Absolutely the worst bar I’ve ever been to. Last weekend for my birthday my friends and I waited over an hour to be served while everyone around us was being helped. Girls pushed into us called us names and ended up being helped before us while the bartender working laughed at their cruel remarks and refused to help us . Tonight, my friend and I went out (we’re both 22) and the bar was full of underage kids. There was no bouncer. People were dancing on the tables. Fights were happening. We waited almost an hour again and ended up leaving. The bartenders were only helping men and avoiding all women. It felt very sexist to me. I felt unsafe in the environment. I used to enjoy coming to whiskeys but it seems now that the workers don’t actually care about the customers or about who’s been waiting longest. I’m an extremely patient person, however I have felt very disrespected the past few times and I will never ever go again.
We stopped in Whiskey Jacks on a Tuesday early afternoon as we were visiting State Street after eating gyros at The Parthenon. As we strolled & looked at all the changes on State Street, we came upon the beautiful granite facade on the front of what used to be The Pub. We stepped inside & asked the joyously friendly barkeep if this had been The Pub & he said, no, The Peuk! (Too funny.) We had beers on tap and just for old times sake, we drank them in the window, watching pedestrians on State Street. The beer selection was great, the bartender friendly, a great salesman, the music country, and the size of the bar spacious for crowds. Upcoming events were clearly posted and different seating ample. The bathrooms could be cleaner (the corrugated steel stall walls held a lot of dirt/grunge on them where they met the wood trim,) so that was disappointing. Otherwise, seems like a great place!
Didnt try any food, but happy hour was cool, and the atmosphere (Saturday night) was definitely a vibe.
You Think people would get enough of racial profiling. We entered this bar at about 9pm. This bar was extremely empty. There were three security guards at the door. Our DL’s were physically checked and then scanned under a verification machine. We proceeded to the bar ordered drinks and sat down, ordered more drinks listening to music. While sitting, we were approached by a security person demanding Id’s at about 1045pm. My fiancé asked, why we were checked at the door. We were told we look too young. We both presented driver’s license just to be told they were fake. We asked for them back so we could leave. He told us “NO” and wouldn’t return both driver’s license . We were asked to pull up our Apple ID accounts. After, refusing he wouldn’t give the license back so we could leave. We finally showed Apple identification. There was no supervisor present to handle the situation. Just irresponsible workers. DO NOT GO HERE !!! if you want quality service! Apparently they think they can treat college kids trashy but ran into “Adults”!. Don’t Spend Your Money Here !
The indoor atmosphere is great with outdoor seating. Floors in the mens bathroom were extremely sticky, like wanting to pull my shoes off bad. It also had a foul stench of urine.
I traveled from 2 hours away with my best friend to see the emo pop punk cover band Loudernow. The service was great but I was charged two different prices for my drinks by two different bartenders and it was frustrating.. I realize it was busy but one bartender too often skipped over other ppl that were there waiting longer..Someone knocked my almost full drink out of my hand and the bartender made me an extra one at no cost so that was nice!
The ambiance was ok and the music wasn’t really something that you can dance to but the people that I met there were really nice.
Because your staff is heavily racist and known for racial profiling. I use to go your bat when it first opened and always had nothing but entrance issues due to my ethnicity where as when I went with my white friends, they all got in just fine but me. You would think after your bar was vandalized during the pandemic that youd get the hint but clearly after reading these new comments I see that you have not.
This bar loves preying on underage females. You should see the bar on Tuesday night when they have karaoke, it is all underage women who they hope will keep all of the creepy older men happy. Along with that, they will lie about having a strict “no sweatpants policy” when they let guys come in wearing sweatpants but when girls come in they lie and say it’s against their policy.
Visited a friend there on game day weekend and was impressed by the atmosphere but not the service. The dj, who was in a wheelchair, went on the microphone and made a huge scene to an innocent male who was just looking to charge his phone near the band set up. The dj loudly stopped the music and called out the man who was most definitely sober for charging his phone and carried on by saying he had a bad haircut and needed to be escorted out. This was 100% not necessary. The poor male was extremely embarrassed for doing something that didn’t harm a soul. For someone speaking in a wheelchair, he should have very much considered how it feels to be bullied for no reason at all. The respect was not there.
Prepare for big brother to scan your ID for admission into the bar
Good drink prices and a variety of shots, pretty spacious place
Great place to sing karaoke and have a drink.
