for about a year and signed up for a membership after the first time I was serviced. Always an excellent experience. Susan is always professional and warming, she does my facials about every 6 weeks and my skin is always glowing after I leave the “Bamboo” room.

I was in town for a concert and decided to treat myself a little. I had never heard of this place, nor had ever been to a spa before, but I am very glad I found them. From the moment you walk through the doors you are ushered into peace, tranquility and compassion. The anesthetic of the building is unmatched. I was given a curly cut by The Curl Whisperer Angela, and it was truly amazing. I had never played with my curls before, and she gave them the loving attention they sorely needed. The signature facial provided by Madelyn was the highlight of the visit, and set me at ease in a way I had never been before. This truly is a safe space, which I greatly appreciate. Customer service and guest relations are immaculate. All around a very positive experience. I am already planning another trip to Rochester to lose myself for a day in their amazing hands.

All I can say is WOW. Madelyn works wonders, Colleen was one of the most fun people to talk to I’ve ever met, and she does great work. Karisa makes you feel incredibly comfortable at all times. Overall a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it.

I love going there! Ive been a member for a while and its always fun to go there! Jack and Melody get a special shoutout for being AMAZING and always giving me the best nails and haircuts! I totally recommend everyone going there and signing up for their memberships.

I was traveling to Rochester for a business trip and didnt have time to get a pedicure before leaving. I knew I would be wearing sandals so I was a bit desperate to find a salon. Luckily Ape & Canary was close to my hotel, and I was able to make an appointment online easily. My experience was excellent - the ambiance was calm and relaxing. And my pedicure...oh my. One of the best Ive received. The technician took her time to make the polish look perfect. I highly recommend Ape & Canary.

Always a great experience. I get massages with Josh and facials with Madelyn - they’re the best. Also, the product selection is great - I’ve been using the keratin shampoo and conditioner since getting samples when becoming a member and my hair is in its best condition. 10/10 for a self care spa day!

The beautiful, simple decor was relaxing from the moment we walked in. It had been forever since I’d had a massage, had almost forgotten how wonderful they are. I don’t like deep, hard massages and my massage therapist listened carefully and provided exactly the level of pressure that felt healing to me. 50 minutes is way too short, next time will go for 80 minutes! Afterwards, my friend and I relaxed in the sauna. I didn’t have time to enjoy the waterfall shower, but people going to Ape+Canary should be sure to find the time to enjoy all the little pleasures that surround the massage treatment. Overall, a wonderful experience!

From sometime during the pandemic... Liz and Susan really know how to treat a girl on her birthday!!! Liz put me to sleep with her deep tissue massage and Susan made my skin glow! Both of them were lovely! And the spa itself is so cute and relaxing! Ill be back!!!Went back again on my birthday in 2024. Had a simple pedicure with Andrijana and deep tissue massage with Josh. Why I waited so long to return is beyond me. I love this place. I enjoyed both of them and everyone else I engaged with in passing or on the phone have been wonderful. Ive been seriously considering buying into the monthly membership after my last visit.

My friend and I got pedicures with Adrijana and Melody. They were absolutely amazing and both were friendly and made us feel very comfortable.

Angela is my Hairapist. She took my look to the next level. Not only is she talented, timely, appropriately priced but also very trained. She worked hard to get this good. Ape and Canary is lucky to have her skills and she matches the high quality Ape and Canary offers. Ape and Canary is clean, highly detail oriented, easy to work with and feels luxury. Anyone with curls should go to Angela at Ape and Canary for curl treatment. My hair has never been so happy.

I had an 80 min Deep Tissue Massage with Josh and, it was amazing. It was my first time going to this spa and everything from checking in to checking out was perfect. I should have arrived earlier because their sanctuary is warm, cozy and relaxing and, I would have wanted to relax longer before my massage. The staff from start to finish was very friendly and knowledgeable. The sauna is fantastic as is the shower. The only think I wish they had was makeup remover. Other than that, it was fantastic and I’ll definitely go back

What an amazing mother daughter day my mom and I had together. Christina gave me the best facial I’ve ever had and I got my first deep tissue massage by Kevin which was absolutely incredible. The sanctuary waiting room was so relaxing - there was water, coffee, tea, and snacks! We also were given a glass of wine to enjoy while we waited! What a perfect day spent at Ape + Canary! This was our first time visiting but won’t be our last!

