I found out about boondocks recently. It’s cool they are the only privately owned restaurant and bar in Scottsdale. Tried the duck fat French fries and they were amazing!! Staff is awesome and accommodating and they ensure a safe environment for their patrons so everyone can have a good time. If you haven’t checked them out you should !
I heard about Boondocks for the first time a few months ago. I was in the area yesterday and dropped in. I was surprised they had a band already going at 6 PM. They played a good variety of music and I enjoyed it. I thought I was going to eat inside because of the heat but they had a lot of misters and fans going and I was comfortable at the bar. I ordered the Saints Patty cheeseburger with fries. Both were quite tasty. They use high quality beef on a toasted bun and it hit the spot. I also had a glass of the Boondocks Amber on draft and would recommend it. The atmosphere reminded me of a Florida or Hilton Head beach bar. It was a nice crowd for so early in the evening and they were enjoying themselves. The next item on my agenda is a visit to their location in Tempe.
This was the very first bar 🍻 I ever went to in Arizona when I moved here Halloween of 2016. That was the best decision I ever made!!!!! 🤩 Matt and sonata are one of the best couples in Arizona!💕 He manages and she is a bar tender they both made sure I was taken care of when ever I met someone for the first time everyone made sure I was safe, I have never had such good care at a bar!! 😜 I cant leave out Rachel either she is another bar tender!! She was amazing and on my grandmothers birthday(Halloween) she was so patient and even let Grandma take pictures with her🧙🏻♀️🧹!! The drinks 🍹🍸are ALWAYS strong 💪🏻 and reasonably priced for old town!! The atmosphere is second to none you can still have music but have a conversation without bumping into ten people at once😁. The food is amazing!! 🌮My battered fish tacos were so crunchy and fresh! Dont forget to try the truffle fries with duck fat 🍟🤤. Just all around my favorite bar in Scottsdale, if you want to have a fun laid back night filled with fun you have to go here!! (I almost forgot they have games in the corner like basket ball 🏀or big Jenga!)
We were there for my 50th birthday last night. We were having a great time and bit of a large group. Loved the service and the ambiance. Some young guys came up and asked my friend if she sold blow. We don’t do drugs. She raised a fuss informing these kids and in return security made our group leave. Very unprofessional and unfortunate that security took the young guys side. We will not be back.
GREAT food and drinks here! And it is such a fun layout. This outdoor bar totally blew us away with all the loud TVs, fun outdoor games, open air seating and circle of bars! We sat in front of bartender Jamie W for quite a while and watched football on TV while enjoying drinks, appetizers, and good conversation with our local friend. This is truly one of the most terrific bars Ive visited anywhere. Staff was great too.
Bartenders and servers were great. Security not so much! Totally ruined what was a great time. Had some weird young guys asking a friend of ours for things they shouldnt have been asking for. Security, took the sides of the young d-bags and we left....made a huge scene for nothing we were involved in. Never had anything like this happen. Super dissapointed in this place.
Nice big open space that is perfect for watching sports on their Huge outdoor TV screen. Even though the outdoor seating is big, and it’s “self seating”, the servers found us pretty quickly and got the drinks and food orders taken in short order. The drinks were good and food ok. I did the Philly cheesesteak that was ok, but the wings were the better option!VictorB
A security guard named nick McClain was awesome, had great customer service and made me feel safe, did have to but went outof his way to help my drunk friend his an angel. He definitely deserves a rise.
Security did not take more a second to check our groups IDs. After walking in we all went to the bathroom and then bouncer in a white hat removed one person in our group for no apparent reason. Security did not explain why they were being removed. We were not being rowdy or destructive. If I could give zero stars I would. They place does not value paying customers. High would not recommend.
Awesome bar to hang out at. The drink prices arent bad at all and the service is friendly. Definitely would recommend checking this spot out. This bar is always bumping and is tons of fun.
Highly recommend coming here over the nightclubs in the area. Pretty cool outdoor area and a little bit more lively fun than the nightclub. I went to the night before. Easy to get in with a decent size group of people, and much more affordable than the alternatives.
Was in Scottsdale from NY on a bachelor party. When we arrived lines were outrageous so we wandered down the street to The Hot Chick (5/5 stars fyi), had ourselves a blast there and decided to go to boondocks to finish out the night as it was heavily recommended by the locals. Huge mistake, bouncers have a hard on for giving you a hard time and shining a flashlight in your face for no apparent reason. The second after buying drinks they yanked one of our buddies out of the bar bc apparently he was too drunk, why even let him in charge us $20 a head to pull him out 10 minutes later? I tried to reason with the manager to get our money back from the door, told me to go f myself among other disgusting words. DON’T waste your time. Place is full of clowns.
Was there for UFC 300- very packed but was a great time. Service was excellent, food was good- not great, but typical bar food so, it was good. Will definitely visit again
Definitely need more wait staff. Was an nice place. Appetizer on point, barkeep was awsome. Highly recommend. Thirsday night was pretty busy.
Food was pretty average but our bartender was great! Kept checking in on us regardless of how busy the bar actually was. They have a pool table and three dart boards on one half of the bar and an outdoor stage with heaters and music on the other half. Good vibes
My step daughter and her bff went to boondocks tonight, kind enough to visit me from out of state all weekend. They waited in line for nearly an hour, upon arrival the bouncer was mean and nasty, confiscating her real government issued ID, claiming “That’s not you.” After providing a second form of identification, they told her to call the police to take a look. She was very compliant and did so. The officer on the line, said they haven’t provided such services in months and to take it up with the manager. The second time speaking to the manager, “Kieton” they were told to come back in the day time to retrieve the ID, despite waiting another hour for aid. I am absolutely appalled at the behavior of the staff and poor management at this establishment. My daughter was left very disappointed, and with no identification to get through her flight home. Hopefully her trip wasn’t ruined, but I could leave 0 stars, I would. Shame on you, Boondocks!!
