Best dive bar ever. Its been around forever. Went for live music one night and drag lube wrestling last night. There is always new, interesting people to talk with. Ive been going since the 90s and not much has changed. The restrooms are cleaner. 😄 Always a great time. The bartenders are friendly and no matter how busy, they acknowledge you. The atmosphere is great and I love the art you find all over inside and out. I find something I didnt notice or see before, every time I go. Make sure you have cash for the door. Its only $7 for your member card and whatever the cover is that night. If you plan to Birmingham, this place should be on your list to visit.
This place is incredible! The only thing I would improve here is the privacy enforcement for their performers. The privacy for them is very poor. I would recommend donating better privacy curtains for them and clips for the curtains that connect to the walls. Tickets need to be asked more often to verify entry because sometimes people get to see their shows without paying.
It may look like a just a dive bar, but its actually a really chill place. On the weekends its open 24 hours and theres several nights a week including on the weekends where they have a man cooking amazing food outside so you can get a good meal Im talking pork chops and quesadillas and grilled potatoes and just amazing stuff. But you got to get it before he runs out. Joe the bartender is great. It can get crowded inside but theres plenty of room outside to chat with people. If you check their website its not all the same type of bands or events..it could be a live rock show, hip hop dj, or recently they had events to celebrate Pride month..
My Mates and I travel to Birmingham for a wedding. We discovered the Nick! It’s the best pub the staff made us feel right at home. Shout out to our big mate Joey for the warm welcome!! This will be a revisit next time we cross the pond to the USA.
Dive Bar Rock/Concert spot. You really cant gut it any different its simple, go for a beer, a good show and a good time. This is an old school haunt, a piece of bham past so you owe it to yourself to go see these places. Pick a band make sure they havent had any controversies first lol and go see them. The small venues are always fun so go have a good time
I come here for open mic nights on Mondays 7-pm to Afterhours. The Bathrooms are a little claustrophobic, but theyre a friendly community and they always put on for local artists! They also have a really good IPA there for just $4
My first time visiting here. This place seems to have a lot of history. The walls are covered in pictures and memorabilia. They host local talent, which is cool. We went to see the The Girls Round, hosted by Anna Hope. My sons partner, Emma Joines was playing in the round. All of the ladies were fantastic. I loved It!
I’m going to go on record and say the present boss at this bar makes me feel very small as their employees do I’ve seen patrons come into this bar and mistreat me on two occasions and have me put out without good cause the last time I was there I was ask to leave for saying hello to a girl that worked at another bar next thing I know I was told to get out then a young man started to put his hands on me and a older man when I said I didn’t do anything and wasn’t going to leave I was removed with force by a person that didn’t work there and yet while I was attacked I never harmed or struck anyone the bar tender didn’t even try to see what happened or get it resolved he just called the cops the person whom attacked me should have been the one to leave I will go as far to say African-Americans are only tolerated in this place, not welcomed the boss Danielle. She hasn’t even tried to hear me out. I’ve called for two weeks. She can care less from what I can tell. I’ve been going to this bar for like 16 yrs but it’s sad when a guy that drives a red truck with a Trump sticker on the back can come into the bar have animosity towards you for no reason asking the bartender Is this man bothering you looking for reasons to start something just to get you out of there these people apparently have some sort of influence and abuses it.
First time there and I really enjoyed it!! Joey went ABOVE AND BEYOND for me!!! Got me a chair and even brought me water!! Had an awesome time!!
Dropped in for Stephen Wilson Jr show - best way to experience music: small venue, good service, and easy to get to.
Great music, both local and touring. Great staff who are friendly amd attentive. There is a cover charge when theres a show, but its well worth it. Good standard beer selection at decent prices, plus some local craft beers at great prices. When theres no live music, theres a touchtunes jukebox, 2 pool tables AND AN AIR HOCKEY TABLE! One of the oldest and BEST music/bar venues around. Check it out!
This place is awesome. The doors have been open for music and drinks since the 80s! 24/7. They keep this tradition alive with live music 7 days a week. If you like to party and you love music (or vice versa) this is the place. They also have an excellent food truck right outside so you never have to leave!