I dont mind paying more for luxury. I relocated from California last year and wanted to find my new go to spa. So I compared Ape & Canary with Del Monte for wax services. I booked first at Ape & Canary and honestly Loved it. I booked second at Del Monte and honestly Loved it too! Heres my take away. Both are Estetically pleasing and have comparable amenities. I like that I can grab lunch and a cocktail after my services at The Del Monte because they have a nice restaurant there. I like the coziness and less corporate feel of Ape & Canary. I mainly go to spa twice a month for wax and the ocassional facial or massage. The Wax services at Ape & Canary are way overpriced even with the member discount. For example, if I booked TWICE a month at Ape & Canary for an armpit wax and full legs wax it would roughly cost me $400 per month. $400 includes 20% tip and the 20% membership discount. Comparatively, TWICE a month for same wax services, armpit and full legs At Del Monte, it would roughly be $312 per month without a recurring $75 membership fee. I like the coziness feel of Ape and Canary but I dont want to pay $75 per month to get the average cost for luxury spa services. Id like to see Ape & Canary offer a membership discount without the extra high cost. I think this will give them a competitive advantage and win me back!

Ape and Canary is a top notch spa. The staff is incredible and always so accommodating. The waterfall shower is heavenly, as is the sauna. The facials that I have had (face life and signature) have been amazing and so relaxing. I always leave feeling like I’m glowing! I had my hair done with Colleen and it was the best hair cut + color I have ever had. Ape and Canary is a spa that I would recommend to anyone!!

This was my second time to Ape + Canary and, oh my goodness, they do not disappoint! This visit was with one of my bridesmaids who flew in from Colorado for my big day. We had a lovely time decompressing in the sanctuary and had the best deep tissue massages. This was exactly what we needed before my big day. Im thankful that I was able to spend some quality time with one of my best gals doing what we do best.

This was the best massage I’ve ever had. The masseuse could identify some trouble areas in my back without me even telling him. He even offers some good suggestions for stretching that could alleviate future strain. Definitely give Ape + Canary a try.

The therapist and esthetician were amazing! However, I feel bad for both of them because the receptionist didn’t check me in correctly, even with getting there 25 minutes early. She called me while I was waiting in the waiting room, wondering where I was. The therapist was 15 min late to get started due to this, which cut one of my two sessions short. The owner and/or manager said he would give me a percentage off my services and didn’t follow through. I hadn’t noticed until I received my receipt that he didn’t grant both discounts and he didn’t give the percent tip I had requested to the therapist. Very disappointed.

I used Ape & Canary to treat my two sisters for a surprise spa day for Christmas. They are both new moms and they needed a moment to relax while they were kid free for the day.My sisters got pedicure and massage each. They have not stopped talking about their experience. They have been planning their next trip and making sure they have massages booked and toes ready to go. I came to pick them up and they were relaxing in robes living their best lives. It is a luxury spa so it is pricey but I think the experience is appropriately priced. The staff were wonderful and everyone was friendly. Great experience!

Ladies were lovely but the gel mani i had was below average :( the prices are comparable to other spas in the area but it looked like it was something my daughter painted. Next time just going to my local name place

My experience was magnificent from the moment that I walked into the door! The inside decor is quite beautiful and charming, the front desk host was very welcoming, my massage therapist was darling and even shared some facts about the building with me. Overall, my service was absolutely on target (she got into the right spots in my back and neck) and the vibe was very peaceful. I will be back!

Easy to find, plenty of parking, and a pleasant atmosphere. I had worked with my stylist previously, at another salon, so am pleased they’ve moved to Ape + Canary. My stylist does a good job of communicating, giving input into what might be flattering to my features, and how to take care of my curls. They also are caring and create a safe place for wellness too!