Food is good but Brandon olm the manager is the worst manager in old town. I’ve seen better managers out of the snake pits in Tucson. He runs around saying he owns place ( when he doesn’t) and like to get in peoples faces. Also the Orlando magics are trash stop wearing that jerseyFood is good
Perfect spot for a night out in Old Town. If you arrive late, there’s a line. Great service and live music
Great atmosphere and food is solid! If youre in old town you should give this a try.Our server Bryan provided excellent service and made sure we had an excellent experience. He was very kind gentleman.100/100 🙌
Great place with an amazing staff. Indoor and outdoor seating
Great restobar with fantastic food and drinks. The vibrant vibe made it an enjoyable night.
The staff from Boondocks were great. We always love the atmosphere and live music.Matt from Wisconsin
The best place in town to watch sports and grab a drink. You really can’t go wrong. There’s 3-4 bars in the place and the ppl are awesome. The vibe is exactly what you’re looking for if you’re heading to old town and want to enjoy AZ.
The staff was nice, but the experience was terrible. The waitress took drink orders then disappeared. The pours she brought back were laughable. The beer pictured below was the full pint brought out, not sure it the bartender need to take a sip or what. I usually dont leave negative reviews, but felt compelled to do so with the experience this time.Delivered as a full pint pour.
This place has a very fun atmosphere. The place is very very big with tons of different areas to congregate. The food was just okay, but the atmosphere was so much fun that it really didnt matter. Dont get me wrong, the food was not bad at all, but nothing memorable and we were mostly there to drink. I had the Cauliflower wings and they tasted great. Just wish they couldve been more fried. The drinks were perfect and the bartenders and servers were friendly.
I’ve been In the industry for a while here in Scottsdale and matt Olm has to the be by far the worst individual to run a venue like boondocks. Absolutely rude and un welcoming.
Love this bar. I went with my girlfriend last weekend and had a great time day drinking. She sadly left her purse and it basically had her life in it. We left around 8 pm so the next day we were optimistic about finding it. We were able to get in touch with a bartender their Chelsea. She couldnt find it at first but was determined to look everywhere and she FOUND IT. Always loved going to this place because of the service. Greatly appreciate Chelsea for being so thorough and going above and beyond for us!
Greet place to catch any sports game. There are tvs everywhere. The bartenders were very attentive to us, good suggestions for food and drinks, great indoor/outdoor venue. Even though it was hot out, the fans and misters kept it feeling nice.
Best bar in old town Scottsdale. Friendly people, fast service. Wide selection of drinks. Many tvs. Two pool tables. Darts. And the music is usually not too loud, you can talk to people.
Not only is Boondocks a great place to chill with your friends over food and drink, they also support local music and causes in a big way. I just came from Playing To Heals 5th Annual benefit show for Naturopaths Without Borders, Cloud Covered Streets and Phoenix Childrens Hospital - tons of fun for a great cause. Hats off to Boondocks!
50 cents for a side of Buffalo sauce, a credit card fee? Buffalo ‘Chicken’ wrap was mostly lettuce and cheese. You make enough on the overpriced beer to not nickel and dime people. Oh and an automatic 20% tip for so/so service. Better choices elsewhere !!
This place is always a good time. I came in with a bunch of friends and everyone had a fantastic experience. The Boonies staff is always on point. Dont skip Boondocks if you’re out cruising around Oldtown.
Great place to hang out on the huge patio . The bartenders, Amanda and Michael are always helpful.Thank you
Their bartender and security guard were extremely rude and unprofessional. We came in quickly with a group and we’re planning to buy several rounds of shots. One of our group members got confused trying to find the bathroom and the security guard immediately started to talk about our group as if we were insanely drunk and a mess when we had barely had anything at this point. The whole situation was uncomfortable and disappointing as we heard good things. The blonde bartender also verbally insulted our group and made us feel so uncomfortable. As a person who had worked many many customer service jobs this was not only disappointing but trashy. Don’t go unless you want to be treated like garbage
This is a great place to hang out with friends. It has a lot of areas to meet and interact with. With a dinning area, billiards, darts, several bars and an outdoor music venue anyone can find what they like here. The lines can get long very fast Fridays and Saturdays. Would recommend to arive early around 8pm or before. Otherwise youll have to wait in 30+ minute lines. Unless youre willing to pay the door guy to skip. However, it seems like they have added a separate line just for pay-to-enter guests. The staff are great and will get to know your oders when you go there a few times.
This place felt a little sketch. Not because they did anything wrong, but because it felt like the patrons could probably get a bit rowdy here.Boondocks gives off a college bar vibe and to be honest wasnt really our scene, but I could see it being alluring to other guests. The drinks are incredibly expensive. 1 Vodka soda and 1 Double Bacardi diet cost $40! The bar imposes as 2.75% surcharge on all transactions - so be aware of what youre spending.
Cool place! Staff was cool but not overly friendly. Our group was a much older crowd so I dont think we benefited from this place like a 20 something would. Still Id go back for the fried pickles. Beer choice wasnt great. It was clean and bathrooms were stocked. What more can you ask for :)
Not for me, but Im at the age where not being able to hear my friends is annoying. Met up with a small group, we sat outside. Tons of people, very loud, overwhelming for me. I paid over $9 for a can of Dos Equis after tip. We all agreed to finish our first drinks and dip out so we could actually talk to each other. Seems kinda like a meat market for college age people. Most people seemed to be having fun, just not my jam.
This place is exactly what you expect it to be! People having a good ol time in the different areas separated with the venue.Theres multiple outdoor sections, and there are many covered bar areas. Wherever you look, you can find somewhere that you fit in.Now, yes, it can get rowdy and might not be for everybody... but its a good time for a certain amount of time.Thee most surprising part about this place is the food. Who knew? All Im going to say is that the tater tots and the BBQ Ribs were outstanding! Unbelievably delicious and so necessary after all the cocktails my group had.If youre up for a lively crowd, music pumping like youre in the Joisey Shorah... this is the place. Oh, I loved the diversity, and most people were really having a crazy time. It was great for period watching.
