Wow, what cool little venue! Pretty small but done well. Tons of vibe to the atmosphere! Went and saw a show there featuring the band “High Fade” from Scotland. This was their last stop on their US tour. The house sound system was exceptional. Standing room only. The bar had a decent assortment of drinks and beverages available. They do not serve food so make sure you eat something before coming to a show. I will definitely go back again when I have the opportunity!
Tiny venue with a poor sound system. They had issues all night. We really enjoyed the shows though. Dead Poet Society and Kid Pastel absolutely killed it. I would recommend bringing earplugs. Pretty much anywhere you stand youre still dangerously close to the speakers. The aesthetic was similar to that of CBGB in New York. Band stickers covered the walls and even the mirrors in the restrooms. The restrooms were kinda gross and smelled like vomit (not surprising for a nightclub). We will definitely come back for another show in the future.
Small intimate setting to see some great bands from all kinds of genres. Had my first visit yesterday, and it definitely wont be my last.Taken one star away because the size can get a little too tight, but theres not much that can be done about that.Volume is not typically a problem for me, but it was at this venue. Even if youre used to loud music, BRING EAR PLUGS. Halfway through the show, it started to hurt, and the only place to go to be quieter was outside. Made me upset with myself for not being prepared.
Its a small space, that recurrently hosts some incredible artists. The acoustics are much better than they have any right to be, granted the roof height, so kudos to the sound crew.
What a great hidden treasure!!! We loved the venue!! Quaint and cool as can be all wrapped up in one great place! And Emily McGill was a wonderful artist!!! I did not know her music, my husband was going to see someone else and we were so blessed to have this beautiful soul with a voice smooth as silk and a personality that is 10x bigger than her little self💖💖💖 We will definitely be on the lookout for her in the future 💕 Cole Capshaw was the opening artist and he was awesome as well ❤️
It was a cozy little venue, has a separate smoking section that feeds to the outdoor balcony. It has an insider vibe that makes you feel like one of the cool kids in a secret tree house. Meltt was preforming here all the way from Canada and they unfortunately had to cut their performance short due to the warm up band Travolta going over on their set and having some set up difficulty (they liked to dance around during their set! It was so fun!!) They did an amazing job and it felt very genuine and low budget in the best way. Meltt had dreamy sounds and vocals that only amplified the loving lyrics. I wanted to hear more more more! So I bought the vinyl they had at the merch table which is located at the entrance door. However ALWAYS BRING CASH IF YOU WANT MERCH! Because your favorite band may not have a mobile clover terminal or phone attachment to process card transactions. I didnt realize this and as those sweethearts signed my vinyl I had to hit the ATM ASAP!! But all was well as the ATM is literally right at the front door. Nashville also has a pretty weak sound curfew for such a music friendly city, 11:30 is expected to be lights out when for alot of places thats when theyre just getting started. I was told by my colleague that most musicians would just ignore the curfew, but the Canadian sweeties in Meltt unfortunately and adorably respected it to the dot. The Basement also has a fully stocked bar, offering all types of canned beers and some things on tap. All the staff are easy to spot, iconic and always keeping busy or engaged. I really appreciated this. I dont believe they serve food and no one got too rowdy during my stay. No earplugs were necessary during the shows I saw as it seems the separate basement controlled sound guy is well aware of how small the venue is, adjusting accordingly. This was very much appreciated because other venues can give you a headache with the intensity of the volume. Good luck and enjoy the show when you go!
One of the few remaining Nashville small venues. Great to see this place is still going, with a great variety of acts appearing.
Always a great experience at The Basement.Shows are always great and its a smaller venue, so its definitely more intimate.Cocktails are solid and very reasonably priced for that part of town. When its crowded, it can be difficult to get to the bar, but that comes with the territory.Large smoking patio, which doubles as a cool place to hang with a band after theyre done playing. All in all, a great place to catch a show and hang with your friends.
