If you’re a baseball ⚾️ fan and want a cool experience this is the place for you. The restaurant is located right next to the oldest ballpark in South Dakota. The ballpark is from 1921, and the restaurant opened in 1972. Where can you get this view and have a juicy ribeye and catch a ballgame in the summertime!
First time eating here and it is by far, better than a majority of places to eat in Sioux falls. Literally everything about the experience was positive. If youve never been here I highly recommend you go.
Food was bland. We ordered the 16oz ribeye for $30.00 no sear on the steak, bland, fat not rendered down. Ordered medium and got a medium. There is no way this steak was worth 30 dollars. Hashbrowns no seasoning, bland. The chicken breast was very small , no seasoning, it was flattened down and looked like it was cooked in a press. Jumbo shrimp was good but only 3 pieces and about the size of a normal shrimp. The bag it came out of probably said jumbo. The chicken and shrimp plate looked like a kids meal and definitely not worth $25 dollars.
The service was outstanding, we walked in and there was plenty of seating which kinda made me wonder why…. Waiter took our order right away and drinks showed up in no time. Ordered prime rib and wifey had filet. Neither of us cared much for the steaks. The salad bar was good with options. Prime just had a taste I didnt care for and the filet was grilled to perfection with a big beef flavor but an after taste we didn’t care for.
Small town charm with great steaks at a good price. Steaks come with a free salad bar on Friday and Saturdays I recommend going then.
Great place to eat - delicious food!!! We like to eat in the bar atmosphere, casual, and friendly. Amazing salad bar on the weekends 💞
Good cold beer, pleasant server, real good salad, chewy undercooked steak. Prices were good. I want to give four stars, but the ribeye steak was disappointing. Good atmosphere for a local grill. I love supporting the local places, but I got a bad cut. Ill try it again when Im in the area to give a second chance.
There were 2 ribeyes ordered one rare one med rare both were well done. When they are only 3/8 thick it wont take long to get well done. But the color of steaks were blonde no good sear color at all. Very bland tasting. We were very disappointed on the food. I would not recommend the ribeye at all. The service was very good.
Love this place!Salad bar is always clean and fresh, and the soups are delicious!I have eaten here many time in the past 10 years and never once have I had a bad meal. The staff are so nice, esp the young men working. They are polite, attentive and quick to bring what you need.If they are super busy, you may wait a little longer, but you can see everyone running their tails off. When I see that, I would never even consider being upset that I may have to wait a bit longer for my meal.I recommend The Monarch any time I get the chance.
Food was great. Atmosphere was simple like one of the old steak houses when you were a kid in a small town. Definitely going back.
The steak was ok, not great, but ok. I had the hash browns for a side and I thought the portion was rather small (about twice the size of a deck of cards). My wife had the fries and that portion was much much larger. There are just so many places to dine in the Sioux Falls area that I feel there are better choices for the price. The service was great, the food was ok.
Worst $25 prime rib steak Ive ever had. Was not cooked well for medium and tasted awful. The rest of the food was good.
I couldnt have been more disappointed with my brothers and my New Years. We arrived at 2:30 and was asking about dining for the evening. We were told a Reservation wasnt necessary for just two people. We were told we could eat in the lounge or the dining room. Then the bartender was placing reserved signs on all the tables in the lounge so once again asked about a Reservation for the dining room again not necessary. So at 4:45 we went to the dining room and was told nobody was allowed because it had been reserved. Alot of people were very mad and left due to a huge miscommunication between the bar and dining room. 😡
Our steaks were great and it was so nice to have a self-serve salad bar again! Everything on the salad bar was fresh and delicious. Service was good. Tables are spaced apart enough that we didnt feel too crowded. The Monarch feels like a hidden gem, and it is very quick to get to from Sioux Falls. In addition to the dining room, you can sit and eat on the bar side. The bar side has a casino area and also has karaoke sometimes on Saturdays.
Best steaks around. Wonderful awesome people. Nice place to unwind.
Best Ribeye Ive ever had. Kind of a long wait to get the steak but decent salad bar and bread for the wait. Partner had a regular steak and it was alright. Not the best but decent. The Ribeye though was first-rate.
The service and food were spot- on! The Halloween decor was fun. We liked the salad bar and the main entrees. Plenty of room between tables gave a relaxed feel.
