Sotto Night Club

Met my boyfriend here at the Capitol Social Latin nights (Wednesdays) and the dance community is beautiful, so I’m very biased and go here often on Wednesdays. Thursday Reggaeton nights are where it gets crazy, lots of undergrads. The floors are never fully clean and the ceiling has some leaks, but the staff are very friendly and the drinks are reasonable.

I usually love Sotto and have a great time, but I went the other night and the music was so so loud, to the point where I think I legitimately got hearing damage. I’ve never been to a club where this has been an issue — if they’re going to have the music at that level they should at least offer ear plugs because it is 100% not worth having ringing in your ears for the next few days. That being said, service is always great at Sotto, love the bartenders!!

Ive been here twice in the last several months, and both times were serious let downs. The place itself is a pretty cool vibe, I could do without the smoke, but the music was pretty bad. Over extended mid beat drops that were only danceable if you were really drunk or desperate to dance like I was. Most of the night, youd look around, and everyone was standing around waiting for something good or recognizeable to play. Not an enjoyable time. I hope they get a new DJ, Id maybe give it one more shot.

My friend was on a visit and we decided to give it a try, everyone was super nice specially Luke at the bar, he was so fun and had great dance moves and was so welcoming and we appreciated his service! We will definitely be coming back

Last Thursday, my friends and I went for Noche Latina and the ambiance was lit and the music was on point. The DJ played reggaeton, salsa, bachata and cumbia. The price of the ticket was $5 but it was a long line.

Im new to Wisconsin and miss dancing with my friends back home so this was my first time trying this place. But it was so much fun! The vibe/atmosphere was ideal. All the staff were courteous and professional. And the DJ for the night was fantastic. Ill definitely be coming back again when I get a free night on the town!

Usually a really good time! The music is way too loud though, where youll have your ears ringing for the entire following day, and sometimes the bartenders can be very hard to get and be a bit rude.

Best dance floor in Madison. One of a few places Id actually call a night club instead of just a bar. Thursday Latin night is a must, but arrive early to beat the line. Friday and Saturday is mostly house music. Security at the door is through and will pat you down. $5 cash cover

The bouncer was racist and his supervisor was supporting racism instead of condemning. Yesterday night, It was raining outside and we waited in queue for 20 mins. When our turn came for scanning, he told us to step back even though there were people behind us and they were also standing in rain. When we explained that people are behind us and it’s raining the. He started to abuse and when his supervisor came. He was also just watching. He didn’t allow us and quickly scanned rest of other and let them go. His behaviour was RACIST and RACKLESS. Sotto management should decide what kind of mentality your employees have and you also support them.I am sharing his picture here. Sotto management check your security camera decide where you stand.

Im giving this two stars instead of one because I hope after entering this bar Ill have a better perspective. Came here at 10pm, waited in line until 12:45am and gave up after that seeing after seeing an entire block of line still in front of us. Ive waited in shorter lines for Six Flags rides. This is ridiculous. Not worth it. If youre not coming at the time the bar opens, literally find anywhere else. But of course theyre one of the few dance clubs in Madison so despite the lack of appeal, its sadly all we got. Do better Madison.EDIT: Came early at 9:40 this time and got in by 10:30, if you dont mind the long line on Thursdays then its a decent place and its cool that it is underground.

Got my card stolen there literally 5 minutes after walking in and buying a drink. I was only slightly drunk at the time and I dont remember just leaving it on the counter. I did notice a little later on, twice actually, that my purse was unzipped and I dont remember opening it. So it was either stolen at the counter or from my purse directly. Either way, whoever stole it, probably intended to do so before they even got to the bar, because just a little later at 8:00 am, they tried to use it for an $800 purchase at the walmart on the east side. Thankfully I canceled my card before then because I never found it, but please just BE CAREFUL with your cards/money and be aware of your surroundings!

