Small theater with a lot of classic charm. Good acoustics. Balcony available and wet bar near the back. No seats. The back half of the main level is terraced with. High top tables. Good acoustics. Bathrooms located under the stage were adequate the night I was there, but likely would require waiting during a packed house. No parking available specific to this venue. Small public garage located 3 blocks away.
What a great small venue! Drove in from Chicago area to see Leisure and loved it. Started out towards the back, and ended up hanging out stageside. Walking distance from a number of eating establishments. We had dinner at Canteen. Bathrooms setup well. Bartenders friendly. Bouncer dude guarding people from going too close to the stage was not very friendly- purposely picking on a number of guests. Concert and sound system was great- would return!
The staff are great and make you feel very safe. Beautiful theater! Cant wait to come back here again! Its the ideal place for a concert.
I love the Majestic theater! It’s funky and funny and beautiful and joyously authentic!Last night I attended Carnaval 2023 at the majestic theater and although the space is not a perfect audio place like a symphony hall, the majestic is a perfect place for a community to party! There live music filled the space wonderfully, and the various levels of seating that surround the dance pit make people watching and being watched by people glorious! The stage and the audience spaces are so intimately close that it feels like every person Is together face to face and shoulder to shoulder…. Other performers and viewers. It makes everything feel so deliciously alive! The Two bars create very different experiences, and both just thrum with energy as does the entire venue. The subterranean bathrooms are a little rustic and limited, but generally well kept.I love this place for the texture, energy, and joy of it!
The majestic is a GREAT venue. Ive seen numerous events here and always had a great time. Like with all venues though, be careful of the shows you go to. Live Nation and Ticketmaster are still out there ruining live music and events.
Ive seen four shows there and the light and sound design are always great. On my most recent visit my friend became sick during the opening band. The staff helped us walk outside for air, assured us that we would be welcome back in, gave us a free bottle of water, and helped us find a seat upstairs once my buddy could breath again. They didnt have to do any of that. They were so kind and so friendly.
Great Concerts, lots of people. It was alot of fun. One thing that could be better there no chairs to sit you have to stand the whole time no where to put your coats if you wear a rain jacket either and if you have other things.
My favorite Madison venue for concerts. It can get tight when its a full house so it helps to arrive early if you want to post up near the stage. Plenty of good spots to see and hear the artists. They have a decent beer selection too.
Really nice theater and had a great time at a concert there. The location was great and had no problems getting there. The only downside is when the concert was over they had the place where you get the merch right next to the building exit so it got really crowded at the end and made it difficult to buy the merch.Very good lights, atmosphere, local little place ! Would go here again and again!
No elevator...suspect av...half the time the upstairs bar isnt open. no vip waitstaff. Doesnt take cash?? They are so lucky there isnt much competition...wait...there is none as FPC owns all the venues except the Burr oak and the Barrymore. It should be so much better than it is. Its a staple so it survives. Be better. Please.
Went to the “idk how” concert and it was SO oversold. We were standing in a spot with several other random people and several staff members had no problem. However after the entire opener and third song to the main act we were all asked to move however because it was over sold there was no where to go. There was one young man who was working who was SOOOO incredibly helpful and went out of his way to find us an open spot. He however was the only person who helped us when we were running around like headless chickens. In the future I will be activity avoiding seeing people at this theater. Because according to other people at the concert it seems like this venue tends to have their sold out shows oversold and honestly this just seems like a safety concern and not fair to everyone who paid a good chunk of money to be here.
Amazing and historic little theater which was WAY more intimate than I was anticipating! We saw Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness there a couple of weeks ago and got so close to the stage, the band could see us taking photos (see second photo below). It was such a great surprise - our ears weren’t ringing afterwards and exiting was very controlled and calm.We drove from Milwaukee so we weren’t drinking, but the drinks were all really reasonably priced, too.
My first experience at the Majestic Theatre was to see Gus Dapperton perform, it was an incredible experience. the environment was really unique, it’s a small venue but that is not a bad thing at all! our concert felt so intimate and up close and personal with all of the artists on stage. we were all happy with the sound quality too.
I love the Majestic for the intimate feel! The only negative is expensive/not great variety of drinks, but thats pretty typical for concert venues.
This is a neat venue. It’s an intimate place to see your favorite artists coming through Madison! There are some seats by the bar and upstairs, but be prepared to stand. My only complaint is their consistency with their bag policy. My wife had to throw away her purse because it was too big. However, we stepped inside and noticed that a number of the guests had similar sized bags, and some even bigger. We felt a bit slighted that she had to surrender her bag. It just seems like they randomly choose who to inconvenience.