We stumbled upon this gem, and ended up going two nights in a row we loved it so much! If youre into judgement-free vibes and rockin tunes, go check it out! The price is always reasonable for the quality of music, and its a refreshing scene compared to downtown. Definitely a new favorite!-Jared and Jenna
Great venue some of the drinks were slightly higher than what Im use to at home but its big city Nashville and the prices were not outrageous. The music was phenomenal and the crowd was lively and the whole place was packed for the show, I had to practically become an NFL lineman to make it to the bar. Overall everything was exceptional apart from the ac situation it was brutaly hot but well worth the experience. 92/100 would recommend.
We had fun. I think that its a place for younger peeps because they struggled getting enough seating for us older folks. They need someone on the board with a bit more experience, but it was ok.
Super cool, historic spot and fantastic music. A piece of old Nashville with all the best ingredients to experience the live scene and local talent.
A fun little venue. The staff were great and sound was good. Only small complaint I have is that the specific show I saw was a bit too crowded for the size of the venue. But I was happy to see the large turnout for the artists playing. Would definitely stop in here again when I go back to Nashville.
A great intimate venue. A little small inside. And standing room only. But theres something to be said about Live band music. So much more satisfying than Broadways Writers Round or solo performances. Even the same songs from my favorite singers sound way more better with a band than acoustic. The performers are free to move about & become engaged with the audience. Free to express themselves. Plus you get to see them close, real close. Get there early to find your ideal spot. Parking is abundant, whether in the gravel or street. Just dont park beyond the gated fence or youll get locked in!
Cool music venue just south of downtown. It’s in the basement (hence the name) of a record label so it’s definitely set up for live entertainment. Acoustics are impressive for a space of its size - can get loud if in front so bring your ear plugs if you are hearing sensitive. One of our favorite stops while visiting Nashville for sure. Decently priced for the experience you get.
Awesome venue! Found this place while vacationing in Nashville and had to visit. Awesome personal feel, relaxed and fun atmosphere. I loved it so much
Small venue,so get there early. Great drink prices! Very good place to see a show. Michael at the front door is a real pleasure 😁
This is definitely one of the best small venues in Nashville for seeing independent bands among a wide range of musical genres perform in a small, intimate setting with excellent sound quality. The staff is nice. The beer is cold. Ive been here countless times and have always left with a smile.
Very intimate venue, perfect to see some new independents bands live, for a very reasonable price, very nice staff and free parking lot available with amazing atmosphere!
I love this place the most because it gives upcoming musicians the opportunity to fine-tune their craft. Seasoned artists perform here as well, keep an eye on their calendar. You may or may not hear a country tune.Cheap cover charge, cheaper drinks. I recommend ordering a beer directly from the bar. Be sure to tip the hard working staff well and buy merch from the artist. The venue is small, claustrophobic small if seeing a popular act. Expect to stand and have folks talking over the music, especially if it’s a busy night.
Been there twice and I can honestly say its one of my favorite venues in Nashville. The intimate setting gives it that magic touch. And the drinks are affordable too!
Best place to see up and coming artists in Nashville!!
I was able to go to the gentleman club with the I.d. I had but I go and pay $40 to see letdown and get turned away and cant even get a refund. I litterally went to the gentleman club after getting turned away here. This made me dislike every let down song I ever liked and unfollow them. This ruined my bday plans
If you get tired or overwhelmed by the crowds on Broadway this venue is perfect to catch some good music in a humble friendly place thats only 5 minutes from downtown (driving). Need to check their schedule to make sure theyre open. Its not a regular bar, only open certain hours for shows
This place is awesome. My girlfriend and I stopped off here for a gig on our way through Nashville and it had a great vibes. Not the easiest to find for outsiders like us but worth it when you do. Very chill, intimate setting to enjoy live music.
I’m literally standing at a concert right now. This place oversold the show and I can’t see either of the performers. All I can see is the handicap ramp and the crowd. It would be nice to be able to “see” a concert I paid to see. This place is a rip-off. I’ve been a Nashville resident for going on 15 years and I’ve been to more shows thank cam count. Never as piss poor as this one.
A little low key hidden GEM of a venue with really accommodating, awesome and all around great staff. Saw our favorite artist there for the first time and it was absolutely amazing to see her in such an intimate setting.