Bouncers are soulless and dont care about machines stealing customers money. Only care about looking as tough as the wood thats probably in place of their brain.
Had an amazing time here for my bachelorette party!
Whiskey Jacks was one of the absolute best bars on State street. From the friendly service, to the amazing drinks, 10/10 would recommend. The laffy taffy shot and the PBJ shot was our personal fav. The music was on point. I especially loved hearing whiskey lullaby twice.
Same issues as the other low reviews. Drinks are ok, but not worth the effort for some high and mighty saloon. Go to any of the other places here, there are enough better places worth spending money.
This will be five stars if you want to wait in line or hang with the greasy college kids.
Huge Bar! Country themed, lots to do from Pool to Darts. Has a small kitchen but real good wings and flat bread pizza. Service great. And try one of their speciality shot.
This bar is alright, have some cool shot options and their line is usually short (probably cause it’s an “ehh” bar.) The worst part is their dress code, who do they think they are. It’s whiskey fricken jacks. Look, I like country music, but their bands are always pretty bad. DJ just plays classic hits nothing special. 2/10 go if the line is short. Extra point cause you can usually sneak past the bouncer without paying.
You want to be treated like a second-rate citizen... this is the place for you. Rude bartenders and inconsiderate security. Want your feet to stick to the floor, even better. Understand this is a college bar, but has to be the worse of them all.
I went specifically to this place to sing karaoke on a Tuesday night because my friends invited me out. I had just gotten done bartending downtown at like 10 o clock. Getting to whiskey Jacks by like 10:20pm. We get right in with no problems. Doorman was so friendly and kind. Even greeted us with a nice smile and a light hearted joke. Which is the only reason I gave this place 2 stars. He was awesome. Then we go inside, meet up with friends and what not, go to the bar around 10:30pm and stood there on the side of the bar with the girl bartender for like 20-25 minutes before she even spoke to us. Then, she comes over and asks us if we need anything, I say yes and I turn to my friends and ask if they know what they want. Seconds go by and they dont know so I turn to order what I want and she has already walked away... used a whole 15 seconds to deliberate and that was too long for her. She hands a receipt to a guest right next to me. They sign and leave. I look at the cashier name and it says, Cara so Im beginning to get upset. We wait another ten minutes and the big guy with the beard comes up to me. He handles my order right away. Which made me want to be positive about this guy but then he gets my friend next to mes order which is a girl, then ignored our gay friend standing next to her. Idk what that was about. But I didnt like it. His name according to my receipt read, stove which really sounds like a fake name but idk. We continue to wait a few more minutes for our gay friend to get a drink. I even yelled both names at the correct bartenders and they turned and gave me a dirty look because I used their names and continued to ignore us. So our gay friend sends his girl friends to the bar and they get service immediately. They get him his whiskey/coke and on the night goes. At this point I already put in my song request. The KJ at this establishment is the worst KJ I have ever met / seen / heard in my entire life. I am from Las Vegas, Nevada and never have I ever been to a place where it takes 2 and a half hours for someone to sing one song before. Upon observing the KJ (Karaoke Host) I noticed that young girls would walk up inside the booth and flirt with him and suddenly, they would be next up to sing. This is not how it should be and defeats the purpose of having a list. I put my name on the list at like 10:28pm and did not sing until somewhere close to 1am. What was supposed to be a quick one hour sing a song and have a drink turned into an almost 3 hour headache and I dont recommend anyone who is into karaoke go to karaoke at this establishment... props to the doorman though for being friendly and welcoming...
Fun club! A lot of students and sometimes live music. Good place to meet people, and they have 80 something shots and a few craft beers on tap too. Not bad for a club honestly. Definitely visit if youre in town and clubbing
This was one of the rare occasions where I was not the problem. Hell, I was in the zone at the arcade basketball game. Sure I tried to ride the mechanical bull backwards and gagged up a little into a cup. However, my friend was the one who got kicked out for not being able to stand straight. We were visiting him for the weekend and bought him shot after shot after shot. It was a struggle getting him back to the apartment and into bed. By the end of the night (and into the next morning), two loads of laundry were done and the apartment reeked of vomit. I knew it wasn’t going to smell great with seven of us staying there, but the vomit exacerbated things. Still, it was a great success.