We were accused of puking on the side of ‘his building’ after our friend rolled her ankle on the curb. We just got out to celebrate our bride, and he was very rude and uninviting. He was cussing at us as we tried to explain what happened. Would NOT recommend ever going here! Went to the Barstool and they offered our friend with a swollen ankle a lift and a seat right away! WORST EXPERIENCE IN SCOTTSDALE! 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
I was only at this bar briefly, as it was a stop on our party bike that we had rented. I did like this place though. The drink we ordered was amazing. The staff was very friendly. The place was clean too. I even saw a dog sitting at the outdoor seating area, so animal friendly as well. I would recommend this bar. I wish we had got to spend a little more time at this stop.
Amazing everything! Food, drinks, desserts, appetizers, the staff - all of it! It can be pricey, but you get more than what you pay for. The food is incredible and the way the staff treated us was exceptional. We’ll definitely be returning.
Waited over an hour and a half for the server to come back. She said she got super swamped. That’s completely unacceptable guy with a big beard sat there and gave a young gentleman an interview for about 45 minutes to an hour sat there and watched us had one drink offered to buy a drink that’s ridiculous we wanted food and drinks not to be left for over an hour. Thanks for making my dad’s experience a bust. You guys definitely need to hire some professional cleaners in your place..
Nice atmosphere, drinks are comparable to other bars in Scottsdale, but the customer service is some of the worse I have experienced. The bartenders are snappy and short with you, but the waitresses going around were very nice and accommodating. I was the DD for a group of five of my friends, I did a lap around the bar looking for two of my friends, and i was kicked out by security with no explanation and they would not have a conversation with me when I was clearly sober. There were multiple people I spoke to outside in which the same thing happened to them.
Big outdoor space. Decent drinks and good service.
Great place to watch the game and enjoy some bar food/drinks. Always a vibe.
Ive only been here for work events and always had a great experience. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Our work party usually has 10-50 people so plenty of space to accommodate us outside and fun things for us to do.
We werent aware that this place was more of a college bar atmosphere. The music was loud and the crowd definitely enjoyed their shots. The service was alright, but we were told wed get faster service if we just went to the bar. The food was decent, but all 4 of our meals came out at different times. It seemed pricey for what we experienced.
I tried to give the place a try. I really wanted to enjoy the lakers vs denver game 1 here. I walked in order drinks at 5:28pm the blonde waitress with tattoos left us for over an hour. My family just wanted to order food. So sad we left at 630pm. Ill never comeback.
I miss seeing Alex here. He was always funny, flirty, and made me feel SO welcome! Great place all around!
The service here was slow and the bartender (wearing a security shirt) wasn’t very helpful. Having said that the atmosphere and concept is cool. The drinks weren’t bad and everyone was nice. The Parking here sucks, I found some around back but when it gets dark it was sketchy. We had a great time though nonetheless!
I went there for a company meet and greet, first time there, I really love the setup and atmosphere. They were a bit understaffed, and I had to wait a while for my Margaritas but its understandable when youre understaffed. We had some of the appetizers / snack food they were just okay! But I would definitely go back for the bar atmosphere and music!
Solid spot to hang out & chill anytime. Mostly friendly staff... and usually a great crowd whether it is a week-night or a Sunday-funday. You can catch some live music as well on the back patio. Sometimes it is a solo guitarist or sometimes a full-on band.... its all good!
EDIT: went back in the morning and called the police to retrieve my ID because they would not give it back to me. 2 officers came and we all ended up waiting an hour because the manager took my ID home. At the end of this entire experience, all I got were some laughs going “oops! Sorry!”, and told that if I wanted to come back tonight I could get 1 free drink! S/O to Scottsdale PD. However, everyone at this establishment can get bent lol.I have never met a group of bouncers with more fragile egos than I did at Boondocks. I am visiting from out of town. Last night was my first night out and the first bar of the evening. I paid $40 cover to get my ID taken. I turn 22 in 2 weeks. I am not a minor. It took 5 bouncers to put their brains together to look at my ID. They refused to give it back after deeming it to be fake. I called the nonemergency PD number to come to an ID verification- to which they explained that they do not do (understandably so). I offered several forms of additional verification including: my debit card, a photo of my passport, student ID, etc. The bouncer I spoke to is named Chase- mustache, brown hair, tall. I lost my money and identification- which I explained that I will need to fly home. The most ridiculous experience. Clearly this bouncer knew he was wrong by the way I offered many solutions, but didn’t want to be called out for being wrong. What a power trip for you! Losers. Unfortunate, because I have enjoyed this bar in the past. Get better staff.
One of my favorite dog friendly patios! Food is decent for bar food, and they always have good beer specials. Only complaint is that they have the same band just about every weekend and they are not that good (in my opinion). Would rather just listen to normal music. Otherwise I really enjoy going here.
Been going there for years and its my favorite spot in Old Town. You get a feeling of being in a high energy place without going to the terrible clubs in Scottsdale. They have live music, pool, darts, bags, etc. The food menu is extensive and is actually solid across the menu. Most bars you just eat to get something in your stomach but I will go there just to eat sometimes. They show the fights and football. Its all the stuff you could want in a bar and more. The staff is amazing as well as the GM Matt. If you havent been...go, if you have then you agree with everything I said. Cheers 🍻
I would give negative stars if I could, but unfortunately I am unable too. This establishment unfortunately is a racist place in which they promote racist rhetoric.During my trip to Scottsdale this weekend to celebrate my friends birthday. We heard this area was a great place to mix and mingle and celebrate. We went into boondocks patio and bar excited to engage and drink!Upon entering we were met with stares as we are African American women. I mention that, because we understand that there is only a 7% population in this area. However, we continued in and ordered drinks.. Unfortunately, we were immediately met with an aggressive tone, where the only other black guy in the bar yells out to his white male friend and the white woman bar tender I hate black peopleWe were shocked at his words but I was even .more disgusted with the female bartenders response. She laughed and when questioned about it, immediately began to stuter, mentioning that he was her friend. were we pryellef atand called names, but in responding to this harassment, we were then asked to leave and the police was called. We are deeply traumatized from this event and would NOT recommend this barNo
Loved the bartender with the beard he was hilarious an awesome !