One of my favorite venues, they have incredible lighting for photographers to get very well lit shots. They have seating sections so you can sit and sip on a drink, or a very large dance floor so you can be up and close to the performance.
This was my first time at the theatre. Perfect size for an intimate concert, not too big. Sound was great. The staff was great even though we had a little hiccup getting in but after that it was great (Guest list for the band). I would definitely come back. Great location to have dinner before show as well.
I love this venue. Accoustics sound so nice at the majestic Large enough to fit some of the biggest performers. Small enough you can get up close and personal to the performance. My wife and I saw the awesome opening female group Bones kick ass and warm up the crowd, followed by one of our favorite bands of all time Highly Suspect. They did not disappoint. The venue was sold out that night, and we would go back in a heartbeat to see a show and to have that close proximity relation to the stage and band.
Went to see The Band Perry! The theater has several tiers for standing, plus a decent spot in front of the stage to see the performance. Drinks there are kind of pricey though. Glad I dont drink alcohol much, as even a bottle of water is $3. Granted, its not your standard point bottle, but its still kind of high for water. Was not disappointed in the band, other than they only did a 1 hour set. They did some new music, some of their country as well.
A quality music venue thats been in madison a long time. Beautiful inside. Three main complaints. They no longer take cash, the upstairs is rarely open which sucks because its a great place to view the show, and they have chairs next to the downstairs bar which is just ridiculous. So many more people could stand there compared to sitting..
Its a really neat venue! They always have cool events going on and great concerts. There is a main floor and then there is seating upstairs. Youll need to get ramp parking and if the band is sold out, warning, the dance floor will be packed
This place is wildly beautiful! My first trip down was for their bluegrass fest and it was sold out! Amazing energy, great bands, comfortable seating, and easily accessible bars.Close to the capital, right off Washington, friendly staff, and very well organized for guests and bands coming in.Its truely and amazing venue.
Great intimate venue. Went and saw basement last night whom were great. However people from the crowd started crowd surfing which is fine but they continued to be thrown up on stage and touching band members. They also dived back into parts of the crowd whom had no interest in catching them and looked to hurt people who did not want to be part of the pit. The band seemed to want to get out of there quicker and lost some energy from there very positive energy at the start. Security seemed to have no interest in stopping this. It very much took away from the experience and would have been better if security would have done anything to prevent what was happening.
The 4 star rating is for the quality of acts, not necessarily the for the sight lines. Generally, the lower level is for standing and the upper level is for general admission seating. The seats upstairs range from decent to seats were you can’t see the stage. I usually don’t buy tickets until close to the show date. If the show is sold out, there are way too many people jammed in there.
Great venue! Intimate shows that sound great. Awesome drink selections.
I love this venue. Wide variety of shows and the building is an awesome relic of the past.
We have been going to this show for a few years now. Joe Scalisi does a great job at Dean Martin, and he was great last night. Normally we like to get there early when the the Majestic theater opens at 7:00pm so that we can get a good seat on the main floor up close to the stage. This year, however, the Majestic theater did not provide any chairs on the main floor as they always have in past years. This made for an unpleasant personal experience as we had to wait over two hours for the show to start. We instead opted to go upstairs, which has obstructed views. I hope the theater includes chairs for us older fans again in the future.
Cozy and beautiful place with a great team that runs the venue.
The Majestic has always been a favorite of mine ever since I went to my first show around 3 years ago. The small and intimate venue is special and magical. There are levels to dance/sit/drink etc. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the establishment is always clean. I was here lastnight for a show and wanted to write a review and say THANK YOU. I have been diabetic over 20 years and always try to be very prepared. Unfortunately, the last few days Ive had some unexpected complications, making things that much more unpredictable. Upon getting into the show, my levels dropped significantly very, very quickly. I had a lot of low snacks in my bag, and went through way more than expected quickly. When I needed more, I realized I had one package of fruit snacks left. I started to feel worried. I took it out to realize the package was defective and only had 4 gummies in it instead of the normal amount. Instantly I wasnt sure what to do. My boyfriend acted quickly and went to the back bar upstairs, he had a few drinks so Im sure he was a little hard to understand but he asked the bartender for something to help. She acted very quickly and got it. She checked in a few times as I was sitting there to see if she could get me anything else. I felt ashamed I hadnt had what I needed in the moment, but I was beyond grateful because this bartender helped save my life during a very unexpected moment. She was friendly and kind as well. I unfortunately didnt catch her name, but she was dressed up for Halloween in a red wig. :) Thank you!!!!!!