Just moved to Madison but this place is legit. Listen all you youngen are crashing them and overwhelming them every weekend. Its wild. But this team is rock solid. Theyre working to get drinks poured quick! Bartender here got skills. The DJ is freaking amazing. Really has an effect on the crowd where you can tell the people are vibing. Great college bar.
Its not the most fancy bar on state street but it always boasts a full dance floor for a younger crowd. The drinks are reasonable but there is a $10 minimum which some people dont like. Great live music atmosphere on the weekends and you get in without a cover with a student ID.
Great space but horrible customers. I’m queer and I was hate-crimed several times here while I was just trying to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Ended up just leaving because the hate wouldn’t stop. I did not feel welcomed by other patrons
This bar is okay, nothing special but nothing terrible. Thursday $5 long islands are where it’s at. FYI - they have a dress code which I don’t really get because it is not that nice of a bar.
We went on a busy Saturday night. At one point there were 3 people behind the bar, but only 1 seemed to be serving the crowd. Took us a while to get served, but the guy who tended to us was killing it. He was super fast and attentive. He did a great job. Drinks were good.
Good news: We went for NYE bought tickets ahead of time. They had good appetizers that were included in the tickets. Bartenders were nice and we always had a drink. Also with the tickets, our drinks were all $3. Played good music. Bad: If you wanted a signature shot, you HAD to buy two or they wont make it. Before midnight, they took away all the chairs at the bar, which my friends and I, and others, were sitting in.
I was there last night with my husband and a friend. We had our coats over the VIP railing (which was dead) for a couple of hours at this point. We watched one of the workers angrily pick all of our coats up and throw them into a corner. We would have complied just fine with moving our coats, but they had been there for hours and no one seemed to mind. Clearly he was having a bad night or woke up on the wrong side of the bed. When we told him it wasn’t necessary to do that so hastily , he proceeded to say “you don’t want to go to jail” and begun pushing my friend out. While walking through the bar to the exit, I stayed in the middle as the worker and now one of his buddies continued to reach over to my friend in front of me who was walking out. They wanted to continue pushing him when there was no need. I attempted to stop them from pushing my friend when they responded “you don’t want to do this.” What is up with these kids? Interestingly, we saw another group get kicked out right after us who were baffled as well. This guy walked outside, arms crossed like he was so big and bad and continued staring us down, your job was done pal. These guys need to relax. They are a walking liability to the business and need to learn some emotional Intelligence. So unprofessional and left a bad impression on this place. Disappointing
Very fun Lively bar right in the heart of State Street! Always have amazing drink specials and the bar and entire facility is always very clean and well-kept. Definitely my favorite place on State Street or pretty much anywhere downtown to go have some fun and unwind. And they have an amazing craft beer selection!
I went on Friday night April 21st at 11:30pm. The bouncer told me my id was “fake” I’m actually 21, and said if I gave him a bl*wjob I could have it back, what a disgusting man!
Went there on St. Patricks, the place looked cool from the outside with a lot of entertainment options. Got inside and went to the bar where it was surrounded with people, then I realized there was only one bartender! I couldnt believe it, literally took 20 minutes for him to get to me and then another 10 to pour a tap beer. They have a ton of specialty cocktails, but it doesnt matter if they cant keep up with the customers. Ill never go back.
Excellent value on Thursdays; truly a top notch campus dance bar. Whiskeys is a strong contender for Madisons most iconic bar, but the live bands and preference for country music prevent this stalwart from sweeping the board. If they played more popular music, they would easily be the best bar in town. Already probably the most popular, Whiskey Jacks could force a serious shutout if they updated the theme a bit and played more popular music. Despite the huge dance floor, unparalled drink selection, and good variety of bar games, I prefer Dannys despite the higher prices. Whiskeys makes a strong case for their superiority, but Madison country bars dont hold their own like they used to.
I do not understand how a big bar on the busiest street in Madison offers fried foods/wings but has one air fryer? A group next to us ordered wings and they each got their orders 10 minutes in between each other. We ordered drinks and mozzarella sticks. After about 30 minutes the bartender tells us “bad news but the person in front of you ordered mozzarella sticks too and that was our last ones”. We actually ordered before the table that ordered them but the waitress never put in our order. The service was extremely slow and there was never a bartender to be found. Extremely disappointed and will not be going back.
Awesome music throughout the night with darts, pool, and plenty of fun! Met some great people and the staff was polite and quick to help with whatever was needed.