The outdoor patio and live music (not sure thats a regular occurrence... we were there during a charity concert) were pretty cool, plus multiple bars means no long wait for drinks.
Good food and good spirits. All I can say is dont go in their too late in the day. Because atmosphere is changing into night life and music is bumping throughout the place! Loud! Perfect for younger crowd in the evening.
Henry the manager has top tier customer service. I was truly impressed by the way he handled a not so great situation. He’s gained a life long customer in me.
Its in Scottsdale....consider the crowd. The music at this location was different than other clubs Ive been to on the West side of Phoenix which is predominantly hispanic/Latino. So youll hear more music in English than you would Spanish. The drinks were STRONG and but generously served and priced. If it werent for my company I probably wouldve had an awkward time but we danced our butts off so it was a good time overall.
My favorite bar in this part of Scottsdale! The bartenders and bouncers are the least pretentious of all the venues. One of the bouncers asked if we were leaving because we couldn’t get a drink when we were just waiting to pay our bill; he actually cared if we were having a good time. Reasonable drink prices too. The outdoor space is fantastic - lots of room to dance and hangout with a large group!
Every time weve gone excellent service, security staff on duty. Food was great! dont over dress its a relaxing fun time. live music. busy but excellent service. all staff excellent! will be back many times and bringing more. all ages from collage on up. Thank you so much for the happiness and pleasure I needed.
Our server Paige was phenomenal! We came in and she was the only server during a rush and she killed it! She was so efficient and friendly even though she was busy. It was the best time! Food is amazing and a broad liquor selection! Oh and the security guard working was very polite and had a great sense of humor! My friends and I are satisfied!
First time there, I believe our bartender was Joe..bearded guy. Awesome service. Chatted up us ladies and our husbands. Made for a great Sunday funday. He even shared the donuts with us! (He brings them every week for his co-workers)
BPG in both locations is most awesomeness😎🙌 The Tempe locay has a relaxed, chill vibe and was perfect for wrapping up the World Cup, plus Tyler, the GM, is a super kind and inviting presence at this spot. The Scottsdale locay is turnt! I Even on a Saturday afternoon for an NFL playoffs game, it was completely full with a DJ and massive TVs for full coverage around their large courtyard area. The wait staff in both locations are also absolutely amazing! PLEASE TIP THEM...THEY WORK CRAZY HARD & DESERVE IT!!! 💪🏆🥇 And absolutely try the brunch menu, inc the mimosas...you wont be disappointed🔥😍🤤
Waitstaff and bartenders are great. Their bouncers are the worst, unfortunately. I was sober all night during my brother’s bachelor party and these guys somehow surmised that I was the drunk one walking out of the restroom. I was escorted out for no good reason, other than I look like “that guy” who is guilty of something. Unfortunately, you can’t just be intoxicated at a bar. Boondocks doesn’t allow that (unless you’re a beautiful woman). Steer clear fellas… you might get accused of public intoxication if you go to the restroom.
Great vibe, staff is nice. Those garlic fries were 🔥. Love the outside patio setting and all the games available to play. Coming back when they have live music playing.
Im so disappointed in the quality of the bouncers at Boondocks. This place has changed so much. Ive never been so disrespected before, and on multiple occasions. Apparently the bouncers have more control than the managers do, because they do whatever they want. They are rude and disrespectful on every level. Its quite unfortunate because its a fun place, but the consistency of being treated poorly is a clear sign that they dont care about providing quality customer service.
I was looking for a Pet-Friendly Patio for Superbowl. This place is great for Sports viewing, big patio area. They have a Huge T.V. screen, sports players look life-size.A huge, old tree shades the back area all afternoon...young, and lively crowd. Come early on weekends...
Very bad place I never seen any disrespect people like this before . I don’t recommend to anyone 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
This boondocks is way better than the one in Tempe. The male bartender at the Tempe location was not as friendly as youd expect from a bar staff...This location was awesome... great vibe...
Ok for a down and dirty bar. Kinda dog-eared. I should have brought a bigger tattoo.
Does Gen z just listen to millennial music at bars? Drinks were crazy expensive, but service was pretty fast. Super packed. Avoid the grape slushy unless you like the medicine flavor. Only 2 bathroom stalls for like 200 drunk women.
Two very large tv screens so a great place to catch a game, and play games darts, pool, basketball, boxing machine. Oddly enough there was plenty of stuff behind the bar for the amount of people but the service was kinda slow.
Very interesting themed restaurant, very happy I tried it out! Food was good as was the service! A little pricey (not surprising given its location). A little more attention to detail, I sat down in the booth and my sport coat stuck to the table. Just one of those things that stick in the memory that makes a difference between good, great and excellent in the competitive food service industry.
This is not the type of bar I would typically go to but it was fun. The band they had was very good. The staff was amazing and worked hard to try to accommodate a very large crowd.I really like the set up of the outdoor area, very open. The drinks are a little overpriced but thats expected in Scottsdale.
Not the friendliest staff. It’s fine, do make sure to double check your tab.
Delicious! Definitely should check it out
Went there during the Waste Management open, saw Mike Jones, Paul Wall and T-Pain, great venue, good crowd, cover was pricey but during event hard to complain about it. Will go back, patio there with large screens, friendly barstaff
I used to love boondocks and I would always come here all the time with my friends but after my experience the other night I was honestly really let down by the way I was treated by security. It was towards the end of my night and my friend had just ordered the lyft, and all I had to drink that night was the drinks I bought at this bar, so I was still very coherent and aware of what was going on. I made the mistake of stumbling in front of a security guard inside of the bar and I was told it was time for me to go, which I then told him that my friend just called the uber and we were on our way out. He was escorting me out and I tripped and fell onto the ground and that apparently meant it was alright to have multiple grown men three times my size (I am a 5’6” gay man who weighs 120 pounds) pick me up and throw me out.I totally understand having people leave and making sure people don’t run and hide, or when people have too much to drink be okay with being told to go, but I have never felt more humiliated in my life being carried out with such force. I was not being aggressive, disruptive, violent, or threatening anyone’s safety, it was the grown men who grabbed me and threw me out which is something I did not appreciate nor were the actions justified.I would normally let this go but the next morning, I woke up with a sore arm and bruises on it where they grabbed me and I work at a labor intensive job and it was a struggle getting my tasks done during my shift. It is safe to say I will never be coming back, nor will I continue to suggest this bar, I think I’ll stick to hotchick right next door, at they’re mostly indoors and don’t have security guards who think its okay to ******* people because they stumble. Boondocks needs to do better but if you want to leave a bar with bruises this is the place to go!