Best little Big dive bar in Birmingham. It has such a great history. You never know wholl you see there. I love it.Its a place where you can see up and coming struggling artists as well as national acts. You will never be bored by the same old cover bands playing the same old tired classic rock tunes to the same old classic rock crowd.Always something different to be seen there. Its refreshing
Someone will want to ask the singer/songwriter , Justin Cross, playing Wednesday pm to put down his guitar and sing his rendition of acapello gospel songs. He has the most Annointed voice I have EVER heard! You will want to be recording it though because you will be awestruck!! I will pay $$$ for it! I have only heard him do it once at a small Church in West Point, GA! AWESOME!!! ❤️
The definition of a Dive Bar! We had a good time. The bar tender was fun and friendly. There was one guy performing live. I think he was a regular, but we were quite unimpressed with the music. A good place for a quick drink if you dont expect much from the entertainment and dont mind a biker scene in the parking lot.
Liz is the best! I will be coming back just because of her outstanding service! The music and atmosphere was great, as well. Drinks were cheap, too! Check their schedule and pick a night. 10/10 would come again
If youve seen me in Birmingham, youve seen me at The Nick. My favorite bar. So much history inside these walls; Google it if youre not familiar. Raj and Joel are my two faves behind the bar. The definitive dive of the South, without a doubt.
A Birmingham institution. I understand there are bigger, more hip venues in the ham but when it comes down to it, you got to play the Nick. A bit seedy, still scary for mainstream visitors, but besides the interior design that lacks chairs, nothing to be afraid of. As long as you behave like a person you will be treated like a person. Bar staff is correct and welcoming, drinks are very decently priced and the sound guy knows what he is doing. Catch a show, any show, and tickle the underbelly of the ham. Not sure when this started but in 2023 you have to become a member to visit the Nick. I cannot remember if it was a one time fee of $5 or $10 but I clearly remember the bar staff did the paperwork for me :-)
I love this place for so many reasons!!!1. It’s the #1 Dive Bar in Alabama!!! #Winning 🥇2. They have some of the best Bar Staff in BHM!3. They always have wonderfully talented Musicians gracing their stage!4. It is one of the oldest venues in the city and has an energy that is out of this world!5. There is always a very diverse crowd and everyone is welcome!Truthfully I could go on for days about how much I adore this place, but I will leave some mystique, and say stop in for a drink and some tunes!!🥃🎶
Hub of local music and private club. Open mic on Mondays (called bandstand) and music every night. Highly recommend! The oldest Rock venue in Bham!
Small but the audio system packs a punch!
Love this place! The dive-iest of dive bars in the very best way possible. Bartenders are cool, atmosphere is chill and the live music is great! Ive never not had a good time here.
Its the Nick, you come because it looks like trash, you stay because the music may be good.
Freaking love this place!!! They always allow me to feel at home surrounded by cool people
My Daddy plays there. (somedays.). Today was my first time seeing it.
First time visiting this place due to a tour. The bathrooms are very tiny, smelly and nasty. The entire place smelled like bad sour milk and throw up. The chairs felt very sticky...didnt feel comfortable touching anything. The drinks were OK but nothing special.
After living in Birmingham for the majority of my life, I made my way to The Nick for the first time this past weekend. I kind of knew what to expect but this place exceeded all of my expectations: Live music was on point, bar tenders were prompt, drinks werent outrageously expensive, patrons were friendly, etc. I will be coming back ASAP!
Went inside to drink a beer the Black Bartender was Super Cool & Friendly Black Guy like no other.Rog was his name he fed my Service Dog( Rowdy 007 ) many treats.Relly Cool People
The bathrooms were horrific..disgusting.
The Nick is consistently one of my favorite places in the barren cultural wasteland of Birmingham. Underground acts of any genre with occasional big names coming through, plus great bar service and usually very cheap tickets. Dont let the neighborhood fool you, its a gem.
People from all walks of life talk to each other on the front porch. Live music most nights. No telling what style, always awesome.
Always on the good vibe. Visit at the nick and be sure yould come alive
Theres something thats awkwardly enjoyable about an old concert venue. The Nick has been the most consistent dive bar experience in America. Ive visited here every so often since 1992 and things just dont change there. Its old, unrefined, rough, a little dark, and a bit too loud, but thats exactly what I expected.Theres not much to the place, limited parking lot, older building, a bit of out-dated decor, and limited seating. But its a dive-bar... no frilly decor or elaborate marquee. But the music is loud, the beer is cold and the people are enthusiastic.
Classic live music dive. Shows 7 nights a week. Rap, metal, funk, and everything in between. They have a decent selection of beer too. Always open late. Whats not to love about this place?
Great dive bar. Lived in bham most of my life and only have been here like 3 times. But had to meet someone here and was a cool little dive hangout.
Every time I am here, I enjoy it. Ive seen a few shows here, but Im always here with friends and that always makes it a good time.