Tiny venue with great upcoming artists. You can see them close! It might look unsafe or abandoned from outside and has a scary back entrance, but then thats a West coast opinion! Its super cool! They also have a small down to earth bar where you can get something made to your liking (no menu ;))
If youre looking for an intimate music experience that sticks with you beyond your visit to Nashville, this is your spot. Great space, friendly staff, and absolutely no corporate sludge.
First time in was just last week. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, and most of the bands playing that night. The bar placement is a little rough on the ease of ordering drinks, but hey I saved money and didnt need an uber home! Will go back more than a few times im sure.
Parking is a bit difficult, its down off a sidestreet, not the main one in the address. Other than that a very neat little venue. Drinks were reasonably priced and staff were polite.
First time here. Much smaller than the basement east, but a lot more intimate. Sound was great. You can look at the walls and see the other bands and patrons who have left their mark. Park in the back. You can only enter through the back alley. Drinks are cheap.Only gripe, please update your patio furniture! I could see someone getting a little too tipsy and falling off some of that old furniture. Maybe it plays into the vibe, just a note. Had a fun time.
My sister and I went in 45 minutes to close, and then the lady at the front kept asking for our ids. I felt it was rude because it was our first time being there. She kept repeating that she needed our id and didn’t even ask how we were doing. She also kept repeating that they closed in like 30 minutes which after that we just left because it was not a great experience.
HORRIBLE Bartender AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Ordered the only IPA on draft. He gave me a Pabst out of a cooler. When I took it back to the bar and asked for a canned IPA, he dumped the original draft and THEN told me I’d have to pay AGAIN for the can. Even though the draft was more expensive and CLEARLY wasn’t an IPA. Didn’t even give me the option to drink the Pabst, forcing me to pay twice for mediocre beer. I even tipped him on both accounts but just really disappointed at customer service. Recommend not doing the bar at all. 👎
So glad I found this place!! Look it might not be flashy. But its up close and so personal. If a band you even think youll like is performing here, GO! Cool bartender and bouncer. I had a great time and jammed out. Met the band after the show. Ill be back.
Always a favorite venue. The sound was amazing. My second live show post covid. Altered Statesman opened. Enjoyed everything. Thank you Mike for keeping this place buzzing.
Went to this venue to see Nova Twins and had a fantastic time. Really nice venue thats small and intimate
The music and crowd here was awesome. There was a tribute to R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. The way the band rotated several guys in and out on different instruments and vocals was a lot of fun. Then the various band members were accessable out on the smoking patio and we had some great conversation plus got some good recommendations for other places to see good bands.
Exactly what I wanted in a Nashville club.Thank you for hosting David Mead and way to step out there for Pip the crazy flute gal and her tremendously talented husband.I even got to see freaking Tom Petersson up close and personal! I got his signature in my basement and had no idea he was gonna be there!! The Basement IS Nashville.Sweet
Very very small venue. Maybe thats the charm of it that you can be closer to an artist (Keith Urban) but it was simply to crowded and walkways to narrow. Drink selection was good as they had mixers but overall lackluster experience
I remember my first time ever going to The Basement went to support some local high school band friends. Place hasnt really changed at all. Mind you, my 20 year H.S. Reunion is in 2023, YIKES.
One of the important venues in the Nashville music scene. Make an effort to come here if youre visiting and want to see a legit spot for music. It may be small, but youd be surprised how large the crowd can get. A patio serves as a good overflow when you need a break between bands. If theres a cover, its hardly more than $5 or $10.
Had a great time; I hadnt been here in many years. Nice, cozy spot. The artists were awesome.
Great venue that is very intimate. Staff went above and beyond. Had a great experience! If you get the chance, go catch a show here!
Great place for a rock show in Nashville. Among the best in my opinion. The staff was great. All around good times.
Everyone was really nice, music was great. Met a few cool people. Probably won’t be back since I don’t live there anymore but if I did. I’d go back all the time.
The basement is one of Nashvilles greatest music venues. Definitely a great spot for rising new talent!
Great music venue. A welcome plus not having to deal with the big ticket sellers/scammers. Thanks for hosting Robyn and Emma!
There are so many incredible artists and different shows to choose from at the Basement! Its always been an awesome experience! Its definitely a place youll frequently want to go to!
Not much to look at. Its a basement. Small, dark, small bar but nice bar tender. Friendly. Seating was limited and seats well past their prime. But youre right there with the performer seeing up and coming talent.