The waitress Taylor tried to steal from us by adding an extra $30 tip on our order. We called and spoke with management and they didn’t offer an apology or anything on this waitress’s behavior. They were able to refund us the money she stole, but that’s inexcusable to employ such dishonest people. The bar was a pretty cool place as far as layout and vibe go, but everyone be careful because she’s probably done this to a ton of people before.
The atmosphere was popping, the food was great because it came to me hot, especially my tots and I had excellent service. The Boss is kind and always seen checking on things and his people. I felt very welcome and right at home. Go checkem out!!!
Absolute losers who work security. They took my real ID and at first refused to give it back saying it was fake. As soon as I called PD they ended up just giving it back immediately. Im 25 years old, and no one as ever claimed it as fake. I even showed them all my credit cards with name on it, and motorcycle license. Never ended up going in, dont plan on ever going back.
Not a fan. Got there to meet a group of friends while on a bachelor party and was immediately held at the door and bouncers took my ID inside. Came back out shortly after and claimed my MA ID was fake. I’m 26 years old and I do look young but come one? You can’t just scan it. Had to call Scottsdale PD to get it back and they responded promptly so big ups to them. Safe to say I won’t be back there when i’m in the area again. Not sure if it was the bouncers or management but somebody needs some better training on personal identification.
I was at this place on a Sunday for lunch. It has a great atmosphere with an open court yard in the middle where live music happens. There are also little bars that surround the court yard. Staff was great and so was the food. Highly recommend the pulled pork in the green chile sauce!
Makayla took 20 mins with every order
Boondocks is the best! Great service and atmosphere! There is an awesome and huge patio with tons of games and a fire pit for the winter. The bar is inside and outside and theres tons of space for big groups! They do awesome drink specials and deals as well which the staff are always willing to mention to you!
Really cool indoor outdoor bar
Nice bar. But.People smoke cigarettes! Okay sure maybe I sound like a baby. But I personally don’t like getting cancer forced upon me. Well I told the server and it was just an awkward. Nothing was done. Ugh don’t smoke.Great bar. Great severs keep it up but watch the cigs. Ruined over ten people’s nights. No joke.
People there tend to be older but its a cool bar to talk and listen to live music. Good for big groups cause it has a lot of space. The cocktails are fine and there were no cover fee. Probably wont return though.
Awesome environment and live entertainment. The owner is a great guy & hung out all night. I wouldnt be surprised if A Boy Named Sioux wasnt one of his favorite bands . I couldnt believe the diversity of the crowd. Great food. The nachos look awesome.
These security guards are trash on power trips. Joel kicked out my boyfriend because he was too intoxicated but couldnt give us a reason when we asked. We paid for our drinks and Joel wouldnt let my boyfriend finish it. We are vising from out of town and will not be coming back. Also, as my boyfriend was being escorted out, another security guard, Jake(?) got himself involved and said to me, you need to lose the attitude or Ill have to kick you out too, do you understand? I replied, Yes, I understand. I do speak English (I am an Asian female). This somehow made him more upset so he walked over, grabbed the drink from my hand, spilling it all over my blouse and proceeded to kick me out.
Genuinely disappointed in my experience at this “restaurant”. Came to Scottsdale for a vacation with my closest college friends, and was rudely interrogated at the door by the door man and bar manager. Three of us girls are petite and relatively short women, so it was assumed that this reflected our age and body shaming was enflighted. Although we were interested in this establishment for the food it offered, we were denied access, and our night was ruined due to the disrespect we received from Boondocks staff. We were told that they couldn’t scan our IDs for proof, and that we would have to contact the police.
Decent drink and a great staff make this one of the hot spots in Scottsdale. Only issue is that there is almost always a line of college kids trying to get in. Try it during off hours or it may take an hour to get in.
The outdoor laid back theme of this bar is unique in old town. They bring in good live music and have a great set up for sports. The reason for the less than stellar rating is the sheer number of people. This place is usually packed on a Saturday night. There is about a half inch of liquid on the floor which Im hoping is beer and not something else. Crazy line for the restroom and occasionally the bathrooms back up due to the amount of people using them.I cant blame a bar for being successful and trying to have as many customers as possible but I wouldnt recommend this place on a weekend night unless you are looking for a setting that resembles a packed college house party
We had a large party wanting to watch the bears game and eat lunch and called ahead and asked for a table. The manager said “yes, we can definitely accommodate you, come on in”. We showed up exactly when we told him we’d be there and he told us “it got busy fast in the last 5 minutes, so there’s no big tables left.” Having experience in the restaurant business in my past, this is a mortal sin. You don’t tell customers to come in and there’s a table available only to give it away “if the place gets busy.” To me this 1) makes them look desperate for business and 2) makes me wonder what other corners they cut and what else they’ll do to ensure they make a buck if this is the way their MANAGER runs his business. Really poor customer service. Would assume plenty more they deliver is poor if this is how they treat customers from the jump.
Great place to watch sports. Outdoor patio is huge and has a great vibe. Brittany is always attentive and makes the time there even better. Def ask for her as your server!
Its a party at Boondocks every game time! Had a great drink. the server was awesome!
Ive been going here for years, and its always a good time.
For an awesome drink that meets or exceeds your expectations, see Barry or Emily. They are the most wonderful bartenders I have ever met and they make quality drinks. The music here adds to its lovely and upbeat atmosphere. Great for meeting up with friends or even just to watch a game. They have safe charging lockers to charge your phone safely and a nice open patio for smoking and vaping, complete with a large swamp cooler fan for those hot summer nights.Definitely a place to check out if youre in town visiting.
