Saumaj Health Spa at the George Washington Hotel

I had very high expectations for this place since I was able to see the location photos on Google maps. When I got here the reality was a little different. The space is beautiful but does need some small renovations in the ceilings and pillars as they are pilling off. Overall the place is clean and looks like they have been maintaining but it can definitely feel a little better. I did not get a massage this time since they were booked out.

My therapeutic massage with Brenda was THE BEST I have ever had - she knew where my pain points were without me saying anything (we discussed the massage ahead of time, but I didn’t mention allll of my concerns, but she just knew!). I will 100% be back and already gifted my fiancé his first massage ever with Brenda. Enjoying the pool and spa post massage was the cherry on top of this experience.

Absolutely fantastic is the best way to describe this place. My wife and I were able to book a couples massage just a few weeks out rather than months, and the experience was phenomenal. Its a small gemstone in the lower level of a beautiful hotel. Brenda was my massage therapist, and Angie was my wifes. Simply perfect. Highly recommend! Access to the indoor pool and hot tub is icing on the cake.

My husband and I came here for the first time today for a 90 minute massage. We had Angie and Brenda for our massage therapists. They were AMAZING! Best massages weve had yet. So thourough and relaxing all around. Thanks so much for a great day and experience!

Pleasant staff, overall mediocre experience.The pros: the massages that both my husband and I had were perfectly fine. Not outstanding, but quite good. My therapist was particularly skilled and would recommend her. The aromatherapy used was great, the products seemed high end.The cons: this is definitely not what I would consider a spa. There is a massage room off the walkway to the work out room and the pool. During our couples massage, I heard toilets flushing from the adjacent bathroom twice. One of our therapists seemed to have some technical difficulties with her phone and actually checked it 4 times (yes, 4 separate times). Pass on the romance package, it’s a gift bag with cheap trinkets (see picture). We added this on assuming it was champagne/wine and berries/fruit as it is at most other high end spas, but it was definitely not. The room was cold and the table warmer was not very warm.My husband and I will always visit a spa any time we travel and otherwise get massages at least monthly in our home town, so I would say that we’ve experienced our share of different spas and clinics. As I said, the staff is very friendly, and I think they are doing the best they can in the space they have, however I would definitely not consider this a spa. Rather, this seems to be massage and aesthetician services available in the basement of a very nice hotel. The massage therapists are certainly experienced and give good massages, however the environment needs some serious work to be considered high end. Perhaps consider in-room services in the future.

I went here recently for some treatments. It is a small boutique location, found in the lower level. The massage was very relaxing. I also enjoyed using the pool in between treatments. This is part of the GW hotel, so to access to the pool requires a key fob entry, which the staff used to let me in. I also had a body wrap treatment. This is a good location. The only thing I would say is that the waiting/lobby area for the spa is quite small. Conversations, even quite ones, can be heard from the treatment rooms, or vice versa.

Highly recommend massage therapy with Angie enough. I’ve had countless massages over the years, and she gave one of the best massages I’ve ever had. I’m currently suffering from pelvic dysfunction and her work on my hip/ thigh areas helped with my pain immensely.

I love this hotel. The roman bath and hot tub is beautiful. I love the massages here as well.

Met for a girlfriend’s lunch on a weekday afternoon and the food, service and vibe could not have been better. Staff was attentive and helpful without making us feel rushed.I had the curry shrimp with grits and mac and cheese and ate it all, though sides needed pepper.Will definitely return to sample more of the Meat + 2/3 meals and the salad bowls, which looked amazing at the tables close by.

What a joy I had at Sumaj Health Spa. I brought a dear friend visiting from New York City, and we both found the massage so centering and deeply restorative, as well as the soak in the hot tub and dip in the Greco-Roman pool! Can’t wait to go back!

My husband and I were in the area for a wedding this past weekend and decided to get a couples massage at this spa before the ceremony. I originally reached out via email to inquire about pricing and availability - the amazing customer service started there! The responses were fast and everyone we worked with was extremely friendly. Our massages were great and it was clear our massage therapists had a lot of experience. We were also able to take a dip in the hot tub and pool afterwards. The facility was very clean and we were fortunate enough to have the entire place to ourselves! Something to note to my fellow spa lovers: this is not your traditional spa with a steam room/sauna and locker rooms. Its very much set up like a small massage envy with a pool and hot tub area thats shared with all hotel guests.

Wow! Incredible therapeutic massage by Brenda. This lady was about 70 and slender, but so strong and knowledgeable. She knew exactly what was irritating my hip and groin and used her nearly 40 years of wisdom to soothe my aches and pains and make our holiday so much more enjoyable. Ive had many a massage - looking forward to our next visit to Winchester and seeing this awesome lady again!

I’ve been multiple times now and don’t think I can ever go to another massage place again. They are so knowledgeable and its very evident in their massage techniques. They make you feel very comfortable yet are professional. In addition, you have access to the hotels pool and hot tub which is a great bonus. This is the place to go!

Great Spa. Felt safe and comfortable during COVID-19 times. Kelly was my therapist and she was amazing. She is very knowledgeable about the muscles in the body and how they react to massage. I feel so much better!!!

I just had the most wonderful massage by Kelly Davall. Spa is relaxing and clean. Kelly was friendly and made my experience here fabulous! Also, I was able to get an appointment right away. Highly recommend!

Went here with a gift certificate I had gotten a while back. Excellent service at the front desk and Brenda did a great job and was very knowledgeable. I told her where my issues were and was very good at working to resolve back issues I had been dealing with.

The experience level of the massage therapists was the real take away from our appointment. This isnt just a body rub with some lotion; they are tailoring your massage based on your needs and what they can feel in your muscles and joints.

Couples massage 💆‍♂️ 💆‍♀️ was fantastic! Will go back!

The massages are well worth their price and the staff is super friendly and accommodating and make you want to come back soon.