A really fun music venue. Was cozy, yet intimate venue. The man who ran the soundboard was extremely talented, and the band sounded great. I would definitely recommend checking out a show there.
Nice intimate space with good sound.
Avi Kaplan live shows were the absolute best. Small intimate venue, sound is wonderful, the shows were all sold out so view from the back was ok, but when you could get to the front it was awesome!!!
Good drinks and scotters...lol
Music venue dive with a wonderful sound system, good drink options and a chill place to hang. Parking is around back off Alloway St.
The very best venue. Authentic. Feel good. Represents all Nashville holds in promise.
Decent little dive. Great sound guy and very imtament setting to see your favorite artists. If they only had a bartender with pleasant personality.
Small intimate venue that gets you up close to bands you are interested in. Painted all black inside, with lots of stickers and posters all over. It got a little warm with all the spotlights on the artist.
Great venue curated very well. Early shows at 6 are usually industry showcases followed by smaller touring acts and local talent.
The Basement gets five stars for bringing actual talent from actual Nashville. No frills but intimate. People pay attention to the music. Needs more parking, but still.
The Basement is one of Nashvilles gems. Its a small music establishment located behind and underneath Grimeys Records on 8th Avenue. They have good acts and the bar is decent with reasonable prices. The magic is in who you might see, who might be in the audience, and the overall vibe. No one thing stands out, but the club is better than the sum of its parts.
A Nashville standard for the ten or more years its been in operation. Theyve expanded to East Nashville in the last couple of years as well. A fine venue with on par programming in a very convenient location. Reasonable door and bar prices.
This is my favorite place to hear music! A small, cozy venue with great music, good sound, and they always have an interesting mix of people in the audience. I have been going here for about 20 yrs.
Intimate & vibey local live venue.. amazing experience for being up close to the bands. Its been a Nashville fixture for years.
Beautiful place for quite intimate concerts because its pretty small. Good temperature inside and fresh air. I liked it a lot.
Always have great shows there, great atmosphere. Its quite a small venue which I love!
I mean the sound guy could learn some things about sound saturation but otherwise cool spot. Grimmy atmosphere, perfect underground music feel including little to no AC. Turn it down a little bit and call a HVAC guy otherwise killing it.
Its as advertised; youll get a no frills, intimate live performance in a basement. Tons of fun and a highlight of our Nashville visit.
This venue has great shows. Get there early if youre old, like me, and want to sit down.
Good place! If Payton Smith is playing The Basement, run, walk, jog, skip, cantor, basically do anything to get yourself there!! Payton is absolutely Fan-fricken-tastic!
Awesome bands! Felt really comfortable here. Felt like home
Super small venue but has great staff that really care if you have a good time. However there is a 5 step stoop enterance which makes it wheelchair inaccessable.
Love The Basement. I have many great memories of many great shows and hangs. It is not fancy, and parking kinda sucks, but it is a rock club, not a night club.
My favorite Nashville venue. Intimate, unique, great sound with the new fender system, solid beer selection and good staff.
Cool place that has a laid back vibe and great musical talent on stage.
Always a good time. The Get Happier Fridays outside are so much fun. I highly recommend.
Great spot for local bands. Cool, dungeon-y atmosphere. Tough to get drinks if its packed.
Hole in the wall old place. Great Music. Friendly staff. Hopefully stays open for a long time.
This place is so small. Which makes it awesom unless you need a beer which is a challenge. Had a great time last night for the First Trigger Hippy show of their residency.
Small, intimate venue for seeing a variety of indie artists & bands.
Awesome little spot for nice live music!
Love this place. Awkward layout, but super intimate and Ive never seen a bad show there. Parking aint so great.
Stellar intimate venue, relatively cheap bar. Tuesday nights are free!!! Listen to Jive Talk
Super cool, small venue. Also good customer service, I had a billing question and they got in touch with me and answered my question quickly!
Great place to see live music! Crowded, but a lot of fun! Get out there and support live music!
Small venue but great place to listen to music
Intimate venue is an understatement! Very small and crowded but face to face with some great bands.