As paying customers apparently walking tourists get more respect than paying customers ... We were about to be asked to leave over a walking pedestrian disrespecting the establishment. If the bouncer and owner want to side with a random over a person than a person spends a dime at this place I’d rather eat somewhere else.. won’t see me back here again. Service was slow on a Thursday too
As an Italian exchange student in Madison, I love this place! Cheap drinks, good mood, friendly staff.Mike (one of the bouncers at the entrance) has been extremely kind last night, so huge shout out to him. If you are in Madison, give this place a try!
Apparently they listen to what other people say no matter the truth..got accused of not feeling well by someone I don’t know and I was asked to leave..I was perfectly fine and spent a good amount of time and money here. This had been the second bad interaction I have had at this place. If you don’t go to UW Madison they really do not care about you. Plenty of other places to give your money and have fun at. NOT THIS ONE.
Went there on my 21st birthday and they didnt even let my group of 28 in. They carded us at the door but said we had to deep of purses to be let in. We asked for the manager and the bouncer replied with its our new policy. Manager didnt come so we ended up leaving. It was a real disappointment. But we went to red rock saloon and had a blast!
Favorite Madison bar and been coming here for years, but got kicked out because I called a younger girl out for being too into herself and she didn’t like it. Fun college vibe, but just wish they let me tell my side before kicking me out instead of her.
Denied me despite having a real ID and being 21. I asked to speak to a manager and the bouncer said he was the manager despite not being able to recognize my real ID. I threatened to call the police and he said I had an attitude and he couldnt let me in regardless. Do not go here if youre underage. Do not go here if you are 21 because you might not get in anyways. The management doesnt know how to recognize a real ID and was rude when I asked for a second opinion. Has good deals on Thursdays but the bouncers are poorly trained and unprofessional.
Have been a regular at Whiskey Jacks the past 3 years. Never had a problem with service as a rule. Especially on Thursday nights, the female bartenders are very good a dealing with the craziness that night.Dress code is common sense, and anything BUT “racist”.Bartenders for the most part are willing to be nice, as long as you are respectful to them.
Prices aren’t competitive and they charge you $5 to get in if you don’t have a student ID. They’re a dingy college bar, but won’t let you in if you’re wearing sweatpants/joggers. They have poorly maintained black jack machines and dart boards. They also have pool and two basketball ball machines. If you want to ride the bull machine it’s not even worth it unless your female, the bull controller dips anyone who isn’t female real quick. They have good shots, but they’re overpriced.
Our bartender Atticus was super nice and extremely accommodating he even told us some silly jokes. For the last dozen plus years this place has been a daytime stop when we do a Madison day trip so whiskey jacks has been a staple but this time the place stood out its always been great but this time it was top notch
It was a Sunday and not many people, but we still had walk up to the bar and order drinks every time we wanted one. They charged my card for someone elses tap. They did let me know what they had done and voided the transaction so they were honest about it.
The day manager/bartender discriminates against male patrons to rent the upstairs rooms. . It is also my very humble opinion, that only girls are allowed to live in the rooms upstairs. It makes you wonder why.
A friend of mine wore joggers & the bouncer said they dont allow that type of clothing in their bar. So dont come here if youre wearing any type of pants like joggers. Ive never heard of such thing from any bar in Madison.
Great customer service. Friendly bartenders, great selection of beer. The mechanical bull was great to ride, and could be ridden by anybody. The operator controls it accordingly. Overall I had a great time.
They took my friends real ID and called me and her names outside of the bar. They told me to buy them vapes to get the ID back even though it was rightfully hers and once i returned I saw my friend sitting outside crying. They called her names and made fun of her appearance and it was honestly sickening. I hope they do something about these bouncers…
Didnt get invited to the local frat house party? Missing drinking out of solo cups? Are your shoes not sticking to the floor enough? Then come on down to Whiskey Jacks and relive all the...parts of the college experience. Perhaps its personal opinion and not a failure of the establishment, but Ive been here several times and never been impressed. Dont bother ordering anything other than whats on tap or straight from the bottle because mixing drinks boils down to pouring two liquids together. On busy nights, expect to wait for service even if you are at the bar. Poor experience, but then again, Im not the target demographic, so keep that in mind.