Great shows but the staff are a terrible, they put a damper on any fun
Cool venue with good security, good event organization, and speaker/lights were both good
Over crowed a wedding party in the space, leaving many to stand after dinner and the no room to set up appetizers with an over crowed bar. The bathroom left much to be desired, and the mens restroom is propped open for all passing by to view everything, yes everything. The wedding was beautiful so overall a good experience.I wonder if the paint is lead based?
E🅱️icStaff was great, bartender was out of the park good. Bartender dude didnt laugh when my friend tripped.Lights and sound were top of the morning lads.Band was okay.Crew were specktacular. That long haired dude on stage platform thing (sound guy) was even eating a burrito! One mighty lad.I didnt so die thats 10/5 starts from me!
So, recently saw a fav band at Majestic. Our first time there. Had a bit of a heart stroke issue and all of the staff treated me with patience, respect, and dignity. Im so appreciative. Im sure it was very stressful for them. One of them even found a chair and place for me to continue to watch the performance. Even without the awesome help, enjoyed this venue.
Saw Patton Oswalt here once. He was good then and he was good at the Comedy Club not too long ago. This place is sick. Good Music and service.
Small venue. Not a bad seat anywhere. Staff there was friendly.
There were way too many people in the concert I was at. It felt very unsafe.
Great venue. The staff here are excellent. Big thank you to Jadon, Juanita (Jaunita?), and Chris for the work they do. You guys are rockstars! Cant thank you enough.
Sound from stage excellent though suspect the band had a big part. Nice venue. They used to have 25 oz beers, but broke my heart n discontinued. Had a lot of fun there.
A very intimate stage. General admission on the floor, seats on the balcony. Its a bit cramped, but lends to the close to the music vibe. Acoustic wise, its not great but its still a blast. Ive seen Imelda May and Frank Turner here, and loved both events. Their friendly and professional staff really helps that. Cant recommend enough! Plus, plenty of reasonable paid parking within walking distance, in a decent part of town.
One of my favorite places in the world. Definitely my favorite music venue. I have made some of my best memories here and seen some of my favorite artists. I love being able to be so close to the stage and therefore so close to the music. The staff is always super friendly, fun and helpful. I have nothing but good things to say - this place is magic.
Best in the midwest! Perfect size venue, for small and large acts. Bartenders are great, bouncers are great, the variety of music they select is also great. Seen everything from punk to bluegrass, funk to house, indie to jammy. Always a night to remember
Won tickets to the Brian Culbertson concert, 2nd row center! Very nice venue to see a show. Parking is very limited though so be aware.
Cool music venue. Came here to see Too Many Zooz and had a great time. There is seating upstairs with open seating- I would imagine that may depend on the show. It was great to be able to sit down and chill. Although if you are on the left you might have a blocked view. The staff was chill and the crowd was cool. The sound was really nice in the space. The bar selection was good- nothing crazy, but a few drafts and bottles and full bar. They accept cards and cash- which was nice. I had a great time and would definitely go back for other events.
The event I went to was great and I had allot of fun . The bathrooms were super dirty and the event ended at midnight . The manger told us we needed to get out and couldn’t even wait ten minutes inside for an Uber . It was freezing cold and snowing outside not to mention there were people still buying stuff inside so it wasn’t like we were the last ones there . The event was great the staff was rude !
We had a wonderful time at funk fest. Its always a great time at majestic theater!! 😊
Absolutely fantastic venue for seeing your favorite artists. Ive gone here 3 times in the past couple months and every single show was great.
This was my first time at the Majestic. Loved the intimate feel of the place--felt like the band was playing just for me! There is a nice long bar so its easy to get a cocktail, and I really liked the tiered viewing setup for patrons--was easy to see what was happening on stage. The light show was fantastic, and the sound was AMAZING. I will definitely return!
I had my best nights here. Great music quality, nice space, and nice staff. It has an easy entrance process. The lights are cool and the events are well organized. Not expensive the highest I have paid to get in was $30 and it was better than other places where I have paid over $75. Would recommend. Dont hesitate if there is an artist that you would like to see, it will be worth it.
If you go up to the balcony do not get within 100 yards of the railing, dont look at it and certainly dont even breath in the general direction of it! Otherwise youll have the event staff harassing you all night.
Great intimate venue. SSPU concert was awesome!
Ive been to the Majestic a few times during my tenure as a Madison resident. The building itself is well maintained for its age and has a great feel to it. The staff are wonderful, and great at understanding and accommodating the needs of concert attendees as best they can. The only downside as others have mentioned is that the drinks are somewhat over priced, but that seems to be par for the course at most major venues.