Best bar in Birmingham idgaf. Cheap delicious drinks and live music and the best people watching in town. 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
Laid back staff fair priced drinks. Good happy hr crowd of regulars. I true staple of Birmingham.
My first time at The Nick was to listen to my son Larry Myers jam. The staff and visitors there were most friendly and accommodating. Love the place❣️ I will definitely be returning.
Really cool , one of a kind venue! The live music is always great 👍👍
Birmingham is full of bars that have this weird upper-end hipster aesthetic. This is not one of them. The drinks are cheap and to the point; the decor is like the bumper of a Grateful Dead fans Jeep; and the music is always rad af. Plus it is open to the ungodly hours of the morning.
Can see up and coming bands from all over the country. Saw Janes Addiction there back in 1988. Great bartenders. Good people.
Theres a sticker for the band Gonzales on the inside of a hanging lamp shade over the bar. Its been there since at least 2007.
My favorite dive bar in the Southeast. Live music before (and hopefully after) COVID-19 with a fun crowd and good prices on drinks.
Parking is terrible and the bathrooms smell awful. Best dive bar in the city. 5 out of 5
Played a gig here with 2 other bands. It was a Wednesday night so kind of dead but still had a great time and makes me want to come back when its really poppin
Never knew the place existed.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!Heather Hall
I was stuck in bham for work but thank God I went here on the last night I was in town. Hands down a awesome dive bar, I wish there was one like this in Huntsville.
One of the best dive bars ever. Plus Ive heard so excellent music here!!!
Feels a little dirty, but somehow I like this place anyway. Cold beer, good musical acts, and best of all, they stay open pretty much all night until the sun comes up.
Birmingham institution. I understand there are bigger, more hip venues in the ham but when it comes down to it you got to play the Nick. Seedy, still scary for mainstream visitors, but nothing to fear. As long as you behave like a person
If you love live rock music great places to go chill, play pool , and , get few drinks
Awesome joint to hang out and have a few drinks. The history of this place is literally oozing from the walls. 10/10 Pam
I always have good times here. If DD is bartending, get him to make you a drink and, enjoy!
If you know, you know and you rate it 5 stars. A magical place. Not for the faint of heart, but The Nick has my heart forever.
Best place and atmosphere for a beer.Have excellent bands play here
This place is awesome. Great dive bar. Friendly patrons. Good staff.
Great local rock n roll joint. I have caught lots of great live shows a the Nick. Bands from Jet to many, many local acts.
You dont explain the Nick you experience it
Everyone there was so nice. We came to see Chris Simmons Band. And they were awesome.
Always dirty. Rude door guys. Drinks are overpriced. Bands are interesting to say the least.
If youre looking for pills, 5 stars. If you dont like being stabbed in the parking lot, no stars.
It is an odd place was there to see a band from out of town. However folks running bar and at front were friendly enough.
Had a great time. It still the same as 20 years ago. Brought back a lit if fun memories.
Great dive bar
Havent been here in ages but best late night bar around! Great music!
Cool atmosphere with cool people. And In Yo Face Catering:Mmm…Mmm…Good!
Late night dive and live music venue. They have cheap drinks, live music, pool tables, and good company.
Lil place but good vibes over all for a late late
Small and very dark. All beer Cold... Lots of old posters. Good place to chill.

Staff is cool. Guy outside at door door as kind of rude but everyone else helped the mood
It was ok. Its a bar. That for some reason you need to be a member of. Eh. Next.
CBGB of the south. Cold beer, good tunes, cool bartenders. A Birmingham legend. Late night hot spot.
Cool place ... cheap drinks... live music ... pool tables
Been going to local shows here for years. Love this place.
One of the best bars in town, great history and atmosphere.
Awesome place. Great sound. Great place to catch Dexateens, Bohannons, or Glory Fires.

Pictures of this place should be in the dictionary for dive bar. Not pretentious
Greatest small venue in Birmingham. Not Classy, but Classic.
Looks very Busy and its a Wednesday night
If you dont know this place, you dont know Birmingham
Underground music and a bar. What more could you ask for?
Still one of the best places for live music
The staff is friendly but the band we came to see never played.
Great spot for a casual drink with friends.

Great place!!! Love the friendly environment!!!
Good venue, great local talent!
First visit, and it was not what I had expected ( in a good way).
This is either your kind of place or it isnt.
A good eclectic scene...a mainstay in Birmingham!
Real dive...youll love it...
A meet market full of alcoholics and mostly mediocre local bands...
Love the workers and maneger is very cool