Its funny how they said they had a issue with me from a week back but i hadnt been to the bar for months. ( when asked about proof or when i asked for their names, they dared to assault me verbally) But from what i seen, they said this to multiple latinos,They decided it was ok to deny and harass a health worker, who saw more then 6 violations and 3 covid related issues. All will be reported to the city of madison. If your from a latino heritage do not, and i mean do not attend this bar. Wiskeys saloon should not benefit from our people
This place used to be an awesome place to grab a few drinks and shoot pool. Now its turned into a club for the most annoying types of college drinkers that they brought in the feared mechanical bull. More guys ride that puppy than women, and they have horrible shot combos that have to be ordered in pairs, turning one shot into two and charging you for both. As well as having minimums at the bar, meaning a 6 dollar whiskey and coke (what youd pay including the tip for typical rail drinks) is now a $10 drink !!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR EVER!!!!!
This is a country themed college bar. They dont serve food but have a great selection of shots and tapped beer as one would expect from a UW area bar. Good luck to ya if you hop on the mechanical bull.
This bar is nothing special but if youre looking to play a quick game of pool this is the place. Theyre not longboard/skateboard friendly so leave them in the car. And the security arent very friendly and there is a cover charge some days which is just ridiculous. I dont recommend going to this bar.
Nice bar, music was decent. One problem (honestly, nbd) but the floors are consistently sticky. Every time Ive gone there. Without fail. Still 5/5 recommend
To make your night out amazing and full of memories in downtown Madison, you have to go here. Pool tables, darts, DJs, drinks and much more. Nice and cozy environment with friendly staff
I came here to watch the Wisconsin/LSU game. I came up to the bar and noticed a delicious smell. I asked the bartender what was good on the food menu. He pointed to the menu, and said Food Menu. Thinking he misheard me, I said, No, what would you recommend. He pointed at the menu and simply walked away. You lost a food order and many extra drink purchases.
Only complaint is simply the lack of ample seating for the crowds who frequent here. I nevee see anyone playing the arcade/basketball games near the enterance which could easily be used for booths. Huge speciality drink selection makes you forget about the seating issues quickly.
The bartender closed my tab with out my awareness and kept my card. she then opened a new tab with my card. i didn’t mind as it was a silly mistake and i gave a 20% tip of the total amount i paid on one receipt. my credit card account shows that they charged me $4 more than i signed for. i’ve waitressed in the past and never would i think to be that low to add money onto the amount the customer signed for. is it even legal? if you lose your receipt it’s on you! you cannot just guess you got a 50% tip. don’t make the customer pay for your mistakes. i’m too nervous to go back there because they could just continue to steal from customers for tips. :(
Doorman don’t listen to their management. There is a racist doorman name Zac who is the only person who won’t let me from something that happen about 5-6 months ago just taking everything to personal and having a power out rage. Went there to talk to the managers and they told me they will let me in went there yesterday and when I told the doorman zac about this he refuse to get his manager and let me in. He told me “I can’t take your word for that” when I told him to call his manager he told me “if he doesn’t know you are here we won’t know I didn’t let you in”. Didn’t want to deal with his childish behavior so we ended up going to the double u highly recommended and if you want a country bar that treats there paying customer good would highly recommend red rock.
Around 2:00pm today (6-30-2018) my husband and I waited at a table for at least 20 minutes for someone to wait on us.My husband waved a huge swing of the arm wave three different times at the girl behind the bar to get her attention, who was just standing there doing nothing at that moment. She choose to ignore us so I walked up to the bar and asked her if she was just choosing to ignore us as there was no way she didn’t notice us sitting there for at least 20 minutes or my husband waving at her three different times trying to get her attention or was she going to come take our order?!She replied by saying, oh you have to come up to the bar to order anything.SERIOUSLY! We are from out of state, not locals and I would know this how?!I guess it was to much of an effort on her behalf to walk over to our table and politely tell us this?!Instead she makes remarks about us to a couple sitting at the bar and they all start laughing, of course we got up and walked out, wouldn’t you?!We went next door for a wonderful lunch and great service.
I know Covid policies are important, but being polite in enforcing these rules is much more effective. Being rude and disrespectful makes me never want to visit this bar again. Even in non-covid times. Please avoid for now.
Fun college type bar. They have a bull you can ride for free or donate money for. Everyone is friendly and they have live bands. Great place to go with a group and lots of space
I was on a pub crawl. I went up to the bar and asked the bartender how much is a bud light with my wrist band? He walked away without saying a word and served someone else. Worst service Ive EVER received. my party also got fart gassed the entire time. I will never spend another dollar at this establishment. Stay away!!
