I had a wonderful Massage at the IBS School of Cosmetology and Massage by Meagan. The space was clean, quiet, and professional. Meagan was attentive and loosened all my tight spots. The intake form you fill out asks what pressure you like and if you want particular areas worked on. The school does a Complimentary Strand Test that ensures your hair can withstand the Bleaching Process. I also had my hair Bleached by Olivia, and she was able to lift my hair several levels in one day. My hair was three colors, and it wasnt damaged after the process. The students performing the services have an Instructor present during the process.
The only service I recommend booking is a massage. I’ve always had a great experience with them. Knocking it down a few due to difficult scheduling; sometimes it’s quite a ways out, I’ve had a few cancelled due to not having a student the day-of for my service. I called before my most recent visit to say there was an accident on the exit I’d need to take and may be a few minutes late, note this was 15 mins before my appointment, the receptionist stated she was just about to call me to reschedule for said reason. I didn’t mind so I changed the appointment to the next day for a brow wax. It was by far the most awkward experience, the student skimmed over my intake sheet and seemed especially nervous. I had waxing done here a few years ago and there was an instructor helping the student every step of the way. This time around, the wax was barely warm which made it difficult to pull off with the strips. My brows are pretty natural and I just wanted them cleaned up a bit. Before I could even look in the mirror the student called in her instructor to take a look, the instructor barely glanced at my face and said they looked great and signed off her worksheet. I didn’t get to look at my face until I had paid and was back in my car which I thought was especially odd. The shape was much more thinned out than I expected and the center between them was completely missed. I’ve always had to pluck a few hairs after a waxing service but I had to do quite a bit of clean up once I got home. I hate to leave this kind of remark but for students paying to be here, to build a career, the instructors could be a lot more invested themselves.
I just got a call this morning from IBS confirming the appointment that I had booked a month in advance stating they have raised their prices and I will need to pay the higher price for my massage service later today. 3 hours notice for a policy that took effect 9 days ago. When I stated the policy should have been to grandfather people who made appointments before the policy change I was told sorry I can either pay the full price today or book a lesser service instead. I said it’s not about the cost of the service it’s about the disrespect to customers that you show by not grandfathering folks who already made an appointment in advance of the policy change. When I asked for contact information of a policy maker, I was denied the opportunity to give constructive feedback. Which brings me to another issue. I booked an appointment two months ago for a one and a half hour massage. My massage was exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes long. I showed up early for that appointment to ensure the full opportunity for one and a half hours on the table. DO NOT COME HERE!! They nickel and dime folks, are dishonest, and treat customers like garbage. I understand it is the cheaper alternative but I would much rather go to a full salon and spa and get what I pay for then have to deal with the aggravation of being told you’re going to get a service and not. I feel sorry for the students who need this practice because the institution clearly does not care to provide that opportunity.
Beware! Student’s are allowed to complete their courses based on “competency” which changes depending on which instructor signs off on it. Allowing them to test out by signing off on a practical even when they havent worked on a human. Instructors are underpaid and overworked.
I called twice and they canceled on me both times 10 minutes before the appointment. I scheduled one last appointment, student was 30 minutes late and complained to the receptionist (in front of me) about how much she didn’t want to give this haircut and instead went to go chat with her coworkers. Obviously I left because what the hell 😭😭listen I’m a student too so I understand but cmonnnnnn omfg
Jordan did a fantastic job on a cut and color for me, under $100 for everything, and the service was great
Went here for my daughters first hair trim. She has gorgeous long curly hair, is 5 and is very adamant about keeping it long. Stylist was super friendly, asked my kiddo the questions before she turned to me (daughter is shy but also much appreciated that the actual client came first even tho Mom was there because its her hair) and she took off exactly how much she wanted! This was at the end of June and Im getting ready to book again!
Ive had a few haircuts here now, all the student barbers have been great. It may take a bit longer than your usual trim, but only because instructors stop by to check often and give feedback and instruction to the students. Very good pricing and a nice atmosphere, glad to support them.
Ive procrastinated getting my hair professionally dyed and cut since 2019, but decided it was finally time to let myself be pampered. I booked the appointment a couple weeks ahead of time and it was an easy process. The student who worked on my hair was amazing and the prices are super affordable compared to salon prices. I highly recommend this school and absolutely will be booking another appointment when its time to dye my hair again
Canceled my appointment 20 minutes prior. The receptionist rescheduled for the following week, same time. I showed up to my appointment and I am not on the schedule. I wasnt expecting much but thought they could at least schedule a client properly. Im pretty sure I dodged a bullet here by not receiving services. The students were sitting on counters, cursing. Very unprofessional environment. I will not attempt to ever schedule here again. I suggest you pay a little more for an actual salon, not this nonsense.