Fantastic venue, great crowd and great music. The only downside is drinks were a tad overpriced
One of Madisons very best show venues. There isnt a bad seat in the house. Many of my all time favorite shows are from here, and so many good memories. And not only a good venue but they also give back to the community with their annual outdoor free concert series in the summer too!
Saw Frank Turner and the show was excellent. It was packed so there wasnt really seating but I cant complain. The prices for drinks werent bad for a music venue and they checked everyones immunization status which is important to me. Will go there again.
Always a good place to catch a show. The atmosphere is good, the sound is almost always perfect. They book a variety including local acts and national tours.
Great venue, the sound is great and they attract a lot of really awesome bands. Would be perfect if they opened the upstairs section more often, it can get really crowded in the downstairs when theres a unexpectedly large turnout for a band. Also, $10 minimum for credit on some seriously overpriced drinks really blows.
This is such a great historic Little Theater you are so incredibly close to the artist. It is so intimate and friendly. You definitely get to know your neighbors. The bartenders are quick the drink prices are reasonable. And the parking is always pretty easy with the two parking garages nearby. The variety of shows here is always great.
AMAZING music venue. Beautiful proscenium, good sound, and the multi-level floor plan makes it relatively easy to see the stage even if you dont want to fight your way to the front at a crowded gig... plus the bathrooms are clean, spacious, and brightly lit, which is a nice bonus. Their online customer communication is pretty great, too.One downside is that the bar selection is a bit meh, and rather expensive, even just for a bottle of water, and theyre really strict about not allowing outside water bottles. Also they tend to chase folks out pretty quickly after the bands wrap for the night.
This old 1900s vaudville theater hosts some AWESOME shows these days!!
We were just there last weekend to go and see Space Jesus!! The snow was amazing as was the venue. First time being there and I dont really have any complaints. It would be cool if it were a little bit bigger however it was nice its more of an intimate place. Drinks were nice and not too horribly priced. All in all it was a great time!
Intimate setting gets you up close and personal with the bands. Had a broken ankle, but staff was super friendly and accomodating so i could still go to the show. Highly active, courteous security as well. Id be comfortable bringing my 6 yr old to the balcony for a show.
Great venue! Historic, great artist selections typically and varied in that you can dance near the stage on the first floor or choose traditional theatre seating in the balcony.Fair pricing for entry...high priced drinks. Will return!
I recently moved to Madison from Chicago and am so happy to finally be able to frequent The Majestic. Its wonderful to have the opportunity to see some of my favorite artists in such an intimate setting. Bar and entry lines move very quick and the staff is always so inviting. Looking forward to seeing more shows here!
Visited The Majestic for Cherubs show a few weekends ago! Had an easy time getting into the venue, good experience at bar. Relatively easy to get to the bathrooms, and also has an upstairs for seating if you can’t stand the whole time! The show was not sold out so I cannot speak to how the venue would be for the capacity but this night was very nice. Still crowded but not- not manageable!
I went to the STRFKR show at Majestic. It was not the first time I had been to the theatre but, as always, I enjoyed my experience there. The crowd always seems so happy and friendly. I have worked at a music venue in the past and can say that not all crowds are pleasant to interact with. Maybe it is the shows I go to at the Majestic. Anyway, the bar staff was great. Very happy and quick to serve you. The security was polite, even when telling me I couldnt stand on the stairwell (oops). I go through the door very quickly and the security folks there were nice when they greeted me. They were effective but not overly intrusive with their searches. The ladies bathroom was very clean for a concert venue. The mens room smelled like a bucket of pee from the hallway, but there is probably no avoiding that. Love that there is a second floor with seating and a bar. Of course, I will return for more shows. its a perk that the venue is so well run. Oh, and the staff were very helpful with a few folks who overheated or were too drunk. They seemed to really care about the well being of their patrons.Four out of five stars because its not very easy to get around if you are on the lower level, in the pit. There are a lot of railings that force you to only a few exit points. With a lot of people and the railings, its hard to move around and once you leave the floor, it doesnt feel like you can get back into the crowd.
A quaint, intimate concert venue. Just like all concert venues, the drinks are overpriced. The seating is okay. The dancefloor could be bigger. But, so long as an appropriate sized artist is playing, then this is a beautiful and fun venue. Theres definitely a ceiling as to how loud music can be played while still sounding good. The same goes for the amount of people.Overall, its a cool stage and great theater for up and coming, local, or fringe artists. Just dont expect anyone super famous to play there.
Awesome historic-feeling venue. Yay coat check! Bar is cash or credit. Really good size with not too far or too close seating options. standing room up front makes you feel intimately close to performers. They also have move nights. A great variety of events.