I love the salon and spa, and have been a customer for a long time (5+ years). The location is perfect, right in the city in a lovely area and the building itself is outfitted beautifully and is so cozy. Paul and Ben, the owners, are wonderful people who remember their clients by name and are kind, respectful, and accommodating. Special shout outs to Cory, who has been doing my hair for years and is an absolute blast to chat with, and Madelyn, who is a bit newer, but does an amazing job with my facials.Additionally, I had my wedding party hair and make up done at A+C and we had a wonderful time and everyone looked beautiful!

Liz is a fantastic massage therapist and I could not have asked for a better experience. This was my first time having a deep tissue massage. I have been having some back pain and my doctor suggested massage therapy. I really appreciated that Liz explained the techniques she was using, asked questions to get a better understanding of what I needed, and coached me through the process. She even gave me tips for things I could do at home. I was able to feel results immediately. I also enjoyed the amenities in the locker room and the very relaxing atmosphere in the waiting room. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

First time going to Ape + Canary and I will be back soon! My only regret is wishing I came sooner! The ambiance is perfect. Jack gave me an amazing cut and style. Highly recommend.

(My true ratting 4.5) APE & Canary is a fantastic place to relax get a facial and massage. I asked for the Wellness Package which is an 80 minute massage and an 80 minute facial. Kevin did an excellent job on my massage. He asked how intense the massage should be and I said medium. He was extremely professional and asked if I had any questions. Now understand that this had been only my third full massage. (It was still topnotch in my book.). Now as for my facial, it was good but not the best I have had. I used to have my facials done every 4 to 6 weeks. The woman, the name slips my memory, that did my facial was extremely friendly and did an adequate job on my facial.The spa, itself, was beautifully maintained and had excellent facilities. Showers, Dry sauna, lockers were a 5 on my rating scale. Their relaxation room (gender neutral area) was very comfortable, as you waited for your service to begin.As an overall rating for my services, I give it a 4.5 stars

I have thick wavy hair that I find difficult to manage and Ben has been able to provide a flattering cut.He also has eye for color and is helping make the transition to gray hair. never disappointed!

My husband gifted me the full wellness package for mothers day and my birthday. I was super excited to kick back and relax and enjoy this generous and sweet gift! I gave four stars because all in all the atmosphere, the massage and the facial was amazing!! I take off one star though because my guy who was scheduled to give me my 80 minute massage was 10 minutes late! So I did not get my full massage. The room was also really bright and it was hard to fully relax. But the massage itself was incredible! At the end though, my masseuse did not know I had an 80 minute facial scheduled right after and so I was a few minutes late to that as well!! I had to rush to get to my next appointment. I was thirsty and did not have time to catch my breath from the amazing massage. It would have been nice to have like 10 minutes in between or something. The facial was amazing and the room was much better. It was a dark room and the woman was so sweet and got me a bottled water before we started. I enjoyed my package, but it could’ve been better in the beginning. I do like the facility and all they have to offer though! It’s a beautiful place and the sanctuary is very warm and relaxing.

I had a great first experience at Ape and Canary. The building is so beautiful and the spaces that they have created are soothing and relaxing. The entire building is super clean and the amenities to make your stay there comfortable are unexpected and appreciated. The staff is all super friendly and knowledgeable. I had one of the best deep tissue massages that completely fixed my neck, shoulders, back, and leg from working from home chair soreness and overdoing it with a home moving project. If you are looking for the best spot in Rochester for a spa experience, then Ape and Canary is your go to spot!

Ive spent the last 20 years in San Francisco - a place notorious for elegant, pricey spas. I was really happy with Ape + Canary. Its in a beautiful old building. Its a large, beautiful spa, with several floors of services.The locker room and waiting room have all the amenities that youd expect. I was very happy with the massage experience. Recommend!