On most weeknights, Whiskey Jacks is a calm and friendly establishment where you can enjoy a drink or two on State Street. But if it is Friday or Saturday night, I suggest avoiding it. Whiskey Jacks is no-frills, which can be a plus for some establishments, but for a college bar, it means every 21-year-old is going to flock there to get schwasted at some point during the night. If you are in college, this may be your place, but if you are not, you will probably want to avoid the crowds, blaring music, and limited seating area.
Cool atmosphere but on 2/29/2020 there was a security guard that decided to haul ice and restock cups after using the bathroom without washing his hands with soap. He had short black hair...really gross
Personally, I always have the best time at Whiskey Jacks. Games, Bull on weekends, live music, and lots of alcohol. As long as everyone is having a good time as well, theres no trouble. But security on scene if needed.
Very busy on weekend nights and most likely has a line. Gets a little sticky on the floor and the wait for drinks can take a while. Overall a great place if you want to go somewhere fun at night.
Depends its kind of a hit or miss depending on the day, time you go, whos bouncing. They do offer a wonderful dance floor however so if you like to shake your hips, drop by real quick!
We went in on a Wednesday night. My friends dragged me here. I already wasnt frilled about going here (we passed by one night and they were making you pay a cover charge to just get in... Something I will never pay), and since it was their birthday I followed them in. The gentleman behind the counter was fairly rude. He told us waters were a $1 each and wasnt kidding. Yet he still didnt charge us for them. We were confused. I decided I would just grab a tallboy PBR, which was $4 something. He opened the tab of the beer and I gave him my card, and then told me there was a $10 minimum on cards. Great. I only want one drink, and have to drive home in a bit, I do not want to buy $10 woth of drinks. Thankfully a friend just gave me cash. Something I almost never carry.I sugest avoiding this placs if you just want to enjoy a bar.
This was not what I expected at all..... they said live music, the guy stunk no talent me and my buddy sat waiting for our drinks for over 10 min. the only good thing about this place was the shots girl who felt bad and gave us a free shot, other than that not the best bar in mad town!
If I could I would give 0 stars,No respect for foreign personnel,They tried to teach us their reason, but it didn’t make sense at all.No respect for people who are not Americans. Please don’t go there
I typically only go on Tuesday nights for karaoke but I love going! Great bartenders and great DJ! Also, great drink specials. Also also, great place to dance!
Whenever Im feeling down and doubting myself, I like to visit this bar and watch guys akwardly ride the mechanical bull. Seeing them make fools of themselves make me think, Well at least youre not that douchebag on the bull.
My significant other was bounced from this bar for using the stall to pee. Im beyond mortified that such a small minded establishment would discriminate so harshly in such a supposedly open-minded community
Karaoke was amazing! Set up was wonderful! Love the big bar and great crowd! Good specials on beer and shots! Enjoy
Bartender got mad cause I asked him what lagers he had on tap. Asked about the shot menu. He complained that I was asking too many questions. But he made sure to tell me hes bartending for 20 years. Yeah, maybe theres a reason were the only 2 customers in here.
We had a giant group that wanted to do karaoke, which Whiskey Jacks had on a Tuesday, and it was awesome! Everyone had so much fun and enjoyed the drink specials.
Just a regular bar. Outside of the weekend its not that fun. The dart boards and pool tables are old and gross. The only thing this place had going for it was great bartenders
Nice beer selection and shot collection but it really is a party bar once the night gets going. Go early if you don’t want the college party crowd.
Awesome live music and big bar that can accommodate a lot of people
College bar. Really good bar vibes but terrible music. As of 2023 If you graduated in 2008 this bar is for you.
Its was the best..the service was excellent, the drinks were delicious and reasonable. The atmosphere was fun n lively with sports on all TVs. I had the best time. Thank you for a night to remember!!
Got booted 20 minutes before close and the bartender... Short chubby guy... Said they close whenever they want... I asked if i closed my check he said yes... I asked if i tipped good he said i dont know get out... Wont be back... Thank you for my business... Guy was also training other bartenders...
Aside from their obviously racist dress code posted on their door, they tap their craft beer kegs with cheaper beer. Youre not getting Blue Moon, youre getting Coors Light. Be careful
I was in town visiting & had a great time. The bartenders were fantastic and the DJ had it live in there. There was also a mechanical bull the night I was there.