Having frequented Sotto and also partnered with them to host a business event, all I can say are great things about management from Sue and her daughters, and staff. The best place in Madison to dance, and drinks are super reasonable and well-made. Always a good time!

If you do not like to inhale vomit, urine, & fecal fumes in a dark, crowded, hot, & humid environment then do not go here.I paid my cover, walked downstairs towards the dance floor, then left immediately. I was about to throw up from the smell.

Good atmosphere with alot of fun events. The have Latin dance there every Wednesday night which is fantastic. Weekends are more EDM music and can get pretty bumping too. A little crowded sometimes and humid when the fog machine comes on.

Who manages this place? Honestly leaving people in the line for 2 hours isn’t cool. Be aware if you’re considering coming, they do it every day so people can pay 20$ to skip the line! If there are like 4 groups in front of you it can take 40-50 min for tou to get in!It is a scam

Just ok. Don’t recommend waiting in line on Thursday’s not worth it. Takes forever to get a drink. Ladies bathroom is always like a slip n slide. Always seems to be some violence or aggressive people here too, not the clubs fault, but I’ve never seen them do anything about it either.

Would leave 0 stars if possible. All of my stuff was stolen at Sotto’s even after I paid to have my jacket checked in.

The most bad reputation I had in my entire life. They didn’t allow me to let in the club without any reason, and they kept saying we’re closed even if I saw other persons going in.

Metal detector bouncer does not not follow protocol. Feels girls up and down even when metal isn’t detected. Pat down is understandable, but it was NOT a pat down. I felt very violated and uncomfortable. If I could give them zero I would.

Cool spot. Good drinks and music. place to dance if you’re downtown. More so younger college crowd so if you’re older might feel out of place.

Love the place bouncers are nice and love the scenery. Everyone is friendly and bartender definitely try to make sure everyone is taking care of.

Its sometimes sleazy and sometimes great. The DJs vary in ability. It can get really trashy when its crowded. Ive been there multiple times when people have vomited everywhere (frequently on the dance floor).

Never in my life have I ever been treated as poorly as I was by the staff at this establishment. The manager was of no help, he instead made the situation worse by yelling at me himself when there was a discrepancy with the security at the front door. Do not waste your money.

They are not honest and take things that are coat checked. I will never go there again :/

To the owner of Sotto bar...its very unprofessional for you to call your former employee the ugly. You have bullied him. Its never ok. Every human being is beautiful. I hope you will apologize to him as soon as possible. Thank you.

Some random ginger bouncer wouldnt let us in because he said he cannot let people in after 2 am. Even though it was way before 2am. He even let his friends into the club in front of us. Clear bias

Overall good experience. Sometimes a bartender or two is standing around instead of serving drinks, and the line is long. Otherwise fun place to be

The straightest “gay bar” I’ve ever been to. Didn’t feel unsafe here, but definitely should not be labeled as a space FOR LGBTQIA+.

Bathrooms are definitely gross, but it Sottos has a great dance floor and the drinks are cheap. Great place to go dancing.

Cheap cover, cheap drinks, great dance floor. The drinks aren’t fancy, but you get what you’re paying for. It beats Wandos and chasers any day!

This place is not only a bad place to go, cheap alcohol and cocktails. It is also not good for minorities, sadly occupied by gangs of denizens who most probably are white supremacists and can make your experience a sour one.

Always a great time. There is also a free salsa dance class on Wednesday evenings that is so much fun.

Been going downhill as the years go by. Bouncers never check ID’s & the female bartender in the back is a crazy freak and sneaks men in through the back door.

I have no idea why someone might go here. Super dirty. No air conditioning. Just a fan and it was unbelievably hot. All the floors were wet.

Serviceable.

I loved the habiente on Latin Friday, the mix of music was super good, and the place was quite spacious.Admission was free, but the beer did seem a bit expensive compared to other clubs. Likewise, I really liked the place and the people.*There is no parking, but there are public parking lots nearby.