Loved it. I was not expecting this place to literally be like if you were in someone’s basement. I know it’s in the name, but was thinking it would be different and pleasantly surprised it was not
I love that they eant to be authentic but they really need new chairs and tables. They can get older one at any antique shop around town.
Iconic venue, lots of wonderful artists have played here. Looking forward to going back
A singular music experience. small, intimate, whatever you wanna call it, youre gonna have a real good time.
A small venue with a few places to sit close to the stage. There is a bar and an outdoor smoking area. The sound resonates well from the stage.
Awesome venue! Great people!
One of the few places in Nashville where the band played original music. Really enjoyed my time here.
Very cool place with live original music and nice vibes!
One of the better music venues in Nashville. Long history of great artists have performed there
Pretty nice place, not too big or crowded with live bands and bartender was on point throughout the night
Great for an intimate show. Really have to go down the back alley all the way to get to parking lot.
Awesome venue for live music though it can get a bit crowded with popular shows.
Amazing small club in Nashville. Great staff and great place to catch and up and coming band.
Awesome lil place, too bad its coming down. Saw TB And the Shakedown they were amazing!
Awesome local venue. Great local talent go on tuesdays for free concert!
WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!!
Named properly. Small bar (by nashville standards) hidden parking. Staff was great. Music was too!
Doors open at 0830 almost an hour later and theyre finally letting people in
Intimate and welcoming with fantastic sound and cold brews. A true Nashville treasure.
Big things come in small packages. Great sound for those intimate shows.
Tiny, but in a good way. Good bar. Great for getting close to the artist and feeling thw music.
Classic Nashville venue for local up and coming bands. Cozy dive spot.
Great venue
Really enjoyed the venue and the music. Will return for sure!
Consistently great sound. Intimate space to see awesome local and national acts.
Cute spot with good sound and the basics for a solid night of live music.
Rocking venue for musicians and their followers in an intimate setting, with the same glory and grit as the music played there.
Show sounded great and drinks are a good price. Awesome spot
Best midsize venue in town!
Intimate space to see your favorite singer/songwriter. Like Greenwich Village clubs from the 60s
Great venue! They Book awesome acts
Another amazing live music venue in Nashville
Nice quaint setting. Full bar and great local bands.
Dark damp and dingey? Not at all! This place is a fantastic small venue!
Small, intimate venue. Full bar. Limited parking. Right below Grimeys, on the backside.
Lots of fun. Affordable drinks and great music
This place is awesome. I went on my bday and really enjoyed everything about the place.
One of my favorite live music venues in Nashville.
Legendary place for live music in Nashville. Stop in just about any night of the week.
The Basement is ALWAYS a great venue... As is Basement East!
One of my favorite places to see music in Nashville
Went to see Welles Band here. What a show. Bad ass venue
Everything was the Best! Thank you! 💙
Cool little place under a records shop. Will never forget seeing Donovan Woods here.
Intimate and very atmospheric, great sound and fantastic local music.
Intimate spot to hear local music. Small space with great sound.
One of the best places Ive been to watch live music
Drinks were super cheap. This place has an intimate setting
Had an awesome time! Really enjoyed new faces night !!
The best venue to see up and coming artists in Nashville.
Great performance venue with a good in house restaurant.
Is a must!!. Awesome Staff, Fantastic Music
Extremely intimate venue... great bands.
Classic Nashville spot, no price gouging for drinks
Love the venue perfect place to see a show
If this venue ever closes, Ill move away from Nashville.
Very small and that night was hot
Terrible place to go.
Such a cool place, it actually feels like youre in your parents basement
Great show and atmosphere, rude bartender.
Best venue in Nashville
Awesome dive bar with great music!
Absolutely disgusting and rude service from the guy working on the bar. Very disappointing.
I wish I lived in NASHVILLE so I could come more often.
If u love an intimate venue this is the place to be
I love this place for what it is...a great basement to listen to good music.
Nice staff and solid sound, great time!
Great venue for live music.
Great venue. Musica is life... :-)
Awesome, intimate places to see a show.
Poor customer service , bartenders throw away half-full can , in front of you without willing to replace it
Good venue from local and touring music
Great little venue
Always a pleasure hanging at The Basement!