So I went for the Rocky Horror Picture show and it was an awesome event. They bartenders where great and Velvet Darkness put on a show to remember. Only issues was that they were late with letting us in and the front said no bags but I saw others bring then in. Also they had not made clear what props we were allowed. But I will definitely be back it was an amazing place and I look forward to attending other events!
The venue was great! Option to sit or stand, without paying differently, was great. The sound was really well balanced for the performers we saw. Drinks were fairly reasonable. Would happily return for another show.
Drinks are like $9 and the music blows
Really nice venue, but they had to have sold past their fire code. It mustve been 95 degrees indoors in December and there wasnt even enough space to make it to the bar to get a drink. All the aisles were packed despite their poor attempts to keep them clear.
I saw Hobo Johnson, Silk Animus, and Nat Lefkoff play live. It was an absolutely amazing experience with 2 artists opening whose music was so well made that they could start their own tour. Hobo Johnson was absolutely astounding and the venue played a great part in how intimate of setting it could be that he could talk and touch his fans at front of stage and speak clearly without a mic to those in the very back. If you get a chance to experience a live event, go to Majestic, they catered to so many people quickly and provided such a great space for everyone to experience these artists so closely.
Visited 5/8/2016 for STRFKR concertPrice - 5 Stars - $44.04 for two tickets plus 3 $ for parking - I feel pretty reasonable compared to Chicago prices. Parking at the lot was a easy in and out. I am assuming most people walked there. The beer was reasonable like 6 bucks for a tall bud light. Beer was cold. $50 for 2 t-shirts was the most expensive part but that might have been set by the band. I still got them.Size/Bathroom - 4 Stars - I believe they hold 600 people, while the front was packed I got a good spot with a good view next to the bar. The bar was not super hot which I appreciated. The bathroom was fine for a concert hall.Concert - 4 Stars - While they got off with a little sound issues after 2 songs everything was great. The lighting was really cool.Overall - I give it 5 stars because I had a great time, everything was better than I would expect. The staff was friendly. It was easy to get around and get what you needed like a beer or T shirt. No lines at the bar was nice. Parking was a breeze. I would visit again but it is a little far from where I live.
Good venue right downtown. Surrounded by a number of great bars and restaurants. Good sound quality in a smaller setting. Great place to attend a concert! Multiple terraces within the venue make every spot a good place to enjoy the music!
Much too crowded for the amount of standing room there was. They should just sell less tickets so that all the attendees would have a little more elbow room. Also, this probably wasnt the venues fault, but the band we saw was way too loud for that small, intimate space.
I always have a fantastic time at the majestic. I really enjoy this venue, its not too big that you feel lost in a crowd but not too small that its stuffy or claustrophobic. The staff are always friendly and tickets are usually reasonable.
Not my favorite place to see a show. The venue its self is beautiful but incredibly small. Large name bands that draw a decent size crowd do not make for a good time here. Staff is very strict on where you stand for anything & try to pack you into this venue like sardines. All staff i encountered was just over all rude the duration of the time i was there. Not the cleanest place & drinks are incredibly over priced. Will not be returning unless it is for a smaller band that is not as well known.
The Majestic is a terrific venue. Historic, funky, could use some updates - but the location is convenient to parking and lots of options for dinner before and a drink after. The staff does a good job and theyre helpful if you need anything. I keep an eye on upcoming acts, worth the drive from the Milwaukee area.
This place is an incredible venue. Just enough security to keep you safe and having a good time but not there to ruin your night! No water bottles. Allows backpacks. Easy ways out to smoke sections. Vapes are allowed. Bring your friends, I went for a EDM event and it was perfect. 10/10
The Majestic is a good small venue for shows, but things have changed for the worse post COVID. First, they no longer use the balcony for shows, it is always closed to the general public. Second, Frank Productions merged with Live Nation which resulted in much higher drink prices and they no longer take cash - the venue is card only. This is particularly troubling for those who work in the service industry, like eh em their bartenders, who often make most of their income in cash tips.
Amazing staff! Fiance with type 1 diabetes had a surprise low blood sugar and a staff member noticed quickly and brought him juice and a chair before my fiance had a seizure. He continued to check on him until he was feeling better. The show was really good, but the employee that saved the day was the highlight of what could have been a really bad night. Now we wish we were having our ceremony here. At any rate, were extremely grateful.
The word being used most commonly in the reviews Ive seen is intimate - often meaning, a good size for a small show. But that means that it is not a good size for a larger show. I went to see Andrew McMahon there a few months back and was so disappointed with how many people they had packed in that it ruined my whole concert experience. We would have had to arrive an hour before the show started even just to find a spot for four people to stand together. I have always enjoyed the communal aspect of concerts - everyone standing close together, experiencing the music together, but this was just so above and beyond, you couldnt even move.