OMG… I found my safe haven. Please come here.. I have been a bit skeptical about coming here due to another place being completely racist and acting as if black women don’t belong there! But it was my birthday and I really needed a good massage.. LIZ got me together.. she took her time and made me feel like I was in heaven!! She told where my tension was. Everyone here was so nice and made me feel so comfortable.. It kind of felt like I was in a real hypnotic..serene..calm environment.. I will definitely be back!!! What a beautiful hideaway escape-gorgeous atmosphere and wonderful staff. I forgot my gift certificate and Shane was extremely friendly and understanding and helped figure out a way for me to prove purchase and still use it. My massage by Josh was absolutely amazing!! I’ve had massages at numerous different spas in the area and I don’t think I’ve had one better than what he offered. The only thing I could really complain about was not having any tea options (only coffee) nor a consistent access to fresh water; however there were small bottles of Poland Spring that hadn’t been replenished yet before my departure.Can’t wait to come back!!

I cannot express my gratitude for the entire staff at Ape + Canary! It was my first time and everything was wonderful, clean, and gorgeous. Karisa was my masseuse and I’ve never been more relaxed than I was during our session together. I was looking for an alternative to Del Monte, and I found it! I loved the infrared sauna with the color-changing option. I also liked that there seemed to be water infused with an aroma to add to the coals. The showers were very large, and I liked that there was a door vs a curtain, so I definitely had privacy. I found the sanctuary very relaxing. I had the signature facial service by Susan. Susan was amazing. She made sure I was relaxed the whole time, and I was very pleased with my skin. The rooms were clean, warm, and comfortable. I loved the vibe. I found the whole atmosphere relaxing, and the services were excellent.

This was the second time my wife was treated shabbily by the front staff after a massage. Her experience was anything but gracious or relaxing. She vowed never to return. Neither will I. Ive been a member for two years and am appalled by the curt manners of the staff. Ill be canceling my membership immediately.

A wonderful spa experience! Probably the best facial I’ve ever received and I’ve tried many different places in the Rochester area, Susan was absolutely amazing!I do wish they had the fruit infused water option that many other spas have but they did have tea and snacks.I also got the signature mani/pedi which was amazing. It’s a little more expensive than your traditional mani/pedi but absolutely worth it. They went above and beyond, a great treat if you want to pamper yourself!

I came to the spa for a massage and left still feeling like I needed a massage. The price did not match the quality of the massage I could have had my 10 year old sister do a better job. Very disappointing experience.

First time at Ape & Canary. My daughter wanted a trim before the school year started and I originally booked her elsewhere. There was a mix up of dates on my end and we ended up needing to find another salon that day as we were going out of town the day after. Ape & Canary was able to get us in the same day with Jack. My little girl absolutely loved her cut and will definitely be returning.

Incredible experience overall!🌟Booking an appointment was easy enough - I called and didn’t get an answer, but the voicemail mentioned doing it online which was a breeze; you register yourself as a client, select dates/times with available aestheticians and immediately get confirmations via email/text. They even returned my missed call to make sure I was all set!The space itself is absolutely gorgeous, both modern and timeless and most importantly, relaxing! I was greeted and helped by multiple staff members, including one of the owners who made sure I was fully aware of the process and all the amenities, being my first time visit. I HIGHLY recommend arriving early to get familiar with the space, change into a comfy robe and enjoy the peace and quiet of the sanctuary, along with the sauna and waterfall showers. Though I didn’t use the sauna this time, the waterfall shower was a dream. They have coffee, tea and small snacks in the sanctuary. I definitely recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated, especially if you are receiving a detoxing treatment or using the sauna. I also brought a book to relax and read in the sanctuary; all valuables can be stored in lockers, and though I couldn’t get mine open the staff was very helpful.I selected the Facelift Facial with Madelyn - I had never had a facial before and she walked me through every step, asked me for my personal preferences and skin concerns/goals, and most importantly gave me a relaxing and restorative treatment! I chose this facial for the multiple facets of it, especially the facial cupping and lymphatic drainage. My skin was literally glowing and SO soft afterwards, and even still a few days later. Madelyn gently recommended some products (in no way “sales-y” or pushy, which I appreciate), including a facial cleanser and moisturizer, for my specific skin type and concerns, and though they were expensive, the quality of the products (Image Skincare) are phenomenal, with natural ingredients and wonderful textures/scents. She wrote down the order of using the products which was super helpful, and I can already tell a difference in my skin switching to these products in my daily routine!The prices are completely worth the level of professionalism, cleanliness, and attention to detail with the services and amenities. Self care is SO important with the constant stressors and toxins we increasingly face in our daily lives. Ape + Canary is a beautiful little escape tucked into the heart of Rochester, and I will absolutely be back again and again!🧖🏼‍♀️👏