Gets ridiculously busy on weekends. Go to Whiskeys if you want a packed dance floor, dangerously loud music, and a mechanical bull. Or, go Thursday nights for cheap drinks and games.
Manager or owner? Kept touching me in line and wouldnt stop. Told him to stop while I was in line and he told the bouncer to not let me in because I asked him to not touch me. Would not recommend this place ever.
I only gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because the mechanical bull is not set up in the traditional bull riding style. Its just a rope you have to hold on to. And they dont have wifi, so I have to stand by the windows at the front of the saloon to get/send messages
Bouncer didn’t let a homeless dude in purely because he was homeless. We asked him if there was anything we could do and he just denied it.
My buddy and I went there for the billiards and whiskey during day. It must rock during the weekends in this University town. The tables had seen better days but the whiskey worked.
They will judge you how you dress! thats so sad in the 21 century! If you are females you are good to go! If you a guy not so much! They have a type for guys if you do not fit in, you will not go in! 😪😑🙁
Decent State St bar. If youre a grumpy old shut-in like me, its too crowded when UW students are in town. Shots shots shots shots shots...they have a lot of them.
Had a great time. Very friendly staff. Cute girls. Good strong drinks. Next time in in Madison Ill be back.
Have to bring two forms of ID if Terrence the night DJ is working and your transgender. Very rudely attempted to escort me and my partner out before other bargirls intervened.
Went twice. Once with a riding bull and 2nd with live rock band. Drinks are good and ok prices. Had a great time
Best place on State Street for drinks and food. Great live entertainment every Saturday night. Fun, secure, friendly, clean...
Was having a nice time. Until my friend wasnt let in because of their very specific dress code. It isnt a dress code that is as simple as business casual. It is very specific. Think about it.
Drinks are unreasonably expensive, even for downtown Madison. Usually so busy that it takes about 30 min to get a drink. Constantly strong odor of a mixture of sweat and regrets.
Visited late on Halloween night. Full of fun silly people. The bouncer was a very nice and helpful lady.
Owner was very rude. When I tried to order food he spit in my drink and called me racial slurs that was crazy and i will not return.
This place is a joke. The bartender didnt even hardly speak English. This is not a western bar anymore. Pretty pathetic.
College bar with pool tables and dart boards and the typical live college crowd. Badgers fans enjoyed their victory earlier on the day
Clubs gets busy around midnight, drink prices are reasonable, 5$ cover except for students.
Good service! Drinks are good! Service was great! Needs a new floor. But other then that. Not a bad place
Younger crowd. Very loud obnoxious yet entertaining. Pricey, 2 pool tables, bands and a bull every now and then.
Great college bar, tons of weekly/daily specials and the atmosphere is for someone that wants a good time!
I like the atmosphere here much better than places like double u. It also helps I dont have to wait in a line very much, to get in or to get drinks.
Great service. Lots of fun with pool tables and dance floor. Gets a little crowded but still real fun.
Free Mechanical Bull and no cover for students. They have a huge shot menu (2 shots minimum) but they are $5 a piece.
No sweatpants allowed? Since when. Rude to customers. Never going back.
This place has a really fun atmosphere that includes having the music videos of the songs playing, and waitresses that carry around drink specials.
Hmm. This place was alright, but nothing special. Definitely not a place to go for food, but a bar. Seems a little strange at first.
They have a large selection of whiskey, beer, and specialty shots. The kitchen is good, too.
Pool, dancing, and whiskey. Pretty busy with college kids during the school season, kinda slow in the offseason. Its got a big country mood to it if thats what your into.
At the bar the barman was not so kind, maybe he was under stress because he was alone in a huge place. Anyway the have good beers, old pool tables
That was a blast! Great bartenders, wonderful security, and the dj wasnt a douche! What more can you ask for? 😜
Good dance floor and games, but in my experience the worst bartending in Madison (probably understaffed).
They advertise drink specials on Facebook and on their website. Went there in person and the owner told me they dont honor those and dont know how to update their website.
Worst pub, do not ever try to put your money for your favorite song in the jukebox, it takes your money, never plays it and when you ask about your song they say your song is in the playlist and someone has paid to skip your song, they are crook, do not ever waste your money, drinks are watery and you will feel a wasted night.
Me a buddy of mine when there to see a comedy show on Sunday night. We had a great experience!