They inspect bags purses and metal wand everyone. Check id for 21 drinks. I didnt get any drinks. The bathrooms are convenient and well maintained. Multiple levels to enjoy the shows. They have bubblers downstairs for your hydration. ...no need to pay 5$ for bottled waters like other venues!
This place is dirty, staff is rude/unprofessional, and it took them years to even put in a water fountain (with hot water as only option in bathroom). The sound quality is horrific for a variety of shows, although Im not sure if the architecture of the small venue itself contributes some. The petty owners actually have blocked people for leaving them bad reviews on Facebook, which is pathetic.I get so sad when I see good bands going to this disappointing spot instead of other venues. They get well and lesser known artists in this little place and youre basically forced to see them here when there are much better venues in town (hint: Liquid is not one of them). Madison deserves better and the Majestic can do better.
Generally, I’ve had terrible service at Majestic, but I deal with it because it is a beautiful venue with superb shows. Tonight I had both. Sean at the bar is a gem. They did their job to perfection regardless of gender or sexiness. A good time was had. Thank you
A fun and amazingly intimate venue!
If you go here expecting to have a super fun time and a couple drinks then think again. Expect to be harassed by staff multiple times. Over charged for super small drinks. This place is tiny, staff is unfriendly, and extremely rude.I was not racially profiled or anything along those lines. Been to 2 different events and both situations were handled horribly. I would never return or purchase a ticket to another event here again.I tell all my family and friends to not go here, not worth the time or money for a horrible experience. I hope they read reviews and make some staff changes and management changes, overall vibe and experience of this venue is HOSTILE!
Nice place, parking garage near by for under 10 bucks. Went here for a concert, small venue with limited seating. No free water as Ive been accustomed to in similarly sized venues. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall a good place for a show.
Venue doesnt take cash so thats swell
This a great place to see a concert. Bands were great last night but the sound was so loud and distorted, all you could hear was Marcus King and his guitar. You could not hear the horns at all most songs. Even his lyrics were not understandable. Been to hundreds of concerts 2nd loudest ever. Lower volume please.
Great place for live music. Plenty of seating upstairs with great views. Beer list isnt the greatest and the prices are a little on the expense side but its definitely better than the Orpheum on both counts.
The bars a bit pricey but reasonable for a venue, especially good selection though. I went for Car Seat Headrest and got to see some phenomenal openers, Lucy Dacus and the local group Trophy Dad! Very clean, very professional staff, definitely want to come by again!
The Majestic makes up for their small size with character and history. Great venue for live shows and movies. There is an open floor near the stage for dancing (or mosh pits depending on the vibe haha). They have two bars, one upstairs and one downstairs because what would a Wisconsin venue be without booze?
Small up close and personal stage. Loud enough to hear and have a great time but not make your ears ring. This has become my top 3 venues in Wisconsin for music
Website says There is seating in our balcony which is first come first served, but when you get there the actual policy is We dont feel like opening the balcony tonight so GFY lol. PBR is up to $6 for a 12 oz can instead of $8 for a 32 oz can.
I love the Majestic. It’s a fantastic local place with tons of history great acoustics and wonderful bands. I’ve seen so many great groups here we’re really lucky we have such a great resource in town. Thanks majestic for keeping things going in Madison.
Turned away at the door cus I had a bag. I’m disabled and had the meds I need in there and I have a hard time walking and the only parking I could get was a 10 minute walk away and I couldn’t make it to the concert because my body gave out on the way back to put my bag in my car. Ricky Montgomery is my favorite artist and I could t see him. I never go to concerts and this ruined my night
Saw Alison Wonderland here. Amazing show. The venue is small enough that you feel close to the artist, but large enough to maintain a crowd atmosphere. Coat check could afford to hold a few more jackets.
The very good appeal relates to their venues and events. We went to an 80s vs 90s Halloween Party which was pretty fun.The facilities are fine but nothing special. The service was pretty decent. My biggest complaint is that they charge $3 for water. I dont mind paying $5 for a beer... thats to be expected. But charging $3 for a water is nearly immoral. They should be encouraging people to drink water - both those who are drinking and those who are not. Shameful.
Great venue.. HOWEVER, was required to show proof of vax / recent covid test, which is fine. The issue was I checked before going to the show of any requirement, and could find No information on their FB page, and clicking on the website link on the FB about - yielded a dead link - even clicking the continue to website.. (see pics below). Good thing the door / Security guy guided me through finding my personal Vax info online, and was good to go. Update/pin your FB!