This is my first time coming here and will not be the last! The building itself is beautiful! As soon as you enter, you feel instantly relaxed. I made an appointment for a Dazzle Dry manicure with Ryen. She was so nice and accommodating throughout the whole service. She even took me to The Sanctuary after and said I could relax with a cup of tea or coffee. Definitely feels like you are at a mini resort/getaway. All of the staff was very kind and inviting!

She was INCREDIBLE! I have had plenty of massages in my life, but she worked on places that had never been massaged before (upper neck, forearms, soles of my feet). She was so knowledgeable about the body and took the time to explain things to me so I can take even better care of my body between massages. Rachael took great care of me and I am so happy with my manicure and pedicure. I normally cannot afford to have my nails done, but the Spa appointment was a gift from my employer and I am very happy that I decided to go to Ape + Canary to get my nails done. If I get an opportunity to go to Ape + Canary again I definitely will! The facility was beautiful and the staff was very attentive and took great care of me and everyone that I encountered.

My first visit to Ape & Canary was for a massage with Kevin. I showed up 5 minutes before my scheduled time. Next time I will arrive early to use the graciously offered robe and slippers to enjoy the spa lounge area which looked lovely and cozy. The old and nicely remodeled building is outfitted with an elevator which we took to an upper floor where the treatment room was located. The massage itself was excellent, just what I wanted. Again, next time I will plan to relax in the spa lounge after my massage.

Ive had Angela cutting my hair for two years now, and she is a delight to work with and very skilled. The interior is lovely and clean, and everyone Ive spoken to at the front desk have always been friendly and helpful.

Liz did a great hot stone massage. Paid attention to all my sore spots. Sanctuary very nice before and after treatment. Definitely would recommend. A little pricey but worth it.

I recently visited Ape + Canary for the first time with my mom & sister, and we absolutely loved it! We each got a 60 min massage, and all 3 masseuses were amazing! This spa truly excels in every aspect. Each staff member we encountered was knowledgeable, experienced, and professional. The space is beautiful and impeccably clean. They offer robes and sandals for you to wear throughout your stay, beverages available while relaxing in the sanctuary, locker rooms stocked with several products that you may need, and even a little treat in the massage room! Relaxing in the sanctuary was so incredible that we didnt want to leave. If you are looking for a place to relax and be pampered, look no further. Im already looking forward to my next visit!

I visited Ape + Canary for the first time yesterday. The Spa and the staff are warm and welcoming. It is decorated so cute and I was able to sit by the fireplace in a very comfy sanctuary area before my facial appointment. My facial itself was very relaxing. Nichole did a really nice job and is super sweet. There was chocolate and some green tea for me to enjoy when my facial was completed. I was then surprised at checkout with a little bottle of brut and a rose as a special Mothers Day treat too. I would highly recommend Ape + Canary and look forward to returning some time again soon!***UPDATED**** I have visited Ape + Canary two more times since my original review. Once for a pedicure with Casey and once for another facial with Nichole. Both visits were just as exceptional as my first and I look forward to my next visit. Ape + Canary is a perfect place to unwind and treat yourself. Both Casey and Nichole were so sweet and great at what they do!

Cute spa in the city of Rochester. Very small building for a relaxing spa experience. Went on a Friday morning and it was PACKED. Every chair was taken, the bathrooms were constantly full, people were talking loudly in the “sanctuary” and overall it really detracted from the spa experience. The facial was fine, nothing out of the ordinary, the products seemed okay at the time but later caused irritation and bumps on my face. The spa was definitely pushy when trying to get people to buy products.I get wanting to fill the spa, but with the amount of people they have, they need a bigger space, or more spaced out appointments. For the price of a spa facial, I expect a more relaxing environment.Spa was clean, there was coffee and tea in the sanctuary. It’s important to note that the sanctuary is also gender neutral which was unexpected since we are all sitting in just robes.