Do not recommend. staff is full of dudes that get off on denying people at the door. seems like that’s the most exciting part of their day, which is quite frankly sad. fyi @ boondocks having a staff full of egotistical men on power trips is doing zero good for your business
Happy hour prices do not reflect bill. False advertising. Waiter was nonchalant about it and said “Menu is not updated”. Update the menu people! Will NEVER come here again.
Love the vibe here. Its a laid back bar with amazing food. They never disappoint with the live music too. Definitely a place to kick back with your friends and have a few beers and socialize.
I wasn’t pleased with my experience at this place. I was meeting my friends here and as soon as I walked in, security carded me and brought the security manager over. I’m from out of town so he thought my ID had flaws on it. He said I could either call the non-emergency number to have the police confirm it was real or leave the facility. The police arrived shortly after and confirmed it was real. Why can’t they just have a scanner on hand? My friends were waiting for me inside. It was just a waste of time and put a damper on my night. Who wants to stay at a bar that makes you alert law enforcement to validate your identity?
Fun, chill, and entertaining bar day or night. Large layout with multiple seating options during winter or summer. 3 bars open on busy nights in various spots throughout the venue. Pool tables, darts, juke box, punching bag, fire pits, couches, tables, live music occasionally, DJ on most busy nights, Wii with Mario Kart on large screen outside. Delicious food and specials. Happy hour is great and drink menu is diverse. Great, friendly staff. Great place for big groups looking to have a casual but fun place to meet up.
Chris is such an amazing security guard. He’s always courteous and kind. I look forward to coming to boondocks because of staff like him!
Very friendly staff good food
Literally so lame we have been here since 4pm and it’s dead. No music in most of the bars, no dancing. The game has taken up all the audio and screens this entire time. It’s the worst.
One of the best cherry cokes I have tasted. Plenty of space for big parties. I came with a huge party from work and they were able to accommodate us with no problems!
The place had a good atmosphere. However, the staff were not up to par. One of the bouncers with a long gray beard was rude and inappropriate to one of my friends. Likely will not be back.
Typical Scottsdale bar. Servers and staff are usually extremely nice and accommodating. Patrons not so much. Prices are ok. Burger was amazing.
Fight night, it was a little packed but the customer service from the staff was exceptional. The Canelo fight should have been on more of the TVs but UFC definitely took precedent. Overall a good first experience.
My friend took me to a cornhole club (bean bag toss?) at boondocks and it was so fun! The place is outdoors but I was more than comfortable with the epic fire pit and the heat lamps. Its dog friendly too, so thats always a plus. The bartenders are nice, and happy hour prices are pretty decent. The weekends are crazy slammed there so if you dont like big crowds (like my friend and I) go check it out on a weekday. One of my favorite parts too was the music! Jimmy Hendrix, the Stones, Sublime, The Expendables... it was like a reggae/classic rock lovers dreams combined!
Lively and eclectic outside bar, was close to the hotel I was staying and Uber was available as soon as we stepped out of the place. Good selection of music, bar staff was friendly, drink selection was decent. The dart area was small and some of the darts worn out. Was a great experience overall, would come back.
Great location, great atmosphere, crazy good bar-food, good selection of local drafts on tap. Easy choice to go to for a weekend hang. They always play the vikings games on Sunday on the big screen 😁
This bar has a nice setting being mostly outside with some covered area. Staff was friendly and their was a mixed crowd. Mostly young adults, some were questionable as to whether or not they were of age but altogether a good vibe.
We called ahead to ensure they would have a table ready for a large group of 12, and they assured us they would have it ready when we arrived. When we showed up 30 minutes later (exactly when we told them we would be there), there were only 2 small tables available and they suggested we go to another restaurant down the street. Dont waste your time here.
Great place, good times! Very busy generally. But very loud. Very much the old Town Scottdale vibe.
I havent been here during a typical night in Old Town, but my friends and I were looking for somewhere to eat on a Thursday night while watching the Thursday night football game. To my pleasure, they had a giant TV with the game on and tons of seating. This spot is perfect if youre looking for a community based sports viewing experience, everyone was getting into the game and gave a great group bar experience.
Local bars carry their own vibe around them. This is one of them. Excellent venue and pretty quick bar service. Its a huge area with the middle section/dancefloor being outdoors but still covered by an array of awnings. There are two bars that I could see, possibly three, but on opposite sides of the building.I only got a couple drinks and 4 vodka-redbulls set me back about $40. Those were the only drinks I had, not quite a bargain but fun place with good vibes. They had Mario kart going on a huge projector right in the middle of the dance floor. Fair game for whoever wants to play. The people were nice, the patrons I mean. I wasnt there even 10 minutes before someone bumped into me and spilled my drink. 30 minutes later he came up to me with a beer in his hand; might as well have been an olive branch, a very nice gesture.4/5 because of prices.
Lively place, excellent food and service 👌 👏
Went for Superbowl 2016. The atmosphere and venue is awesome. The fixed menu (hummus, Guac/Cheese/Salsa) dip and chicken tenders) was very disappointing. Servers were very busy, but we had a booth and they didnt come back enough. I like the place, but not the food that day. I will go back another day and try the food on the real menu.
Ita amazing and awesome that this place is still here. Me and the wife would come here all the time, we finally made it back after a few years and I was worried it wouldnt be here.Still great food and cold drinks. Its still a go to place to visit when hitting up old town.
Great bar with nice patio and food
Mustard man bouncer man with the mustache declined all four of my ID’s!!! Including my passport, Arizona ID, Wisconsin ID and screenshot of my AZ DMV ID! Luckily hours later I was able to sign up for Arizona Mobile ID, take that Boondocks. We. Will. Be. Back.Thank you. i
I visited here from MN and it was a SUPER cool place. We dont have anything like it here inMinnesota. Great atmosphere and drinks. The local beer is great as well. I am only giving 4 stars because it was extremely crowded. Like EXTREMELY crowded.
Manager Henery dose not have any people skills. He enable misconduct and inappropriate behavior with his staff and mistreats his customers. Please reevaluate his roll.