Probably my favorite spot to see a show in Madison. Love the small venue vibe and the diversity of shows and events they host. Ive attended concerts, stand-up comedians, sports watch parties, and movie nights, and Ive never had a bad experience
We saw Wolf Alice and it was the perfect venue to see a rising band. Although, when the mosh pit started it did feel as though the floor was going to collapse. Lol
Awesome sound, security isnt too clingy, never seen any real problems the 20 plus times Ive been there. Bathrooms usually dont have a long wait. Drinks are expensive, but theres some specials where if you pre game a little you can have a good night for 30 to 50 bucks. One of my favorite venues in the city.
Gets a little crowded in the pit (especially if the show is sold out) but its still a very beautiful venue with a wonderful sound quality. Ive enjoyed numerous shows from different spots all over! Check it out.
Great small venue! Most recently I saw an audience participation movie and the crowd was enthusiastic. Ive seen shows and dance parties there and the crowd is good. Bar is pricy but not the focus.
This is a super neat concert venue! Its small so youll feel up close no matter if youre in the front or back row! We will be keeping on eye on upcoming shows! Cant wait to go back!
Always a good pick when it comes to seeing artists you like. Make sure to pre-game: youre only going to afford one drink so make it count. Certainly isnt as bad as most other places when it comes to alcohol pricing, but its not bar pricing. Bathrooms are under the stage if that helps you to find them. Seriously though, you have to pre-game this place.
Saw Zeds Dead after party here and it was a great time! Love this place because it’s smaller and more intimate with the artists.
Went for a drag show and had so much fun! The place had a promotion for a bucket of seltzer cocktails of 7 for $30. Tip: buy your ticket at the door, not online. Online is cheaper but then sticks a $4 service charge on you.
I know that they have to have a security bar upstairs, but but doesnt seem right to put chairs that have those bars directly blocking the screen and still sell out- meaning some people (more than 20) end up sitting with a partial view of the screen for the whole movie. i recommend those spaces be blocked off for movies at least, maybe just not available in general.i was also sad that so much seating appeared to be available but whole rows turned out to be reserved by one person for all the friends they expected to be there.i did like the bar and popcorn idea tho.
The atmosphere and the structure of the building is a beautiful thing to be in. They could have a better selection of beer. This sound system and Acoustics are spot-on. I highly recommend seen any and every show here
My new son in law Chris Lotten showed us this venue. Very fun and personable. No matter where you stand/sit you have a view of the stage. Nice to see our older theaters still being used!
Security and staff has always been super nice, the venue is beautiful, alcohol prices are on par with similar sized venues, they bring in great acts and the acoustics are fantastic. Probably my favorite venue in Madison!
Such a great venue. Always happy to see an artist in such an intimate space with great acoustics. Tonight’s show did not disappoint!
Great variety of touring acts in a properly transformed old Wisconsin theatre. Drink and beer selection is decent with middle/upper range alcohol prices but you go there for the music- they have lots and its loud :)
One of the only venues to allow re-entry. I appreciate this A LOT. bottled water is jacked up, but who cares? you can go get water next door or whatever. The staff Ive talked to have been really nice. Its my favorite madison venue aside from Exhibition Hall.
This is a really cool venue in Madison, the layout can be a little strange especially when its crowded. But as a venue they always have top quality artists and the location is great in downtown Madison.
I rarely go here unless there is a show I really want to see. The staff are not very happy or engaging, and dont smile. Plus they frisk you at the door even if the event is a fun movie night (Brew n View). The vibe is that they see customers as an incovenient way to make money and this is supported by the outrageously high ticket and drink prices. You cant blame them for wanting to make money and maybe their rent is high, so benefit of the doubt. But more happiness and human interaction from staff would attract and retain more customers. I was once there with an overweight friend and a staff member asked her to move because she was blocking traffic (she wasnt). Not cool.
Ive been to the majestic for several different types of shows and this venue has never disappointed. Great atmosphere and even better bartenders.
Ive come here for several events and always had a great, time! The venue switches it up and always has something entertaining going on. I enjoy their movies on the big screen and their Halloween photo booth was fun!
Great place to see live music! Great events held here as well! Drag shows are always wonderful
Doesnt host the big headliners but it is a favorite for my teenagers to see a few of their favorites without the thousands of fans. Very easy to keep watch of the teens so felt it was safe.
Saw the Elevators and was groped by security all night. The Elevators rock, the majestic did not.
Like to pay $25 to get harassed by security as soon as you get in the door? This is your place! Security treats you like garbage for no reason, drinks are overpriced, water costs $3, bartenders are jerks, sounds usually marginal. I miss the Madison music scene of 10 years ago when this place wasnt even operational. Orpheum, Barrymore, High Noon are all FAR superior, but unfortunately this worthless venue seems to be getting all the shows these days...