Best day spa in Rochester.Benn has been cutting, coloring and styling my hair for over 6 years. He saved my wedding 6 years ago by swooping in and taking over my wedding hair when my prior stylist backed out on short notice. I have thick, coarse, unruly hair and he works magic on it every time. I drive 45 min to get my hair done and never consider going anywhere closer.This most recent time I treated myself to a massage with Kayla and it was so worth it! Kayla is gifted at massage and so pleasant. She takes a therapeutic approach, but it was still a relaxing spa experience. I am booked for another massage with Kayla after the holidays and it can’t come soon enough!

So it was my first time there it was a birthday gift from my son for my 50 birthday the first day I went I did not know I had to have a appointment the receptionist that was takeing care of my daughter and I she was not pleasant at she made me feel very uncomfortable I felt lime i was in the wrong place being that I’m Hispanic I felt very uncomfortable but another receptionist came and she made me feel right at home she explained to me how it works there she was polite and nice she made the appointment for us so today I went to my appointment when I was checking out the same female that made me feel uncomfortable the first time I went was there again she was not pleasant again the girls that did my daughter and my pedicure were awsome they were very nice and made us feel comfortable inside the sanctuary is beautiful and very comfortable very clean overall I gave it a 3star because of the receptionist that made me feel like I was in the wrong place like the movie pretty woman

Ive never had a bad experience here, everyone is so polite and kind, the lounge area is incredibly cozy, and the deep tissue massage I had with Kevin recently made me feel like pudding (in the best way).

Our couples massage was relaxed, comfortable, and friendly. The masseurs asked about problem areas ahead of time. They both checked in with us about pressure periodically and made adjustments when needed. Ape + canary is absolutely gorgeous inside. The sanctuary and locker rooms were relaxing while being both elegant and comfortable. The faux candles made it feel so warm and cozy.

First time pedicure with Gabby was excellent! The waiting area was beautiful and relaxing, and she showed me the sanctuary after my service, which was also so beautiful. I rebooked and definitely will be checking out the spa soon!

All the services provided are beyond incredible. In addition, the sense of calm and relaxation you feel just being there is an experience in and of itself. Make sure to arrive early and stay after to enjoy the “sanctuary” and the sauna in the locker rooms. I would highly recommend signing up for the monthly membership. When I walked in I knew this would be a great experience. Its been a long time since I had a deep tissue massage. The Ape + Canary is a high class salon/spa with extremely reasonable prices. I was not disappointed. I was led into the waiting room with soft music and a fireplace. There are saunas and beautiful showers to use if you want to. Absolutely top notch. My masseuse was amazing and hit all the spots I have had trouble with. I was a bowl full of jello when I left and I slept like a baby that night. I am visiting from North Carolina and will be making an appointment for next year when I come back. I highly recommend the Ape + Canary. The staff is very welcoming and kind.

Amazing experience- the space is gorgeous! Loved utilizing the sauna after my massage. Can’t wait to return, probably the most effective massage I’ve ever had! My neck and shoulders haven’t felt this relaxed in years.

Every person who works here is professional, knowledgeable, helpful, kind, and dedicated to their clients. I had a 90 minute deep tissue massage and a 90 minute signature facial. Both were outstanding! I drove two hours to get there…and it was worth every minute. The sanctuary where you relax before and after your service just melts the stress away. I will definitely be going again. I highly recommend this spa. You won’t regret it.

I really enjoyed getting my hair done at Ape + Canary.I loved Christina she was my hairdresser. She was very sweet, and even stayed an hr over to fin up with curling my hair, she did a beautiful job! I have very thick hair, it takes a good 3-4 hrs to highlight my hair. sometimes getting your hair done for that long is tiring, and a pain but she made the time go by pretty quickly and was just very down to earth and made it an overall awesome experience! Even the rest of the staff are so friendly and helpful. I cant wait to come get a pedicure next!!