Best bar in old town Scottsdale! This bar has a huge outdoor patio, 2 bars and a shot bar, adult games like bags, darts, beer pong and pool, along with a fun and friendly staff. Great neighborhood bar with great prices. Definitely need to check it out and see for yourself.
Boondocks has some of the better priced drinks in oldtown and is certainly more casual than most places around, which I like. Unfortunately, the service for food has not been good in the many times Ive went there. Long waits between sitting, ordering. And being served.
The live music here is awesome. It has a big beautiful patio with a lot of seating. Just be aware that there is not much social distancing and it tends to get really loud with the live music.
This is one of the go to places when it comes down to Old Town. Its usually always a very busy place and they definitely know how to work with it. The employees are awesome and have always been on top of their work and always have a great experience whenever Im here. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good time and also a time to remember!!! 4 stars!!!!
An overpriced bar run by thugs. If you like being assaulted on the dance floor and thrown to the ground while trying to leave, this is the place for you.
Every time Im in Scottsdale Boondocks has been a great place to be. The staff is so friendly and amazing, the drinks are great and the laid back atmosphere is great for large groups with many personalities! They have darts, skee ball, and sometimes they even bust out the N64 for Mario kart!! Always a great time at Boondocks.
Great staff! Sumo was awesome, made sure my whole party was taken care of. I ride a motorcycle, he even checked my helmet. Waitstaff and management killed the game as well. Highly recommended.
Cool outdoor area with a giant tv. Lots of interesting space. If you want an old school bar to sit outside at and smoke, this is the place. Gets pretty crowded some nights, I like to go early before the mobs.
Fantastic place!! Hailey was great!! She recommended the buffalo wrap and it couldve have been any better!! We had a big party and Sadie handled it perfectly. Great food great service!!
Good place to go on a weekend night thats not the typical Scottsdale-club scene. Laid back, plenty of space, pool tables, food, darts, indoor and outdoor bars. Game area and more seating on the huge patio. (Used to be Spanish Fly) good prices!
Food was lacking in basic flavor. Weird seeing as how the menu ranges from quite plain to hangover creative bar foodI like the outdoor dog friendly vibe on Saturdays and SundaysKicking back with a mimosa and my pooch in the az patio season really makes for a great finish to the entire week:)
Drinks are cheap, great environment, plenty of open space and you can always pick up a game of pool if you want. The locations is also great, it is close to a the entire downtown scene but it is not in it.
Great place for drinks and to meet prople. Also good food menu. Bartender Michael pleasant and enjoyable to talk to. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere to go when it is boring to stay home. Lots of happy people
Appalling security. A friend and I had been there on 1/19/19 for a few minutes and were trying to make our way to a spot at the bar when one of the security guys (very large and bearded) brushed past me. When I looked back at him he asked me in a very escalated tone whether I was ok (as if there was something wrong with me, not out of concern). I was 100% sober and had only been there for a few minutes.. when I answered that I was and asked why, he continued to look at me as if I was crazy so I continued walking to the bar. He followed me and told me that if I was going to have a bad attitude I could leave. ????? He refused to tell me what I had done for him to come at me so aggressively. I have never been treated that way at a bar before and am shocked that this man is part of the security team. Unfortunate because the bar had a fun atmosphere otherwise (and is the only reason I’m giving it more than one star). From reading other reviews it really seems that this bar should re-evaluate their security team.
That band that was playing today was a line of ants and thats a good thing if you haven’t seen the movie. If they played every day at Boondocks, I would never go to another bar so help me alah. Amen, praise waffles.
Had a great late afternoon lunch. Fun place, food was excellent. Had the Saints Patty and Fish Tacos. The Niman ranch beef is the best. Kelly at the bar took great care of us - super friendly and helpful.
Visited here on a Monday evening (around 7 PM) and we were completely ignored. Sat at the outdoor-side bar, and there was a bartender 20 feet from us engaged in a conversation with someone I assume was a customer, and another bartender on the indoor-facing side talking to another employee. Neither of them acknowledged us and we waited for several minutes. After it became apparent we were not going to be approached, we simply slid the bar stools away and left. No one said anything to us. Nice.
Awesome spot to hit up on a night out.
A little loud for a guy in early 50s to be on a Saturday afternoon/evening, but had a great time with my son and his friends. I can see why they like coming there all the time
On the walk here we seen a cigar bar. Almost went in but the cigar smell was too strong. The only other lights that were on the street was boondocks. We walked in almost midnight and were IDed by security. I was surprised by all the people still drinking. Then more people came in. And it was only a Monday. But the environment energy was good. The bartenders nice. There was lots of games like pool janga boxing skee ball and a giant connect four. This place is huge and roomy. There was this guy who bought us drinks but apparently he thought since he bought us drinks he could put his hands on us or keep hugging us. Of course when the security guard came around to turn off the TVs he acted like super calm and stopped touching. And when we all were by the bartenders he fixed his behavior. I wish they had the security guards walking around so guys know just because we are in the far back doesnt mean people wont see u harassing us. But overall it was fun
Was there for a company Christmas party; the patio was our location. The atmosphere and décor is nice, fun and inviting. The staff was polite, a manager that night was helpful with a silly price issue: The bathroom had signs of advertising $5 shots of honey whiskey on Thursdays; it was Thursday and the company party didnt cover shots so we had to pay outta pocket. ok. I ask for one and the bartender somewhat rudely tells me no, that price is good only until 10pm. This is at 9:45pm! So I told him the time & he replied well, you are part of the party so you can not get the promotion wtf? I asked for the manager, because it was silly, if I have to PAY FOR IT, who cares who I am with? who makes this decisions? The manager gave me the shots for the $5 advertised price after mumbling some bs excuse. I think he said the sign was old. But overall, the place was nice. They have games and comfortable sofa lounging areas.... Music was decent, drinks were ok, food was not great. The staff wasnt frequent with replacement of the small buffet (mac & cheese, burger which was a sad thin patty, French fries, salad, pulled beef or something, couldnt tell cause it was never there, always empty).