We got seated right away, they brought our water and menus right away. Then we sat there for 20 minutes before they even came and took our drink order ( mind you they werent that busy for a Saturday night), 2 other tables had come in they got served before we even got noticed again. Then the waitress finally came over, no apology for making us wait. At this point we were not happy campersIt took another 20 to 25 minutes to get our foodThe only good thing about the whole evening was the food was good as it usually is
I love this hometown steakhouse, its my favorite and Ive been to many. Their steaks are outstanding quality for the price. The beef barley soup is absolutely to die for, as are many of their other soups. Their salad bar has everything youd want on it. This place is always consistent. The wait staff are experienced and do a great job.For the $$ this is a great value.
Small town steakhouse with small town atmosphere but big city taste. Salad bar might be small but has everything you need and the best garlic toast ever. The soups are amazing - homemade wouldnt taste any better. Never had a bad meal there.
Great salad bar, amazing steaks, scratch made soups daily and a fun bar. This is one of the few remaining small town steakhouses left and you should go there because is a great dining experience.
Where do I start. The service was terrible. Wait staff was absolutely rude. Two of us ordered medium steaks two ordered medium rare. The medium rare was more cooked than the medium steaks. We are talking a plate full of blood. To top it all off? Every request made to the “server” was met with an eye roll and a scuff, and never once did he stop by to ask how the food was, for us to tell him it was undercooked.
Our 1st time here. We both ordered rib eye steaks. They were amazing, great flavor and juicy. Price was comparable to most places. Got our orders quickly. Will be back!
Kind of sketchy looking, but really good food. Great service. My husband had a steak and baked potato that were mouth watering. I had chicken and linguini that was very good. Really excellent apple pie for dessert. Service was very good.
Food is excellent. They serve prome rib on Friday and Saturday thats delicious. Their salad bar is really wonderful. All homemade salads and two soups. Price is reasonable. The owner, Ann and her staff provide top notch service.
I will dream about this meal. My boyfriend and I visited aspen this past week and, as most people do on vacation, we ate out every night. Monarch was by far our favorite meal and experience of the trip. We were late in calling for a reservation, but luckily they were able to accommodate us and we sat within seconds of arriving. Our waiter, Teddy, recommended - almost insisted the “table side ceasar salad” which was absolutely incredible and has officially become the only ceasar salad I can ever eat from now on. (Joking but not). We split the porterhouse steak which was perfect and came with two sides which were equally delicious. As impressive as the food was, our waiter Teddy made our experience even that much more entertaining and enjoyable. His service was impeccable. He made us feel important and cared about while dining, and also managed to keepus laughing all the while. Each time he visited our table, he would either tell us about a trail on a mountain we should ski the next day, or he would crack a few jokes. We had such a great night. Thanks Teddy and Monarch Aspen!!!
The steak was great the and staff was very friendly. Food was served quickly. Highly recommend it.
I wanted to go somewhere for a steak with my brother and his girlfriend and didnt want to go to a chain restaurant. I looked up steak houses near our hotel and found the Monarch. We had supper there . Tom and Kent took care of us and we had a great meal. It is in a small town of 200 and we were so glad we came here to eat....Thanks for a great experience...
The salad bar was clean, crisp, fresh and homemade. The soups were both flavorful. The entrees run in the mid $20/range. We had the ribeye. There was around 25% waste. The service was good. Very attentive with keeping our waters filled. For a steak house we expected the dining room to be a little less bright, maybe some candles on the table to add a little aviance, as well as linen napkins & not placemats. They kept a very tidy dining room. Wiping every salt and pepper shaker with every table reset.
Service was ok for only 2 staff in the dining room on a Saturday night. I had the prime rib which was ok, the exterior was not crusted which I like and is how it has always been served. Huge portion of fat in my piece.
Went for my husbands company Christmas party. I ordered the petite sirloin and the hubby had the prime rib. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted absolutely amazing 💯!
AMAZING Ribeye. Friendly fast service. Clean and inviting. One of the best steaks ive had in a very long time. Full of flavor and super tender. Highly recommend if in he area. Id drive 30 min to eat there again!!