UPDATE: returned for a spa day with my sister and mother. 5 star service once again. The staff is so nice. Casey did my Mani Pedi and shes an absolute delight. She was gentle but did a wonderful job taking care of me. She was so fun to chat with and she really made my day.Susan did my facial and she was very good at making me feel relaxed, explained what she was using and why and gave me great recommendations in what to use for my skin.My sister and mom had Janice and Gabby, respectively do their nails and both did a wonderful job. My moms feet needed some work and Janice did great! Nichole did their facials and theyve never looked dewier ! ❤️ Will continue to be my spa of choice, despite the 1.5 hour drive ❤️❤️❤️So professional and accommodating. I went for a girls weekend on 5/29/21. Our massage therapists were really welcoming and made sure we had communication about the pressure and our trouble areas and what we were comfortable with what they were doing. Gabby and Casey were so friendly and talkative I felt like they had been long time friends.My sister had a facial with Susan and shes been raving about it for days now.As a plus size woman, I have to say I was nervous that they wouldnt be able to accommodate me with robe size/tables/etc. But they had bigger robes and made me very comfortable. Came here 1st time for my birthday. Paul was so pleasant and my massage from Liz was wonderful. I also really enjoyed the dry sauna and the waterfall shower. The whole experience was the perfect way to pamper myself. Ill be back!

I went to A+C the weekend after I ran a marathon seeking some TLC in the shape of a massage and pedicure and the team here did not disappoint! My massage was thorough and addressed all of my areas of tension well, and my pedicure was great! Will definitely be coming back!

Wow, it is so beautiful and so peaceful in here! I came here for the first time this past week and got a mani-pedi with Ryen. It was very relaxing and she was so kind and did a wonderful job. She is very gentle and made me feel very pampered. I will definitely be back!

My mom and I had a great experience at Ape & Canary. We each had 60 minute massages. The locker room, lounge and spa were attractive, clean and comfortable. The service providers were attentive and gave an excellent massage. We were offered beverages when we arrived. The drinks were brought to the lounge with a small plate of chocolates while we relaxed and waited for our services to begin.When I booked the massages through the app, I was only able to see one confirmation. I contacted the spa to confirm off hours. The next day I received a call and email confirming the appointments.I will be making another appointment.

I had the best experience at Ape & Canary with my mom and sisters! I had an hour long facial with Susan. We all had facials either with Susan or Nichole. I had never had a facial before but I dont think I would want to go anywhere else after this experience! The lounge to hang out in while we each had our appointments was stylish, comfortable and tranquil. I loved that they offer beverages while you wait (including beer and wine) and you could lounge in a robe too. AND the dark chocolate truffle and green tea in the facial room was fantastic. Besides all that, how did I never have a facial before?! My skin felt amazing with the Image Skincare Vitamin C products which smelled divine. We will definitely be back again and again! Thank you!

What a lovely setting for a relaxing day at the spa! I had an excellent massage from Scott S. and enjoyed the sauna and a refreshing shower afterwards. The spa is elegant and charming, I especially liked being able to sit and relax on the enormous couch and sip coffee for a bit after my appointment. Looking forward to my next visit!

Not sure if the small space & place is suitable for this sort of business. I heard the floors creaking & outside noise, such as car doors slamming shut during my massage - no, not a super big deal, but you notice it. Also, there are only two mirrors above the two sinks to get ready with which proved inconvenient. Overall, it was good experience with pleasant staff. Be sure to preheat the sauna beforehand if you’re on a time crunch.

I love this salon! I have struggled to find a good hairdresser since I moved to Rochester 7 years ago, but now I have found my spot! The atmosphere is so welcoming and relaxing, everyone is polite and accommodating. They do a great job of making you feel like family. My hair always comes out FLAWLESS, they are up to date on the latest techniques and they have awesome products to choose from. I got a massage a few months back and it was amazing as well. I scheduled a blowout with ironwork here before a wedding from Corey, he was great and I got so many compliments on my hair and it looked great. The whole experience was pamering. I went here because it is advertised ad the Strathallan hotel salon and it is actually across the street, no big deal, historical adorable building, great location super welcoming environment. The waiting room is fully loaded with snacks and beverages and it was so cozy with the fireplace going. Ill be back here next time Im in town for a special occasion