The only place on state street that lets you be crazy and everyone pretends to not notice your weirdness until theyre tempted to join in. Ilovethisplace once an employee forever a patron
Terrible service and rude staff. If you like drunk 19 year olds puking on the floor and hate humanity then this is the place for you.
Nice open spot for a Badger tailgate! Get there early so you dont have to wait at the bar. 😊
Fantastic DJ and overall great Thursday atmosphere. Great college scene.
Horrible service lately on multiple occasions we have waited over an hour to get our first drink when seated outside.
Best club to go to in Madison for the weekend. It was always super fun everytime I went there with my friends.
Fun Bar with amazing selection of beer. Great nightly specials especially on Thursdays!
College bar. Completely understaffed on the Saturday the Badgers played Michigan, so ordering a beer was painful.
Its a nice spot to hang out and get drinks. It is big and open. The have frozen cocktails.
Fun college town bar.
Easily the worst bartenders on state street. Terrible bar would steer clear at all costs
Great drinks, very different drinks made and served, cool bartenders that know their job well!!!!
Country rock bar, fast service, many options for drinks and very energetic young crowd
Best night of my life. Best live band Ive seen and great night life experience
Great place, live music, dj, dance floor, cheap drinks ($2 jamo) from 9-11.
If i can sum up whiskey jacks in 5 words: terrible service and sticky floors. -2/10 would not reccomend
Cool University bar. Bartender was very friendly and accommodating.
Bartender was great.
Dress code is horrible, denied my friend entrance for VERY SPECIFIC reasons. WillNot return.
Variety of shots to select.Played bball.Pool and Boxing punch game..Cool time.
Great deals ($0.25 drinks) on Thursdays, great atmosphere.
Great staff and awesome specials! Free bull riding and live music every weekend!
Fun drink menu but service was not quite on point.
An ok place, didnt have pool tables and their dart machine was acting funny.
When I was a young boy my friends and I would drink whiskey while we played jax so this place takes me back. #nostalgia
We come for the Wham Bam Tailgate Jam, but stay because of the awesome staff!
The bar was incredibly hot that night with an insane amount of people
Fun place near campus to have some drinks and play pool.
How does a bar that only offers fried food only have a single air fryer. Woof
They will give you the most expensive option if you ask for Vodka. Be sure to ask for the cheap stuff.
Love going to this place the owner is a great guy to talk and joke around with service is great and i overall just love it here
Awesome bartenders! Never felt like I was waiting for a drink.
My favorite place in Madison. Wonderful people who treat you awesome!
If you like country music this is the bar for you... if not, I do not recommend
Best job Ive had and you are appreciated for what you do unlike PER MAR SECURITY!!
Im from Michigan and Shelby remembered me. She is awesome!😁
Decent college bar with many pool tables, Darts, and other festivities
Great experience and atmosphere! The mechanical bull was an excellent addition.
Good Madison college bar with a mechanical bull to ride. Gets pretty wild in there
Great beer selection and amazing whiskey for a college bar.
Great bartenders. Nice place. Its huge.
Excellent drinks at a good Madison price.Crazy on Game Day!
Live music, darts, dancing. Typical college bar that doesnt disappoint
Fun atmosphere, affordable drinks, good music
I love karaoke Tuesdays with DJ Rip and bartender Steve
Not a single mask being worn by staff or patrons. Pretty pathetic
Nice place but I miss the pub. Will be back!
Great selection of draft brews and personable bartenders
Only go on Thursdays when the drinks are cheap enough to overcome the racist clientele
Great live music when i was there. Had an amazing time.
Great College Bar with an interesting se lo ection of shots.
Went and got a drink, had a good time playing the table. good vibs
In Madison out for birthday party stopped in had a drink
Good service, happy they have security there.
The staff does not know how to work the entire bar just one corner.
Big venue. We had a really good time.
Took my REAL ID and refused to give it back. ligma
Great place to go to see live music
Nice bar, good place to watch a game
GREAT BAR! OMG! So much fun.
Nice ambience on the new years eve....energetic crowd
Nice place but not crowded well enough
Had a 20 year old spill a beer on me and I was kicked out.
The mechanical bull is a lot of fun to ride.
Good place. Expected better music.
Love this place!!!! It’s always a good time!
Nothing special today, pool tables are a mess
Love this place...check out the shot menu!