Received a very nice haircut. The stylist went over their plan with the instructor before starting and was very professional and friendly. They took their time and did a great job- well worth the $8. Will be back.
Play raining for a haircut and a beard trim and they did a really good job Katie was excellent and I gave her a nice little gratuity there she was very good and I hope to come back soon all right thank you.
I read about student cuts. Interested, I went in. Liz was the student who cut my hair. She filled out a survey after asking how I wanted my hair cut. Her instructor then approves the cut after confirming with me. I was Lizs first haircut on a person. There was some nervousness ( on her part... I was certain it would work out.)but the instructor was hands on training with Liz. Afterward, Liz washed my hair and checked for stragglers. The result? One of the finest haircuts Ive received. The cost? $8 charge. *Note. Bring cash to directly tip the student. I recommend this establishment and their processes highly.
Great place to get a facial, massage, haircut or wax. The service can be slow (its a school!) but well worth the time. The cost of services is ridiculously inexpensive, I suggest you also bring cash to tip the students.
DO NOT get color here!I went in asking for a few subtle highlights You may get a student totally unprepared as I did but that is not the worst. When I realized things were going wrong with my simple foil job, the instructor got immediately defensive, when she took a foil off I could see the student had only managed to get color on half of the hair length, kind of like a porcupine, I asked her to take them all out and she walked away and huddled in the corner with the instructor, I waited and then had to get up and walk over to ask them to take everything out, they were rude so rude instead of apologizing, then had the nerve to try and charge double the listed price for that service, which I didn’t get at all! I should have left without paying anything...BEWARE
Everyone here is very pleasant to work with. I went for an hour and a half massage and paid $40. The students really want to get it right so it takes extra time but its worth it to me.
My friend, Mathew, a student at IBS, helped me today by giving me a beard trim and facial. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a supportive queer barber. We NEED more access to Queer-Affirming Barbers in Oregon. We need Barbers, like Mat, that represent us, lift us up, hear our needs, and encourage our wildest ideas with our expression!
Allison, who was my beautician today, was so gentle that I fell asleep twice! Great attitudes, friendly staff and students, excellent outcome with my hair. Ill definitely be back and will recommend 10/10.
My wife made a surprise massage for a date for both of us. We thoroughly enjoyed our massages. Very professional, private for each person. Very reasonable prices as it is students performing the massage.
While understanding of the fact that the young people working there are in fact working to improve their condition and gain valuable knowledge and experience, I would like to say publicly that my own experiences there today were at the very bad end of the spectrum of badness. It took two people over thirty minutes to give me what turned out to be a barely acceptable fade...one of the simplest haircuts out there. Yes, it seems the clientele is mostly skewed female, but...is it sexist for me to think even a woman should be able to give a passable male haircut before licensure? But what REALLY irked me wasnt the haircut, it was the massage I got for $25. I specifically indicated multiple times I needed it for my neck and shoulders, for pain management. So why did I get a bunch of barely there rubbing on my arms and back? I came away from that experience more stressed than when i went in, and still had to take tylenol. I could and will seek out a chriropractor, but...for $15, I could go to one of the commercialized joints and get much better service. When Im less mad, Im going to condense the nger down into a couple of tweets, etc. that will be more readable by a larger audience, so that people seriously reconsider going there for a massage in the near future. Hopefull any resultant decrease in revenue will make someone think twice about the attentiveness and management/supervision of the masseuses.
So professional and one of the best massages I have ever had. Total relaxation.Thank you very much
Students pleasant, polite and eye to detail. Limited waiting area , calm setting.
Got my hair cut here. It does take a while but i felt comfortable with the process, everyone was very professional and i love the end result.
IBS. affordable.experimental. totally worth it for the haircuts and dye-jobs ive received at IBS over the years. the kids as students make the experience even more fun. ;-)
I have been coming here every 2 to 3 months....I just love all the people and this is where I got to meet Jeffrey, He was the best and is missed....
Dont get your hair colored here, youll regret it. They mess up your hair and youll just end up paying $150 to get it fixed elsewhere.
Always friendly and energetic environment, with the prices so low I can afford to have a spa-day on a budget!
Got lucky, great hair cut and atmosphere
They were all amazing!!!
Bobbi helped release the tight muscles creating pain.
They do exactly what you ask for and you cant beat the price!
Great place. Good students!
Had an excellent experience :)
Wasted my time. Never again.
Fantastic weave!!
Lovely service