Best concert Ive been to. I love the venue!
The upper balcony has a bad view, which is the only view available when they show movies. The acoustics are good but they have the speakers up too loud so its always over loud for the space and the music.
The architecture and intemacy of this venue leaves you with some of the best experiences with performing artists. Also cannot beat some of the rates on shows.
I saw Declan McKenna with special guest Chapell Roan here about a month or 2 months ago with my sister and it was absolutely incredible. I absolutely recommend this concert hall/venue!!!
Other reviewers have mentioned this, but seriously what place doesnt give you free water? The bartenders are total jerks too, very off-putting and they look at everyone as if theyre scum. This place could be a fun venue if the staff werent so hateful.
Acoustics were not good for my 6 year olds ears. Its an intimate space, not ideal for dancing, but charming and great location.
Went to a Brew n View and had to leave 15 minutes in due to the sound being absolutely terrible to the point of being physically painful. It sounded like the speakers were turned above capacity or the audio source was just poor. I was really excited to see a classic (Back to the Future), but unfortunately it wasnt able to happen here.
Wonderful historic theater located in a fun entertainment district adjacent to the state capital building. Unfortunately drinks are way over priced. Expect to spend $50 if you want to enjoy some beer.
Really great place for concerts and shows, however Id recommend again sitting in the top section if you want to see. Still one of my favorite concert venues in Madison
As a venue it has decent sound, good sightlines, and average drink prices. The parking sucks and is only going to get worse as Madison continues to make parking harder, but whatcha gonna do?
Love seeing bands in smaller venues.
So I get myself a Christmas sweater for this 80 90s event got my coat on in this chilly weather pay $5..goes in half hour later over someone mention its free with a Christmas sweater walk back to the counter for my $5 back the young lady tells me no refund but then offers me an extra ticket that I would have to stand outside to sell I turned it down...Just thought that portion was lousey
Great concert, we didnt realize there was going to be two covers and take two hours before the main act but it was well worth it J Mac was outstanding, wasnt so crazy about having to stand in a line outside in the rain waiting to get I feel like they could have adjusted the entry system a little bit, my husband had to buy a $25 shirt just because his shirt was soaked from the rain
Went here to see Mutemath on 4/2. Great band, awful venue. The sound is horrible. Staff is rude too. I left after 3 songs because I couldnt take the poorly adjusted sound blasting through blown speakers. Avoid this place, its a waste of your money.
This is a very good place to catch a concert. Excellent sound quality, with a good level of capacity. Not too large, but not too small.I would highly recommend seeing a concert here.
Nice little standing venue to see your favorite up-and-coming bands or special events. Fair acoustics, reasonable drink prices, friendly staff.
The proximity to the bands plus the sound quality is nice here. The viewing area is made for standing and moving with the music so wear comfortable shoes.
Major renovated small motion picture venue to a small live entertainment club. A good place for private or public party releases with both dance area & balcony seating.
Great venue and shows just like the liberal town of Madison WI to require vaccinations to enter their town and shows, and somehow it has one of the highest rates even though you have to wear a hazmat suit to live freely !!
Always great vibes at this venue! The set-up is nice, good sound... And coushined seating for the GA balcony is super awesome!
Yeah! I love this place, an awesome small venue that has had some awesome acts. I always enjoy my experience when I go, would highly recommend
I saw a beautiful projection of Napoleon by Abel Gance at the Majestic Theatre in the 1980s, as well as hundreds of other films (primarily cuz I worked the ticket booth/concession stand for a few years). The Majestic back then was the coolest place round the square (at least I thought!) - I miss the Rocky Horror fans and living in Madison! Im glad the theatre is still going strong!
It okay if you go with a group. Its run down and the staff is not very pleasant. They wont give tap water for free which is illegal. If someone walks up to you in your yard and asks for some water you are required to provide some. You can walk into any restaurant ad ask for water and they have to let you have some. Period.
It was a great show and the atmosphere was good but the drinks were a little pricey. Make sure you come prepared to spend a little more than usual as the choices are slim.
I love the majestic! I really like how theyre bringing a variety of different types of music in! Super enjoyed the floozies and hope to see more edm styled music :) ✌️✌️
Great place to see a show, pleasantly surprised no pot smell throughout am entire rock show. Very happy!
Our daughter and son-in-law hired the venue for a dancing wedding reception with a 9-piece band. Great accoustics!
Saw Pinky with my sister! It was a great show! We were 5th row!