Im one of the chefs at Safari Bar & Grill down the road from this place and I wanted to compare the quality of flavor and price. Bottom line, go here for some decent yet cheaper priced food and Safari for higher quality but costly grub.
We had a great evening as we gathered with family for a birthday supper. Kent was our server in the lounge and made sure we had everything we needed. Robin the bartender made sure our drinks were full and just what we wanted. We will be back more in the future.
The bartenders are beautiful and older and expirienced!! They helped me find my drink and my shot. I had no idea what was good karaoke with Darin was great
Wonderful place to eat at...casual but very upscale salad bar and prime rib dinner was one l wont forget. Will eat here again as soon as lm d back in Hartford SD 😋
The steaks and baked potatoes were very good and hot. The service was fast. Our waiter was great.
Our first time here since moving to the Renner area, we will definitely be back. The food was delicious from the salad bar to steaks and seafood !!! Great place!!
Best place to get a steak in the area. Service was amazing!!! I love the small town atmosphere!! Will be going back for sure!
This is a small town place with a small community feel to it! I had the prime and I was not disappointed. Very tender and juicy.
Great and fast service. Food was amazing. Salads and soup were definitely home made Will definitely be going back.
Way too expensive for the average wage working personFood was good, salad bar was lacking.
Ate in the lounge. First of the Friday night rush (5:30ish). I dont know; I guess I was in a good mood, but this is small town South Dakota dining at its finest. French Onion soup for starters was delightful and learned on my first bite that the Roqueford and all their dressings are homemade. I havent had bleu cheese like that for some time. Both our steaks were done to our liking, and at some point Im sure I mumbled that it was the best NY strip Id had in some time.Bread loaf fine if not forgetable. Video lottery was cold. Drive to Renner was fun.
The homemade potato and macaroni salads are just like Mom used to make. Steaks are tasty and priced reasonably. The Lounge is connected to the eating area of the Steakhouse.
Great salad bar and Best steak around! Service was superb, we are definitely coming back!
Horrible service! Waited over an hour. 3 tables seated after us were served and finished eating before we left without eating ☹️
Very good food and service was nicely done! The only thing I did not like is the dining room has no windows to see outside?
The cook out did the expensive restaurants by far & the cost was extremely reasonable!
Always GREAT steaks & the salad bar is PHENOMENAL!! The local baseball & antique car decor is interesting.
Always awesome food. Best Salad bar because its all fresh made. The soups always rock!!
First time going.....will NEVER go back!!!!! 45 minutes to get one appetizer,. 1 1/2 hours and still NO dinner!! It was after 7pm when we arrived.....we left.
Food, service, and prices were great. Not a fancy place but we had a great time getting to know some business colleagues better.
Great small town steakhouse! T-bone was very tender and flavorful. The Salad Bar, although small, was delicious.
Waited 3 hours for the worst Prime Rib I’ve ever had in my life. Will never go there again.
Awesome food! Everything is homemade! I had the prime rib and it was fantastic!
Service was great! Food was even better. Steak was the best we ever had.
This place is a gem! Great food and even better people. The Owner is a wonderful lady and I miss seeing her❤
Best steak around. I went with the petite, it melted in my mouth. Next time Ill have to go with a bigger steak.
Great food, great people. Small town attitude, all are welcome there. I will be returning! Thanks everyone!
Nice place. Had prime rib. Very tender. Good service. Overall good experience.
Nice country American atmosphere. I have nasty food allergies, I warned them about it, and there were no problems. I will likely come again.
Outstanding service and excellent food. You cant beat the price anywhere for the quality and friendly service!
Very disappointed! Took an hour and half before we got our food and most of it was burned and so crusty we couldnt eat it.
I had the ribeye. It was cooked to perfection. Service was very good and all staff was very friendly.
Good food, wonderful server but sat down and my arm soaked up the spilled beer leftover on table
The Monarch Steak House is our favorite restaurant Ann and the staff always take good care of all the customers and the food is always great
THE slowest service in the Sioux Falls metro area. We waited for over an hour for our meals. We ended up walking out of the restaurant.
The steaks were really tender and and juicy. Service is great and fast.
Ilene and Kent were wonderful! We plan on making special trips down that way just to see them!
2 sides to this place. A restaurant and a bar. Both sides are great. Great food, simple but good salad bar, and great service.