The food was decent, service was good, womens bathroom was pretty gross.
So bad its good..I love this place. Come with low expectations and just enjoy the scene. Very interesting crowd and reasonably priced drinks. Pool table is only a buck
I have never been so mistreated by the management at any restaurant, bar, etc. Everything was going okay until I tried to pay the bill. When the bill came they had charged me too much. I informed them that their menu price was much lower then what they charged me. They come back again and had lowered the price but it is still more then the menu price. I inform the server again that this is still more then the menu price. A manager then comes over and very aggressively tells me that I am trying to nickel and dime them for trying to pay the MENU PRICE, even though he tells me there menu is wrong. He then proceeds to tell me that he doesnt need my business and just walks away.So in summary, for trying to pay the menu price, I had a manager come and tell me I was in the wrong very aggressively and without even trying to have a discussion about it. I hope he does not treat his staff the same way as he treats his customers.
Solid sports bar. Went here on a work trip and was able view any out of town game I wanted. Beer selection is very good and the burgers are worth the price
Fun-ish vibe, but caters to a definite type of crowd. Saw lots of beards (the actual kind) and while Im not against a good beard, in many ways Im enthusiastic, but a little variety in clientelle would make it more relaxed and less like babysitting. Maybe I just came on a bad day but I felt like over aged mutton awaiting slaughter with the bearded lambs looking on to see how long it would take us to die before they could take our seats. It took an uncomfortably long time. We did come up with a fun game: guess what color and type of underwear the servers and bartenders are wearing. Is it guessing when you can see them? Not sure, but we all won!
Probably the worst service Ive ever had. Bartenders ignore you and barbacks dont talk to their bartenders at all. I stood for five minutes waiting on a beer and when I was trying to cash out the bartender with my card began to speak to his coworker ignoring me. Beer is okay. Everything else is trash. Especially service
Boondocks is one of my favorite places to go in Old Town! The staff is the best. Always request Brittany as your server. She serves drinks and jokes!
People from all ages go here. Has 2 pool tables and other little games, Staff are not rude and has 3 bars. It gets packed around the weekend. Highly recommend there is some space to talk to people unlike other cramped up places.
Awesome place to hangout and drink.
Upbeat vibe. Friendly people and staff. Plenty of heaters for the chilly nights so you can sit outside anyways. I door seating for those who like that. Pool table and other games. Overall REALLY fun place.
Love this place, super dog friendly best place to watch football. Great service snd good food.
Love the place and the bartenders always pleasant and really helpful. Really nice place to make new friends or meet new people.
BEWARE as the bouncer with the large beard is known to be so insecure in his position that hes always taking peoples real IDs to feel empowered. Went last night & the bouncer took a suspicious amount of time looking at my friends PASSPORT. He then took my Florida ID, bent it so much it almost snapped & once I asked him to stop, he refused to give it back, no matter how much proof I had to backup that it was real. I had to go as far as calling the police so they could run my license & return it. Once it was proven real we still did not go in because the head of security was incredibly rude & UNPROFESSIONAL. We later spoke to police privately and they admit this happens often (a few times a month) & that the interaction mustve hurt the bouncers fragile ego. Security here are embarrassing & on a power trip. Do not go there
Only because I can’t give zero.
Great place if you go there before shopping in Old Town. If you go there after shopping they will not let you bring you precious bags inside. They have you leave them up front without a hostess. Yikes; was worried the whole time there. Other than that seems like a fun place!
Horrible Bar! Went there with a friend and ordered a drink at the bar when a random girl started yelling at me about taking her spot and that her friend was coming right back. There was no other place to buy a drink. I told her Id be out of there the second I got my drink. She complained and without even asking what happened the owner kicked me out. I will NEVER go there again and recommend avoiding this terrible place. Plus the drinks are way overpriced.
Cool place to watch a game, love the little Private both in the back for the party we went to. Definately crowded during game days but it was fun.
I will be back. I recommend this place.
Had a great time, staff is very friendly , musics good our waitress is great!! I recommended you go there!! Tonight!! Say hi to Henry! Great guy
Most delicious water! They must have an osmosis system because bar gun water is usually worse than tap.... great service, darts was fun, and atmosphere and music was money!
It was a good place to watch sports and have a drink. Food was okay, nothing special, and it took probably 45 minutes to get our food. Need more servers. Saw only 2 serving over 75 people atleast
Great taking care of a large group of 30 people in our group 2 weeks back. The patio was able to accommodate the spacing for such a large group of us.
I was told to go here to celebrate. Quite honestly everything was pretty mediocre about this place. Ive had better service at dive bars and Dos Gringos than here. Had an incident that the manager made excuses for that Ive never heard of. I wanted this place to be a spot where we frequent...however it will not be.
This is the friendly neighborhood bar/grill for Old Town Scottsdale. There are always locals and regulars here. The food is good and there is much more variety than you would expect. With the Shrimp Pitas , Ribs, and Duck Fat Fries it is definitely not your typical bar food. I like the live music on Sundays and the big open patio with games like Cornhole or ping pong. Definitely my favorite spot to just go hang out when in old town Scottsdale. It is close enough to all the busy bars to get a fun crowd without being too crazy which is nice. It can still get too busy sometimes, but I guess that is to be expected on a Friday or Saturday night around Scottsdale.
The patio was very cool and comfortable, considering it was 105 degrees outside! The food came out extremely fast, was hot and tasty.
Very chill and good sized grill. The staff was laid back, but attentive. We came for a birthday party, and they treated the birthday girl right. Will definitely be back!
Wow , I would have to say W0W !I am and my date or over 70, loved the rock and roll.The food menu has plenty of options.I would recommend you going , however not on the nights , I wish to take my girlfriend.( ;
Great selection of food and beer. Nice variety of beer, wine, and food for Happy Hour.Super large patio and dog friendly. Lots of TVs with all sports being shown.
Best bar in SCOTTSDALE...by far. Great drinks, food and atmosphere. Great for watching games. Servers are the best as well. Weve had Ashley and Nosy.
